Guess whos the new chip leader? Fossilman has over a million in chips. A repeat would be the greatest poker feat ever! So much that poker is all luck! Lots other pros still around- Ivey is 7th. Matisow, Ledderer, Dutch Boyd, Sammy Farha, Paul Darden and many other pros still in it. There is 560 people left. I would love to see a Matisow/Raymer table. That would be great TV!

Local boy, in the top 20 in chips. The musician Tom Sartori. Crazy, but I'm rooting for him for sure.

Updates from yesterday-

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tournament...9&screen=result

Matisow is second with over $2million in chips. (I cant stand that POS!). Ivey is 5th with 2million himself. Fossilman slid to 31st with 766,000 in chips. Lederer, Dutch Boyd, Russ Hamilton, John Juanda all knocked out and in the money. Field is down to 58. Tom Sartori is 14th overall with 1,208,000 chips. Of course this is old news- what I am reporting is from the end of yesterday. I wouldnt be surprised if we were down to the final table tomorrow-

The Mouth Matusow is a pro I believe, not sure about anybody else.

So these "other players" "out-skilled" a bunch of pros, including all the previous champs? :D

Yup, pretty much so. People who don't understand the game seem to use the mindset of a 'pro' as if this was golf or baseball, where a regular guy would have no chance at all to beat established stars. Poker skills like risk assessment, reading opponents, etc. are not unique skills. Anyone can learn them over time. Anyone can not learn how to throw a 92 mph fastball or hit a 320 yard drive, you need to be born with that.

That is why poker pros win out over the long haul, not necessarily in one tournament.

To suggest there is no skill to card games because of the randomness of the cards is simply ignorant.

The lack of understanding about the skill of poker does not amaze me.

These "other guys" are all highly skilled players. This isn't a group of guys who get together every Friday night to play a game. These guys play thousands of hands per week. They have also spents hundreds or thousands of hours studying the game. Even an average poker player is now a skilled player.

A good comparison with sports would be the US Open in golf. Anyone can try to make the cut in the Open. Every year numerous amateurs do make the cut while many pros don't. Over the long haul the PGA pros would consistently beat these amateurs.

The WSOP is exactly the same way.

second hand in Lazar goes all in with AAs and Matisow calls with KK. The flop was King- heart-heart. One of Lazar Aces was a heart. Next two cards runner-runner hearts. Matisow lost 3.5 million

Mattisow is eliminated on a bad beat. Down to 8 players

Mike had a pair of 10s against AJ. The flop was 2 3 5. Mike went all in and induced a 3 million call. The turn was a 4 and the river was a 9. Bad beat
