With Moulds and Evans soaking up coverage, Reed could be a monster.  I can't say for sure if he saw few passes his way because Bledsoe didn't see him, or he didn't get open.

That's the thing about watching it on the tube. One of these days I'm going to invent some kind of interactive doohickey where you can select which camera you want to see plays and replays from. Now that would be bad as stevestojan!

As far as Reed becoming a monster, the opportunity for that does exist, but he needs to be a more consistent receiver - free of the mental lapses Simon refers to above. I think that DB will look to him more often in the 3WR sets if he demonstrates some consistency from the slot. The question is can he?

Great post, Simon. The truth of the matter is there will always be those fans who B word and moan and cry because they're tired of the frustration. Count me in as one of them. But then there are the fans who B word and cry and moan because somehow they MUST have a winner right now and will never respect the one simple truth that the ONLY way you come to appreciate a winning team is to live with that team when it's losing.

We're changing who is playing guard and we're changing number 2 receivers and we're tweaking a bit here and changing a bit there, and now we got the injury bug and we're going to have to spend time dealing with that, as well

But I'm amazed how quick people are to ignore ANY attempt at progress for the sake of two things: the need to always blame someone for something, and the need to hear themselves talk regardless of what is spewing from their TomTV pieholes.

(Really appreciated the Willy Wonka reference.)

Sorry Simon, I wish I shared your thoughts onthe Bills. I just don't see it. I see them making the same mistakes game after game after game.......

I see a patriot team with less "star players" than the Bills outhustle, outperform and most importantly, outthink the Bills time after time after time.

I see a GM who makes poor draft choices, poor head coach choices (I am willing to give MM the benefit of the doubt). This team did NOT need another rookie head coach! We needed a coach who has experience. There are too many players on this team who will not be here when MM finally gets the experience he needs to coach a WINNING ballclub.

There are to many hotdogs, hotheads and just plain poor leaders on this team for a rookie coach to handle. I sure hope to hell we start winning again and I will gladly eat some crow. But at this point, I think we will be lucky to reach 8-8.

Let me say that I have been a Bills fan for over 30 years. I sat through some bad times (the 70's for example) and the great times. I will ALWAYS support this team win or lose. I just don't like being called a fairweather fan just because I think i see the team for what it really is, not a very good team :w00t:

But like every week, I will hope for the best, but expect the worst. I hope you don't see me as a fairweather fan. I love this team too much to be called that.

I had really really high hopes for the HDTV advent. With the widescreen and increased clarity, the NFL should have no problem showing the majority of the defensive backfield on any down. But noooooo, can't have anything quite that wonderful. Instead, we've got to see close-ups of Jake Delhomme's nosehairs :w00t:

I'm utterly shocked by how many people insist on comparing this team to last year's. They have nothing in common and after just 3 games the '04 Bills are already far superior to the '03 Bills in nearly every facet of the game, discipline being the lone exception I can think of.

But if you have to speak even when you have nothing to say, I guess it's just easier to make stuff up or parrot others who do the same.

We may not agree on what we're seeing but the fact that your opinions are your own and you present them reasonably and intelligently (not to mention the cool avatar:-) makes you all right in my book.

I have no problem with disagreement, it's often the basis of interesting discussion. I've just heard enough of the same pinheads repeatedly spewing the same simple-minded stupidity and I've yet to see you in that category, nor do I ever expect to.

P.S. I think that Mularkey has wisely surrounded himself with smart, experienced coaches (Wyche, April, McNally, Clements, etc) and as a result he will be ready to coach some winning ball a lot sooner than later. In fact, this Sunday wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Thanks for the kind words Simon. I wasn't sure if I was going to get slammed. I also agree, all the pinheads who complain about the same thing time after time.

I respect your opinion and I would never say I'm right and your wrong. I'm just a shmuck with an opinion :w00t:

I hope your right, I really do.

Hey it could be worse, we could be 49er fans ;)

nice post and a breath of positivity can do wonders for a fan. Fact is we wont go far with this o-line - no matter who is running the ball or throwing behind it. So I'll wait patiently for progress.

The mental errors though really are disturing.

It definately bites that the Boys have our No. 1 next year - it could be a top 5.

Can the OL perform better? Of course they can, but Travis did average 4.1 yds/carry last game. I think the OL has shown marked improvement each week.

The injury to Teague can't be overstated. To my eyes, he's the most improved player on the line, and his leadership as the "QB" of the line will be sorely missed I'm afraid.

Great thread.  It's so refreshing to read comments without name calling. I may not agree with all your opinions but thanks for showing maturity and some good manners.

Oh, the girls want to tell all us macho men what football is all about-in a sensitive manner. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Good read Simon. The big picture perspective you give is much appreciated here and you probably already know that I am in agreement with most of your thoughts you listed on the individual players such as Reed and Wire, Teague, Bledsoe and others. Regarding Reed specifically, it's really been tough to witness his early season production for 2 years running now. Every year I go to camp and watch him snag everything within 5 feet from all angles and I believe he is going to step forward, but you're right he just seems to have this mental hurdle that doesn't even need to be there. I can't figure out if he reads too much press, is just nervous in the fishbowl that is the NFL, or what... Aiken's time draws near and I believe he is ready for the challenge. Evans has shown enough progress even at this stage to warrant that he reman in at #2. He gets more separation than Price did already, and I think he's a more disciplined player as well. Henry really needs to begin to take his overall role on the team more seriously and get his arse in the filmroom more often. He is such a hardnosed, bruising , present runner that it's a shame he can't also channell his intensity toward his assignments.

Honestly it's nice to just hang out in this thread and get away for a while from the damage control mode that I seem put myself into time after time around here with some of the more extreme absurdities . :w00t:
