Seems like that's the point youre trying to make? We have to hope for the good Offenses to not be good on their own, or not make the playoffs at all, otherwise there is no shot our Defense stops them.

I'm the biggest McDermott defensive playoff cynic there is. But the numbers say not playing mahomes, they're above average. If mahomes and burrow aren't in, well there is the winning ticket.

I guess I'm not understanding the point you were making in a thread about McDermott's coaching, and I even went back and followed the entire quote/comment track.

 

Sure, I'll take a SB victory in any way shape or form, even if we play cupcakes the whole way. No one cares post facto.

 

But if we're debating his ability to get there and how we feel about McD as a coach, it seemed like you illustrated that he'll only get there if/when the good QBs arent in the playoffs.

 

I'd agree that Lamar Jackson is the best QB McD has been capable of beating in the playoffs. Even though the defense left the Ravens top receiver open on that 2-point conversion and needed to rely on an out-of-character drop by Andrews to save the victory. Which was right after the Defense let the Ravens march 88 yards down the field on only 8 plays in only 1:56 to score a TD...

 

I think there's another discussion to be had on Lamar in general, but that's a whole other thread.

 

But yes, to your point, hopefully we dont have to play any top QBs and then we might have a chance at winning a SB. Not sure what that says about our D coach tho.

It says that me and you are cynical about McDermott beating mahomes/ burrow in the playoffs with his defensive acumen. But if he's not going anywhere, then there is a possible better path to the Superbowl if those two are not in the tournament.

 

Doesn't mean buffalo will definitely get there. But I think it's rational to say the odds increase significantly. Vegas agrees even seeing that buffalo is going on the road as a wildcard 

 

Of course Allen is the ultimate wildcard in that it might not matter if mahomes is in the tournament. If Allen goes alien mode, then it probably won't really matter what McDermott can and can't do. Which is why I'm never going to be cynical/ negative about a playoff ticket with Allen
