Don't know why, but this popped into my head as I was in the middle of my morning constitutional.

To the tune of "When the Saints Come Marching In"

Call 644  9700...

You BASTARD. Every time I hear "When the Saints..." I think the same thing.

could you explain this to the younger crowd here?

I'm PRETTY SURE it's from the local feed of the MDA telethon. That was the number to call.

And if it's not...it doesn't matter, because I STILL hear it in my head when I hear "When the Saints Go Marching In."

Variety Club Telethon on Channel 7.  Longtime fixture back in the day.  I guess they don't do that anymore?

Maybe they do and I just don't watch. I used to see it because my grandparents would babysit my sister and myself for the weekend and that's what they would be watching. I still don;t remembr the music and #, but I do rememeber that they would read the name of the donors on the air and scroll them at the bottom of the screen, so we would always donate 10 bucks or so, so that we could "be on TV".

It was the Variety club telethon and always on channel 7, these were the days before cable and one really had limited number of channels and programming to choose from. Oh wait TV existed before DirectTV nah must have been a bad dream

The song went something like this "call 644 9700 call 644 9700 and when you call that magic number ....."

Here's a link to Variety Club, so I guess they're still doing it.

Variety Club Telethon

The rest of the song was a twist on "Oh Lord I want to be in that number," probably something about calling that number for the telethon. Now I'll probably spend the rest of the day trying to remember.

As I remember it (and this was several hundred years ago), they didn't do much more with the words than repeat the phone number and then say things like, "Won't you please call that number?" or (as someone else said) "Just dial that magic number."

Thank you. As I'm now in hour number TWO of hearing that song, at least I'll pretend I know the rest of the words.

OOOOOHHHHHHHHH..............................

........You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life

See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

Friday night and the lights are low

Looking out for the place to go

Where they play the right music, getting in the swing

You come in to look for a king

Anybody could be that guy

Night is young and the music’s high

With a bit of rock music, everything is fine

You’re in the mood for a dance

And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen

Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life

See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

You’re a teaser, you turn ’em on

Leave them burning and then you’re gone

Looking out for another, anyone will do

You’re in the mood for a dance

And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen

Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
