Where does Fletcher fit in

WRONG!!! For the trillionth time: the Bills lost to the Giants in SB 25 because our defense COULDN'T GET OFF THE FRICKEN FIELD!!! 19 points in 19 minutes of possession is amazing.

By the way, hasn't every losing team in every game in every sport's history lost because they didn't score enough points?

Of course you're right; it was a syllogism. What I should have wrote is that they didn't score enough points early enough in the game. This allowed the Giants to play ball control because they were never far enough behind in scoring to abandon it.

The Bills defense would have been helped enormously if the Bills offense had played a little ball control themselves, thereby affording them some rest, but that wasn't its character. The Bills defensive unit typically spent a lot of time on the field as the offense tended to score too fast. Rusty Jones was, indeed, the Bills secret weapon: without supreme conditioning they wouldn't have been able to finish games.

I think without space eaters in front of a middle linebacker it doesn't matter WHO the linebacker is....

Take a look at that guy with the Bears.....a perfect example.....Zach Thomas as well........

Marv said the plan is to have a Space Eater playing next to our new aquisition....

That sounds a lot like the days of Big Ted and Phat Pat....one was a quick guy the other was an anchor......

I just hope it's a dynamic, high profile, big money guy like when we acquired Big Ted and Phat Pat. Those signings showed a serious commitment to championship football and I'm so glad that the Bills wasted no time in doing so. If I recall, Washington was signed 31 minutes into free agency while Pat's signing took a lot longer, around 53 minutes.

guys

you don't need a super specialist at DT, you can have 300 pound guys to stop the run.

If that were true, the Bills could have kept Mike Williams, taken him off his diet, switched him to NT and told him to lay down in the general direction that the play seemed to be moving in.

The Bills are back to having a bend-but-don't-break defense. They're tooling up the offense to be a high-scoring, fast-paced affair—just like the old days

i wish they'd begin this tooling up of the offense pretty soon. not that i'm being impatient but Royal and Davis do not a K-gun make.

I'm a little nervous about the "smaller, quicker-penetrating defensive linemen".  Sounds nice in a passing game...but they are going to have to be extremely quick to get in there before the quarterback hands off to a amaller, even quicker penetrating running back.  Run stoppers who are near the line of scrimmage are a good thing.

We should be nervous. IMO, it's a front runners defense. Sure, the Bucs turned around their fortunes with this defense, but they had HOF players like Sapp/Brooks and a stacked DL on that defense, and STILL they got trampled by teams committed to the run. We actually just went thru this crap with GW just a few years back, and he ended up with tail between legs, having to bring in Sam Adams to shore up his horrendous run defense.
