If the Bills are going to change to a "throwback" permanently, I would love the new jerseys, but would prefer the white helmet, with the charging Buffalo on it, as opposed to the standing still Buffalo.  Is anyone else with me on this?

I'm with you. I still prefer the charging Buffalo. I'm not a huge fan of the throwbacks (the standing buffalo is LAME!), but if they wore those helmets...that would be SWEET! <_<

I really like the throwback jerseys but I don't want them to become our permanent jersey either. Now I do agree that they should be able to wear them more than 2 times a year, maybe more like 4. I think its cool having a "special" jersey that can be brought out for big games, national tv games, etc. I'm in the minority in that I like our current jerseys. Especially when they dont mix and match the pants and jerseys. The blue on blue look is especially badass imo. Most of all, I have a Milloy away jersey and a new McGahee replithentic home jersey that I still want to be "current"! .....(even though I will probably get a throwback sometime this season. Almost got one before the season, but saw the McGahee replithentic at the Galleria and loved the sewn on numbers and name)

Ralph is like the Susan Lucci of the NFL HoF ballot.

Except that I never wanted to have sex with Ralph.

The NFL "uniform nazis" have built the most succesful sports marketing franchise by making sure each franchise adheres to an established set of standards.  This is extremely basic marketing.  One of the reasons the NFL merchandise sales program is so succesful is because of the standards set and enforced by the NFL.  many of thier decisions may seem petty to us (fining someone for not wearing the right socks, only allowing two apperances of the "throwback" uniforms per season, etc) but their decision are based in pretty sound business principles.  It is much easier to enforce the standards if the franchising organization, in the case the NFL, doesn't allow any non standardized uniform items to appear.  let some people get by not adhering to standards, the next thing you know, none of the teams are folloing the standards.  This in turn weaknes the NFL's control over the copyrighted logos and merchandise.  That would mean more "non approved" merchandise, which in turn would have a negative impact on the revnues ditributed to the teams, which would have a negative impact on small market teams (like the Bills), etc, etc.  I like the "throwbacks", they bring back memories of being a kid again, and watching the Bills with my family.  having said that, I undertstand why the NFL makes the decisions regarding uniforms the way they do.

Good post. The NFL has been an outstanding business success story because the owners have always understood that the total was greater than the sum of the parts. Too bad Jerry, Danny and some of the others are about to destroy that.

The NFL only began to really get it's merchandising together in the past 4 years or so. Before then, the level of quality with the replica jerseys that each time sold was all over the place. Back in 2002, they swung a deal with Reebok to market ALL the replica and official uniforms for each team. That's also when they started putting that NFL patch at the base of the neck of each uniform. I remember reading this big article in USA Today that detailed all the changes with the NFL's new merchandising strategy - basically emulating how the NHL and MLB sell official merchandise.

I have a Phil Hanson jersey from the 90's and it's pretty low quality. By comparison, the Eric Moulds jersey I bought about 3 years ago is really nice.

Bucknell U does.

Wow...That makes two that call themselves the "Bison:"

Bucknell Bison

Howard does too:

Howard Bison

Yet... Howard seems to be blantantly infringing on the Buffalo Bills logo?

Can you do that... I thought the NFL controls things like that?

Maybe Howard gets away with the direct rip off because the name is on the ribbon?

WARNING NON-INTENDED HIJACK BELOW:

My son's Catholic elementary school calls themselves the "Falcons"... They use the Atlanta logo to a tee... The only difference is that the Falcon is pointed the other way.

Kinda of a bummer because then they would know when your kid is not wearing official school gym wear!:doh: My sister went to Villa... The nuns there would run there hand down the buttons to make sure that the girls were wearing "female" blue, button down Oxfords...:) ... Since boy's/men's shirts have the buttons on the other side.

Still a side note... Wondering why women's shirts have the buttons on the other side?

Because... Early on royality would have people change them... Easier for the servants.

Also easier for the guys... Less confusing... :(:(

Bucknell did, but no longer does .... stopped wearing them AFTER the 2001 season

They used to wear the same BILLS helmet that we wore from '76 - '81

BUCKNELL Helmets

Howard University does, but they're slightly different. Same logo, they added 'bisons' to it as 'ExiledInIllinois' mentioned,

and there's no stripes along the centre of the helmet.

yeah but look at bucknell's new bison logo. that is badass. if the bills had a logo like that it would be a bigger sell than the charging buffalo that we have now.
