Come on people...it's a freaking football game!  Can't we just watch the damn game and behave ourselves.  If you can't conduct yourself in a civilized manner, stay the !@#$ home.

128 ejected, 10 arrested at Bills-Jets game

10/18/2005

Apex Security and Contemporary Services Corp. security officers ejected 128 people from Sunday's Bills-Jets game at Ralph Wilson Stadium, including at least 25 fans who were turned away at the gates for being visibly intoxicated.

Security officers logged 10 arrests inside the stadium. Six of the 10 were charged with criminal trespass, either for refusing to leave the stadium or for getting kicked out and coming back inside. The other arrests were for criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct.

The ejection and arrest totals appeared to be the highest of the first four regular-season games, officials said.

Outside the stadium, Erie County sheriff's deputies made three arrests but were kept busy all afternoon and evening.

One person was charged with felony criminal mischief for allegedly slashing tires on two cars, while the others were charged with disorderly conduct and larceny.

Man, I remember as a kid seeing Jets fans getting ass beatings in the parking lot. Back in 81, some guys took dog sh-- and coated the inside/outside of a Jets tour bus. That is anywhere, Philly is the worst! Dont thay have a holding cell and a judge on duty for court?

Was at the Jets game Sunday, Sec. 142, scoreboard end zone, and watched a virtual parade of "fans" being escorted out of RWS by gentlemen in bright-colored jackets.

Asked an Erie County sheriff later why all the commotion...he stated that because of the Jets, and their legions, and the 4:15 start, they were prepared for all the high-jinks.

Maybe I’m getting old, but I can’t remember a game with soooo many a-holes in attendance, wearing both Jets and Bills colors…Jets fans were obnoxious as ever, but it seemed like a lot of Bills fans were taking the bait. After the game, Jets fans were still talking smack, you know, about losing four Super Bowls.

Hate to imagine their “glee” if they pulled out a win.

My daughter is six, and would love to go to a football game.  It's not going to happen.  Between what goes on in the parking lots (puking, pissing, cursing, taunting) and the BS she would see and hear inside the stadium, she is going to have to wait quite a while before she gets to see a game live.

My son is five and keeps asking me when we are going to a Bills game. I told him not for a longggggg time. 10 or so years and then we can do it, until then I don't want grown men showing him that it's OK to act like complete morons in public just because they paid $50.00 for a ticket and love the Bills.

We go to our local high school football games where it gets rowdy but not out of control, people act like fans not retards, he loves the atmosphere there. Why can't people be this way at professional games?

The trouble is...I live around NYC, so I would be taking her to a Jets game. My father-in-law has his seasons six rows from the field in the east endzone. Rough crowd...rough crowd.

That is tough. A tough place to sit for a kiddo. Hell, go to a winter game & use the excuse she may be cold to JK club seats. Just a thought.

Maybe you're not old enough. The first years I had my seasons ('90=>) we were in the non-tunnel endzone and there were fights EVERY game. Easily 75%+ of the fans were drunk but fewer were obnoxious. Security used to use dogs to keep people off the field. There were few that were stupid enough to bring a pre-teen to a game.

People also knew enough to keep their mouth's shut or suffer the consequenses because there weren't legions of cops around to bail them out of a deserved butt-kicking. Conversely the surrounding crowd would let it be known that cheap shots on innocents would not be tolerated. More important, the fans were LOUD EVERY time the defense was on the field and alot quieter when the O was in the countdown.

They were different times and will never return. For better or worse, The PC NFL will keep pecking away at the game until it becomes sterile and "family friendly".

Let me see if I get what you're saying:

Maybe you're not old enough I wish!  :(

The first years I had my seasons ('90=>) we were in the non-tunnel endzone and there were fights EVERY game.  Easily 75%+ of the fans were drunk but fewer were obnoxious.  Security used to use dogs to keep people off the field.  Sounds reasonable. There were few that were stupid enough to bring a pre-teen to a game.

People also knew enough to keep their mouth's shut or suffer the consequenses because there weren't legions of cops around to bail them out of a deserved butt-kicking.  So it was the inmates running the asylum? Kinda sounds Lord of the Flys-ish.

Conversely the surrounding crowd would let it be known that cheap shots on innocents would not be tolerated.  Also sounds like a good thing.

More important, the fans were LOUD EVERY time the defense was on the field and alot quieter when the O was in the countdown.  There was no lack of noise last Sunday...when the Jets were on their 10 yard line and Fat Sam nailed Vinny, it was plenty loud.

They were different times and will never return.  For better or worse, The PC NFL will keep pecking away at the game until it becomes sterile and "family friendly".  I dunno, I think the NFL is trying to appeal to the 18-24 year old crowd more than anyone as they will soon become the buying majority.  Check out the Coors Light ads and the music selection between plays at RWS.  The gameday experience is marginally "family friendly" right now, but I see little the Bills and the NFL in general are doing to make it so, other than installing a "family section" and cutting off beer after halftime.  (Opening stadium lots only four hours before game time and the "pat-downs" are a joke, IMHO)

Actually, if you guys want to take your kids, I suggest sitting in the Jim Kelly club level seats.  I usually sit there 2xs per season, elsewhere another time or two.  The difference is unbelieveable.  Maybe its because the tix are more expensive, or because noone is screaming !@#$ and egging everyone on, but its a great environment to take kids to a game.  You can still have a beer (unlike the no alcohol seats), if its too cold for the kiddos, they can go inside an warm up etc.  When I have a kid & start taking him to games, I'm going in for a split of JK club seasons.  Its really worth the price to give your kiddo a great game-day experience.

