Copy pasting myself from another thread:

"I'm stealing this information from Joe Marino's all-22 analysis. Leading up to the game Joe said the Pats have weak coverage LBs, and that one of our priorities should have been to get them into their base personnel and throw the ball into it. In his all-22 analysis he revealed that we got them into base personnel on 14 plays. But we only passed on 2 of those plays. Both passes were 20 yard completions to Kincaid. The 12 runs averaged 2.8 YPC... That represents a massive missed opportunity. We got the looks we wanted but didn't take advantage on nearly enough of them because our identity is that we run out of heavy personnel and that's that. Stubbornness hurt the offense on Sunday night."

I'm starting to worry that Brady game plans for his players' strengths but he doesn't game plan for the opponent's weaknesses.

Revisiting this point this after I watched The Bills Squad last night because Joe Marino had a stat that just blew me away from Sunday night's game...

Now... This was what Marino said. I cannot speak to the validity and I have not confirmed anything... But...

He said the Bills got NE into Base Defense on 14 downs Sunday night...14...and they passed it 2 times...2 times out of those 14 downs!!!! And the worse part of it is they got 43 yards on those 2 passes!!!!

Take it for what you will... But I think what some of us have been saying all along about mixing in more passing vs stacked boxes, especially in the middle of the field, is the final key to this whole thing. Sometimes it feels like Brady and the Bills want to be the neighborhood bully and force a game of checkers out there when the kids want to play chess. It works when the kids in the neighborhood are too weak to stand up to you. But when a tougher kid shows up and forces us to play chess...It gets dicey... B-)

In a vacuum I understand blaming the offense more for this loss. But we have a defensive head coach with his hand picked DC, and we've spent the vast majority of our draft and FA resources on the defense over the past two offseasons. What is the point of all that if we can't even win one ugly defensive battle? If we're doomed to lose every single game against a decent opponent where Allen and the offense aren't at their best?

This has been my point all season and why I was furious Monday. AND when the head coach is supposed to be a defensive specialist it is magnified even more.

knowing this, and seeing the film of the last drive from the NE 27 where we chuck 3 dumb balls to WRs in no position to catch and make a play is maddening.  if we went jump w two TEs and had kinkaid run up the seem the whole middle of the d would follow him leaving the other TE wide open for a first with room to run, bang we are inside the 12 w a new set of downs.  we can walk that in over the 8 downs we'd have there, and milk the clock like a bell cow.

A big problem with our defense is that a number of guys we were counting on to play at the same level as last year have regressed. Bernard has regressed, Benford has regressed, Johnson has regressed, Rapp holy hell is he playing like ass, Glass Milano doing his usual, Williams looked like he took a step back,  Groot didn’t show up first 4 games (bone bruise, yeah ok), White is washed, Ed gets hurt yet again. As for positives, I’d say Bishop is coming along, Walker looks like he’s coming along, Bosa is playing well, Jones is playing well, and Shaq Thompson should start next to Bernard.

Doesn’t matter how many resources you pour into the D, if over half your starters aren’t available or are playing worse than last year, we’ve got a problem.

The only hope we have is that as guys heal and the PED guys come back, we slowly round into form towards the end of the season and look like a different defense than we do now.
