Kiper's latest 4 Round Mock

Recommended Posts

The Bold article below is Mel Kiper's latest 4 round mock draft that he did on April 12th. I like some of the picks he made for the Bills, but I thought I would change a few things, but only change players that Kiper has being picked after we pick. Here is my mock:

1st round (8): DT Brodrick Bunkley (Kiper has him going 8th to us)

2nd round (42): OT Marcus McNeill (Kiper has him going 49th to Dallas)

3rd round (70): OG Charles Spencer (Kiper has him going 78th to Cleveland)

3rd round (73): S Darnell Bing (Kiper has him going 89th to Carolina)

4th round (105): DT John McCargo (Kiper has him going 123rd to Cincinati)

If this happened I would die in happiness!!!!!

With the NFL draft two weeks away, the one hot spot in the first round remains with the New Orleans Saints and second overall pick. While I still have North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams going to New Orleans, the outlook of the first round could change significantly if the Saints trade the pick.

My first-round projections remain nearly the same, with the one newcomer being NC State defensive end Manny Lawson. Overshadowed by Williams at NC State, Lawson had a very good senior season then performed exceptionally well at the NFL scouting combine. Right now I am projecting the Jets will use their second first-round pick on Lawson, where he will be used as a pass-rushing defensive end/outside linebacker.

New this week are my projections for the second, third and fourth rounds. You will be surprised to see some players initially projected as first-round picks have slipped to the second round in recent weeks.

Bunkley is a freak of nature and would be perfect for our team.  Ngata would just clog up space and do exactly what S. Adams did.  I would personally be thrilled if we got Bunkley.

Sam Adams and Ngata are not the same type of player. Ngata is more like Pat Williams, who is very good against the run.

Just say no to Bunkley. How many years did he contribute at FSU? How many years did he show he was worthy of such a high pick?

One. This year.

Before that, he barely made it into the rotation, and even when he did...he flopped. Then this offseason, he suddenly surges into the Top 10?

Uh-uh.

This guy has workout warrior written all over him. Big with the attributes but showed nothing on the field until last season. If the Bills draft Bunkley, then the Draft is off to a terrible start since they once again bought into the hype of yet another flop.

Give me a guy like Huff or Justice, guys who have demonstrated their skills for years at the college level AND have the potential to translate that game into the NFL. To me, Bunkley is just the second coming of Andre Wadsworth...big with the measureables, low on the football consistency.

i can understand where your comin from i really can and yes bunkley for the most part only was a stud for one year at the college level but there are many reasons for that. He first of all in his first 2 years didn't play just because he was at FSU which has a butt load of talent. His third year he was apart of a rotation. If you watch FSU games you'll notice FSU rotates a ton of players around and only leave in one DT most of the game. Bunkley wasn't that DT till his senior year. The fact you even mentioned Wadsworth shows how unknowledgable you are with FSU because Wadsworth despite busting in the NFL was a two time All American which proves that it doesn't matter how well you play at the college level the NFL is a different ball game. I'm not gonna assume too much but I assume you want Ngata. Well if you look Ngata really was only a stud for one year as well this year. Plus Ngata was at Oregon which usually doesn't have the talent that FSU has year in and year out. I guess you need to tell the Bengals what a bad decision they made taking Carson Palmer # 1 after only having one good year in college. If you want to compare stats Bunkley absolutely dominates Ngata in every stat from this past year. Frankly i'm a Bills fan and an FSU fan so i have bias but no matter who Buffalo picks I have to live with it and will learn to accept the pick so whether its Bunkley, Ngata or someone else then i'll live with it, I just wanted you to know that Bunkley was no workout warrior.

Bunkley isn't just a workout warrior, the guy had 9 and a half sacks at FSU. That is against some of the best competition in the nation. As far as McCargo dropping into the 4th, I couldn't believe Kiper would say this. I'de be happy if we grabbed him in the 2nd.

The best five non-QBs are Bush, Ferguson, Williams, Hawk, and Davis. If those guys are all off the board when the Bills pick, they should either trade down, or draft a QB themselves. No sense in taking a Ngata or a Bunkley at #8 when neither player deserves to go that high.

Here is the problem though, you're asking me to ignore the fact that Bunkley didnt produce until last season, that he was...essentially...a glorified back-up at FSU because he couldnt crack the top talent there.

You're asking me to ignore the injuries, the torn ACL and MCL in the same knee. You're asking me to ignore the lack of size and how he might struggle with the bigger OGs and Centers he'll see in the NFL.

Instead, I'm supposed to be happy that he had ONE good season, that just so happened to be his last?

I'm not advocating Ngata by the way either, and the Wadsworth comment was made in terms of the effort that he gave once he reached the NFL. I just dont see that much of a gap between Ngata, Bunkley and the rest of the DT field in this draft...so why waste a #8 overall pick on one when we could easily get a solid starter in the 2nd or possibly even 3rd round that are essentially equal talent? Ngata has his faults, but so does Bunkley...both of which scare me off either of them.

I understand as an FSU fan you're obligated to give the guy some love, but I just dont want to take a chance on someone with SO many question marks over his consistency and talent translation into the NFL.

I agree it was a good post. But my money is we are going to draft Ngata. All this anti-Ngata is a smokescreen to try to make sure he isn't gone by #8. We only have 2 DTs on the team (Anderson and Trippett) and neither one is the type to hold a line to allow the linebackers to run. Bunkley isn't that type either. We've got to get a starting DT in this draft. Is Ngata a risk - sure, but isn't everyone. But the upside is enormous. He's 345lbs, strong, and quick. And appears to be pretty mature. There are OTs available in Rounds 2 & 3.

My guess is the Bills are worried Ngata won't be there at #8 and we'll have a big hole in the d-line all season. Send a little signal that we're looking strongly at Bunkley or Huff to make everyone think we have some misgivings about Ngata. These guys can fly up the boards once a buzz starts (see Justice and even Bunkley) so the Bills are trying to squash any buzz. If a buzz starts on a quick, 345lb DT, he will move up.

Best post this week, although I have to add an "if we think that QB at #8 is better than the other players".

I think that trading down is going to make sense since Ngata, Justice, or Bunkley will be available after #8, so why not get some extra picks?

Perceived value controls whether we can trade down, so if another team perceives Cutler to be worth more than we do, trade down with that team (and hope our perception is right).

Our value projection controls who we pick at a given spot, so if we stay at #8 we should pick the best player available, which would be any of the five you listed, but if they are gone COULD be a QB.

But if we can't trade down, we have to decide if we think Cutler is a better football player than Bunkley or Ngata or Justice or Huff. I'm not sure it is 100% certain, and if it isn't clear I'd lean away from QB (faith in Losman) and to the lines. But only if I honestly think that player is better than Cutler (in value over replacement player, to borrow a term from baseball).

But I see our best move as picking one of your five if they slide, or trading down (not too far I hope) for a Cutler-happy team and still getting one of the players we target.

Odds are Bunkley,Huff,Ngata, Justice will all be gone by 14. Most likely to teams like the lions, rams, ravens, eagles, ps so why trade down? none of these guys will be available then and unless you're trading down really far it's too early for guys like davin joseph, nick mangold .so the trade down peope how far would you trade down and who would you pick?
