Back in the days of analog cable I remember my dad had one of those de-scrambler boxes so he could watch PPV boxing and HBO. Nobody really had any moral dilemmas about this, most people just thought "oh that's nifty". These streaming sites are just the modern day equivalent of the de-scrambler box.

The pearl clutching reminds me of those "YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR" PSAs they used to put before movies. For the record, I would 100% download a car instead of pay for one if it was a viable option.

I'm not going to shed any tears over mega corporations losing revenue that's basically a rounding error for them when it comes down to it. Better to steal from record profit making companies than your neighbors.

I haven't watched a football game on an illegal feed since 2020, but I did most weeks during the height of the pandemic because a lot of the places with the NFL Sunday ticket were closed down or too crowed to feel safe at.  The main reason I haven't since 2020 is because just about all the places I watched the feeds on got shut down. I think the league was a little more lenient in 2020 due to the circumstances. I would never pay an illegal site for their feed, mainly because of the risk of it being shut down, but I have no problem watching a free bootleg site.

I'm lucky because where I live we get a lot of Bills games on home TV & when we don't, I can go to OTB where I can get in for free wearing a Bills jersey (otherwise it would be a $1 or $2, depending on one's age-I'm old so it's $1 for me). There I can sit in a booth with a personal TV where I can listen to the sound, unlike most sports bars.

I used to watch a site that had just about every TV show from the premium cable networks as well as Canadian & UK networks.  It was great.  Then one day I went to watch a show & the place was shut down.

I don't know if I've ever been to that one.  I've been to a lot of OTBs in WNY through the years.  The one I used to go to most was the one on Tonawanda St in Riverside when I lived right over the Tonawanda town line on River Road in the early 1980s.  There was a laundromat across the street so I could do my laundry & bet at the same time. In the mid 70s I was always at the Dunkirk OTB.  After I graduated from Fredonia, I decided to stay in the area for another year, and I was working the night shift at Dunkirk Ice Cream & hanging out at OTB in the afternoon.  They laid me off in September & wanted me back for some shifts.  They couldn't get me at the house I was renting a room at, so they sent someone to OTB to tell me to report to work at midnight.

I ended up doing that this offseason but paid for a whole year. Watching through the IP Smarters app on my Roku. Total investment less than $150.

Be careful with whole year subs

I've used Superbox for about 3 years now. https://superboxglobal.com/superbox-channels-list/

It gets major network stations from all over the country, almost all the cable channels including HBO and the likes, tons of different sports channels, Canadian and Mexican channels and even more.  Well over 1000 channels.  Compact box that plugs into your TV and interfaces well.  It mirrors to your TV like it's  a cell phone.

Upfront cost of $350-400  or so and that is it.

I watch Bills games on the Buffalo channels, it has the ST channels but they usually black out sometime in the second half.

The broadcast is usually 30-90 seconds behind the actual broadcast and the game can cut out, necessitating restarting the app but way less trouble than a pirated broadcast.  The remote doesn't have great range either, hopefully they upgraded that.

Overall I am very satisfied with it because I am not a heavy TV watcher and beyond the sports, it is like having a full suite of cable channels that are free now.

It's not perfect, but I accept that given the total cost.  Non sports channels rarely have any problems and broadcasts in UHD.

That's the easy way to do it, but it's also quite expensive. If you get a streaming box (The Nvidia Shield 2019 pro is the gold standard) that should only set you cak $200 NIB. You can get far cheaper options like the firestick, or you can buy used. Then you just get your own IPTV software, I use OTTNavigator, and that handles all of your interface. The only other thing you need is an IPTV feed. You can try out free ones just to see how it works, but they don't work well for high demand content like sports because the servers are usually low bandwidth.

You can search around for IPTV subs via discord, and they'll cost you anywhere from $10-$15 a month. You pay them, you get a feed and login credentials which you plug into your IPTV app and you're done. I never sign up for more than 6 months, because you never know if the provider will go under, and I only watch live tv during football/hockey season anyway.

Basically, if you have a tiny bit of tech know-how you can save quite a bit of money and have more flexibility.

Thanks for the info, I may have paid more up front, but I pay nothing  per month.  I'm reasonably tech savvy but it's nice to have such a simple, one-time charge system.