Great information - this appears to be the attractive alternative I was looking for.

notice the ages of 95% of the people getting tossed...probably 19-23...i know that I was a numskull back then...i have seats in section 316 and love them... 3rows from the ledge, and I would have no problem taking my son there when he is 5...just know that you are not taking him to the circus...

Thanks, I will absolutely look into that for next seasons.

I can second the recommendation for the family zone seats. I share a pair with a friend, he's able to bring his wife or kids to a few games and I'm able to bring my wife, 9 year old or 12 year old daughter to a game or two without having to explain away some idiots' behavior.

We decided to go for season tickets after getting tired of sitting next to a-holes for too many years. I enjoy tailgating and having a few beers as much as the next guy but I never understood the appeal of getting blind drunk, acting like an a$$clown and not even remembering the game. If you want to go to the game and drink a little more than you should: 1. make sure someone else is driving you home; 2. show a little respect for the people around you and 3. don't give Bills fans a bad name with dumb ass behavior. This isn't some old guy being pc - this is just common sense.

BTW - the family zone seasons are the next best buy after the rockpile seats - only $320 a seat for the season.

You do not get out of WNY often do you? Do you honestly believe that all NFL stadiums / areas attract the same type of population that RWS does? Having been to Qualcomm (SD), Lambeau field (GB), RCA dome (Indy), Soldier field (Chic), and ol Candlstick Park (SF) I can say with some degree of certainty that is not the case.

Interestingly enough, some venues even try to ATTRACT families...novel concept huh? Like I said, I had a good time at RWS but the atmosphere was more near pathetic then enjoyable due to the 'audience' you mirror.

I am not so sure, by the way, what I would spend on my family would be equalled by four 22-28 year old males in total sales (beer versus food, apparel, etc). But that is another argument for another day.

One last note, who will replace you as fans when you age out of the market? My son? Apparently not, because it would be stupid for me to get him engaged with the NFL because he is not welcome at games? That is very interesting logic.

Like I've said before, it's not right and I don't condone people being complete a-holes, but you have to know what to expect when you are going to a game. Especially one that has a later start and/or if you're sitting in some of the more "active" parts of the stadium. Like some people mentioned, there are the alcohol free family sections and the club level seats which I think are great options for those looking for a more tame experience. Bottom line is that kinda behavior has always went on and will continue to go on so either make appropriate arrangements, be prepared, or wait till the kiddies get a little older.

What is the attraction  for getting sh-- faced at the game? When I had season tickets (86-94) I would have one or two drinks before the game and maybe one after.  I went to see the game, not get drunk.  I sat at the goal line on the Bills side. There were no fights in season ticket territory.

How many of the people arrested or thrown out were UB students or from NYC? I remember in the 70s and 80s the Jets games had the most fighting because of all the Long Islanders in the stands.

Hey - I'm from LI and I'm not into that crap!!!

Seriously, it was piss poor planning on the part of the nfl to put a division matchup with the Jets as a 4pm start. That game is always a little more "spirited" than most of the others to begin with.

Let me see if I get what you're saying:

You've got a pretty good handle on it.  My opinion varies in a couple of areas.

More important, the fans were LOUD EVERY time the defense was on the field and alot quieter when the O was in the countdown.

There was no lack of noise last Sunday...when the Jets were on their 10 yard line and Fat Sam nailed Vinny, it was plenty loud.

For specific plays it was loud.  My beef is that as soon as we start to lag or worse get behind the crowd noise is barely audible.  Particularly pathetic during the falcons game. Better for the jets game than most but being ahead all game and the  propensity of jets fans to cheer ever time they gained two yards helped to keep the Bills fans somewhat more vocal. Also never saw a score where at least the "Shout" song refrain was not sung. Only about 50% around me (currently Sec 114 R1) even bother anymore (albeit they have had less opportunities as of late  :( ).

They were different times and will never return.  For better or worse, The PC NFL will keep pecking away at the game until it becomes sterile and "family friendly".

Beer is a money maker and since the $ = God to the NFL will never be eliminated totally.  [i believe(?) that the family section and halftime sales stop are Bills not NFL mandates.  As you can tell I don't like the trend but if that is what RW believes kudos to him for putting values over $'s]  The NFL is hypocritical in this area and most likely will always be so.

You are right, the music is pure NFL; visit another stadium (or sometimes you can hear on TV) and the same music selections are heard everywhere.  Pat-Downs not only give the appearance of being safety conscious but mostly protect beer sales by drastically cutting down of imported caches.  Less noticed is the banning of non PC signs.  This is the first year for that.  Plus the way Ron Mexico jersey sales were banned.  Already have banned flags, won't be long until signs are next.

Jets have a ton of games at 4pm due to the Giants always playing at 1...
