jdubs
ok this is a long one. JAMIE WINBORN, Linebacker School: Vanderbilt University Commodores. Height: 5:11.5. Weight: 242. Hometown: Wetumpka, Alabama ANALYSIS Positives...Punishing run stopper who is very decisive in his movements...Stays low in pursuit, quickly shedding while knifing into the backfield...Produces a punishing hand jolt to jam tight ends and uses his leg drive to generate a strong charge that prevents blockers from sealing him off...Has great chase speed moving in-line and the openfield acceleration to make plays at the opposite end...Stays tight with the receivers on crossing patterns... Maintains position and diagnoses the plays sharply to break down in the open field...His aggressiveness and low pad level allows him to be very effective blitzing off the edge. Negatives...Has to do a better job of extending his arms working in tight quarters as he exposes his chest too much, allowing blockers to get their hands on his body to contain...Can get a little reckless in his pursuit, over-running the ball carriers as he lacks classic stop-&-go action... Looks stiff in the hips when he tries to get depth on his pass drops and appears very hesitant switching off in the zone...Susceptible to the quarter-back’s pumps and fakes...Short size causes problems defending in-line when taking on multiple blockers, as they tend to bounce him around quite a bit. CAREER NOTES Three-year starter who is regarded as one of the finest linebackers to ever play for the Commodores...Relentless in pursuit, Jamie is known for playing at a high intensity level...Started every game during his career, recording 377 tackles (236 solos), 16.5 quarterback sacks for minus 105 yards and 45 stops for losses of 198 yards. 2000 SEASON Started the final nine games at middle linebacker, finishing second on the team with 105 tackles (62 solos)...Had three sacks for minus 25 yards and seven stops for losses of 36 yards... Credited with five quarterback pressures...Caused two fumbles and deflected five passes. Miami (Oh.) and Alabama...Did not play...The Vanderbilt Department of Athletics and the NCAA discovered that Jamie and cornerback Jimmy Williams had received free financial management counseling from two alumni who have no prior association with the department, a violation of NCAA and team rules. Mississippi...In his first action for the season, he posted 13 tackles (8 solos) and stopped tailback Joe Gunn for a 5-yard loss…Was almost not allowed to play in this game after he was caught with an open container of alcohol in his car after being pulled over by police for having an expired registration. realtruelove
Mike Nolan on "coach cam" NFL Network said that he is trying to trade Winborn to accomodate Winborn's wishes to be a starter somewhere. Nolan says that Julian Peterson is his starter, with Winborn the back-up.
Dr. Fong
Quick question: Wasn't he part of the D that we walked all over last season? 459194 Yeah he played all 11 positions in that game. Pretty amazing when you think about it.
booya2
A friend of mine who knows a guy who spoke with his sister who was with her cousin reported that while leaving a ladies room at Buffalo International, she saw Jamie Winborn buying a Bills hat. And to make it even more exciting...he was with George Seifert. 459117 Haha, this made me think of more phat beats, check this ya'll: It's Winborn and Seifert, both games is tight! They stop the points, like they stop the Sprite! Game action like movie stunts! WORD!
In space no one can hear
KFFL Unfortunately, the specific teams are not mentioned. Here is the message if you don't want to go to the link: The Sacramento Bee reports San Francisco 49er head coach Mike Nolan said four teams are interested in LB Jamie Winborn, who is looking to be traded after losing his starting job to LB Andre Carter and being told not to show up at practices. Nolan declined to say what the 49ers want in return for Winborn, a second-round draft pick in 2001.

Kelly the Dog
Good Article, Thanks for the find. Would love to have him but I'm not so sure that we are going to bring anybody in. 459722 He probably doesn't want to come here because he is not guaranteed a starting spot. he would have to clearly outplay Crowell in practice while learning a whole new defense in the middle of the season and that may not happen. If this were training camp it may be a whole different story.
d_wag
Good Article, Thanks for the find. Would love to have him but I'm not so sure that we are going to bring anybody in. 459722 i don't want to see a winborn brought in for the following reasons: 1) we need to find out what we have in crowell......if he plays well he can be shifted over to the SLB spot next year, allowing posey to be cut and saving 1M in cap room in the process......we might have a find there but we need to see him play to evalute him 2) i believe the current cap room can be put to better use (i.e. contract extensions for clements, mcgee, and/or kelsey or putting it forward into next year) 3) winborn's contract is up after this year and, again, the cap dollars can be put to better use (i.e. improving both lines)
Guest BackInDaDay
Looks like we've got our LB... http://www.gonu.com/football/news/ezekiel092905.htm Wouldn't mind having a more experienced player, but it sounds as if Nolan's problem with Winborn is the same one Gray's having with our guys. We play a 1 gap D scheme... DEs, DTs and LBs all responsible for a single offensive gap. When D stunts are introduced, you can shift one or two of the gap reponsibities to Safeties and/or CBs ( I think this is what Schobel was referring to when he mentions the confusion on the blitz packages). Gray has determined that our lack of a rushing D was based on our D players not following through on their assignments and allowing their instincts to take them away from where the ball was really going. As good an athlete as Winborn may be, he doesn't sound like a good fit for what Coach Gray wants to do.
