Hometown: Wetumpka, Alabama ANALYSIS Positives...Punishing run stopper who is very decisive in his movements...Stays low in pursuit, quickly shedding while knifing into the backfield...Produces a punishing hand jolt to jam tight ends and uses his leg drive to generate a strong charge that prevents blockers from sealing him off...Has great chase speed moving in-line and the openfield acceleration to make plays at the opposite end...Stays tight with the receivers on crossing patterns... Maintains position and diagnoses the plays sharply to break down in the open field...His aggressiveness and low pad level allows him to be very effective blitzing off the edge. Negatives...Has to do a better job of extending his arms working in tight quarters as he exposes his chest too much, allowing blockers to get their hands on his body to contain...Can get a little reckless in his pursuit, over-running the ball carriers as he lacks classic stop-&-go action... Looks stiff in the hips when he tries to get depth on his pass drops and appears very hesitant switching off in the zone...Susceptible to the quarter-back’s pumps and fakes...Short size causes problems defending in-line when taking on multiple blockers, as they tend to bounce him around quite a bit. Would love to have him but I'm not so sure that we are going to bring anybody in. 459722[/snapback] i don't want to see a winborn brought in for the following reasons: 1) we need to find out what we have in crowell......if he plays well he can be shifted over to the SLB spot next year, allowing posey to be cut and saving 1M in cap room in the process......we might have a find there but we need to see him play to evalute him 2) i believe the current cap room can be put to better use (i.e. contract extensions for clements, mcgee, and/or kelsey or putting it forward into next year) 3) winborn's contract is up after this year and, again, the cap dollars can be put to better use (i.e. improving both lines) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We play a 1 gap D scheme... DEs, DTs and LBs all responsible for a single offensive gap. When D stunts are introduced, you can shift one or two of the gap reponsibities to Safeties and/or CBs ( I think this is what Schobel was referring to when he mentions the confusion on the blitz packages). Gray has determined that our lack of a rushing D was based on our D players not following through on their assignments and allowing their instincts to take them away from where the ball was really going.
