Bills #1 Pick

Recommended Posts

Agreed...I was going to write that if Smith had Young's scrambling ability he would have lasted a lot longer in Cincy... ;)

Smith was a very good scrambler...problem was, unlike Young, nobody else attended the party.

He was routinely flattened before he got the chance to get the ball up for a pass. The '90's B'gals were not ordinary bad...they were spectacularly bad.

If we get a top 5 pick I just dont see any way that we DONT trade down.....and it is because of the reason you mentioned...the DT/DE/OL that we need will probably not deserve to be drafted that high........

We will probably trade down into the teens.....and get another 2nd pick

We are going to rebiuld this team through the draft

John, when we went from 14th to 21st in the first round (the year in which we got Clements), we acquired another 2nd round pick.

Imo, you are vastly under-rating the value of a top 5 pick. I think that if a team in the mid to high teens wanted to trade up THAT high, they would have to give up a 2nd, AND a #1 in the following season, or something of the sort.

The goal here is to win the Super Bowl. Nothing less. This team is easily two years away, and more probably three. So in approaching this draft, the GM should envision the team as it should be 2 - 3 years from now, and take whichever players would be able to make the most elite and important contributions to that future team. Also make whatever coaching or system changes you want to make, and make them now, and plug the holes in as you go.

So if you think you'd be better off with a 3-4 defense at some point in the future, switch to it today. Yeah, there will be a few more holes than if you'd stayed with the 4-3. At least in the short-term. But maybe some of those 4-3 players that seemed to plug holes weren't going to be able to help the team much three years from now anyway.

Or take the draft. If you have a choice between Mike Williams and Roy Williams, you take Roy, even though Mike's position is a bigger need.

The last thing this team should be doing is taking players who can make an immediate impact. You want to focus on positions--such as the offensive line--which generally take at least a year to learn. If the Bills go 4-12 this year, and do the same next year, they'd be in a position to truly benefit from the next two drafts. The 2007 or 2008 drafts would be the time to take DTs and other now players. Of course, if it's a choice between an elite DT and an average OL, you take the DT.

Let's see- 7000 posts, nearly all pissing in Bill's fans mouths in one way or another. Chuck Dickerson should be such a pessimistic.

No Bill's fan has stepped up to say they've ever seen him at a game, in a sports bar, etc.

Can you provide us with links to these posts that attack Bills' fans?
