Charlie Rangel vs. Mississippi

Recommended Posts

You might not of heard of this, but then again, Rangel is a Democrat, so there will be no rushing to judgment nor wide coverage. ;)

"JACKSON, Miss. - A Democratic congressman from New York says he wasn't trying to insult Mississippi in published remarks Thursday, but a Republican colleague from Mississippi says Rep. Charles Rangel should apologize to the state.

Rangel, D-N.Y., was quoted in a Thursday article in The New York Times, saying: "Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" ."

Actually this story has been covered by CNN, if that counts, and I also saw it in the local newspaper. It isn't a big deal, because the elections are over, nobody outside of a few Mississipians cares...but don't pretend, because there is no outrage, that it hasn't been reported. News is like everything else. If people don't care about a story, it dies pretty quickly. Why not make a big deal that the week that the president's evangalist buddy was exposed for his extramarital gay affair, the biggest story on FOX (where more Americans get their news than anywhere else) the lead story, night after night, was "John Kerry hates our troops"!

I know, the media has this huge liberal agenda...don't you guys ever get tired of trying to dig things up to prove your tired points?

As president Bush admitted the day after the election, politicians say whatever they need to say, to get the election results they want. Rangel is no different. Just as Karl Rove concetrated his efforts in the last few elections, on the far right lunatic fringe of the Republican party (and won), the Democrats concentrated their campaign efforts on traditional strongholds that they had lost (ie: not the South), so they could retake the house and senate...Mississippi apparently wasn't one of the states Democrats were worried about winning.

As far as Wacka's claim, what is racist about what Rangal said? He just said that the state of Mississippi sucked! Nothing "racialist" about it. He didn't use a deragatory term to refer to someone.

So by my count there are 3-4 of you who would gladly uproot and live in Mississippi?

And of course NONE of you have ever made statements like "who'd wanna live there", "who'd wanna ____her", etc.

I don't recall you all being up in arms when GOP ads were "smearing" people as latte-drinking Volvo-driving yuppies.

If this "news" is all you've got (that and a sucky football team) how pitiful indeed are your lives. :P

And if a Republican had mad a similar comment about Compton or The Castro, the left would be raising hell about racists or homophobes

i don't really care what he said about MS, i thought it was kinda funny myself. what gets me tho is the double standard when a member of one party puts their foot in their mouth vice when a member of the other party puts their foot in their mouth

I'd rather live in Mississippi than in 90% of NY's sh--hole 15th district.

How fitting that Rikers Island is part of Charlie's district.  <_<
