Yep, another shocker.

Online gambling has negatively impacted Vegas. I wonder why the big Vegas casino owners lobbied so hard against it.

Young people don't want to play slots like 80 year old hamsters with cigarette in hand and oxygen tank parked next to the machine.

Poor Gen Z. They're really missing out.

So demand dropped.

And prices skyrocketed.

That’s a fascinating observation that defies economics.

No. Prices skyrocketed, people started seeking out alternatives.

I have a niece who just went to Vegas with her boyfriend. Mid-20s. They were legitimately shocked by the prices for everything. Didn't enjoy the experience at all. Won't be going back anytime soon.

My take: Vegas casinos got greedy with the post-pandemic rush to get out and do things. That's now worn off. And going back to bargain-style vacations probably isn't an option since the unions have also cashed in, raising the baseline salary for everyone.

Gen Z has a lot of kids who are more lifestyle conservative. They don't want to waste money. We should applaud that!

We have a new hard rock casino nearby.  Went to dinner there and they had a Morton' like place which was ok but pricey.  Rooms were uber bucks and the place felt creepy.  Lots of people losing money and feeling it.  I'd pick another place for dinner next time.

Man what happened in 2020?

There is no easy fix to this - definitely not Democrats tax and spend policies.

That’s why Trump is reconfiguring the global economy and putting America first.

Yes, some demand will drop if costs rise.  Consumption will dip but prices will start to fall.

And if productivity increases..

If off shoring stops and manufacturing moves here….

If we stop illegals and H1B and deport millions…

If we cut the federal bureaucracy and work on the deficit…

The alternative is communism.  Which is what the Democrats are full blown now.

I guess I don't understand the thinking here.

This sounds like DEI by other means.

Aren't the wealthy "wealthy" because of certain attributes? High IQ (including a large genetic component), drive/perseverance, a future orientation (developing their human capital through education, etc, even if it means deferred gratification)?

Isn't the Republican Party all about recognizing that?

Let's apply your comment to, say, college admissions. Elite colleges have tended to have a lot of "legacy" admissions - children of their grads. If Yale has 30% legacy admissions, well, part of that is the Yale parent was likely really smart, and so the Yale son or daughter is too.

I know, let's make them diversify by accepting other kids with poorer academic credentials! Let's eliminate standardized testing. DEI for me but not for thee.

After all, Trump is not a billionaire because his father gifted him $250,000 when he was 21. He's a billionaire because he's a stable genius. Stability/intelligence. What, are we gonna tax that away to level the playing field?

You’re missing the forest for the trees.

Over 75 percent of the country can’t afford anything.

You clowns shut down the planet pumped 12 trillion into the economy and played dumb about the looming inflation that was going to cause.  Significantly so.

Unprecedented global response to the economy over the flu and again - you played dumb about what all the ramifications would be.

You cheered on the “33 million lost jobs” bc of Covid.  You harped on Trump stating Covid wouldn’t get here (I guess he should have just said we’re under attack bc lunatics in charge of the world fear me).

Then pretended the fallout from it all was bc Putin and worse, acted all obtuse over what was happening - all while going completely insane on wokism.

No easy fix to this.  But Trump is doing it.  Unprecedented attack on the economy - broke it - time to fix EVERYTHING.

So I don’t know what the hell you’re even talking about here regarding this data.  Seems like more deliberate obfuscation.

All you idiots had to do in 2020 was nothing.  Most likely bc logic says so, a Democrat probably wins in 2024.  Trump would have won in 2020 but with a divided Congress his whole 2nd term.

But nope.  And now you’re staring at a Vance/Rubio presidency in 2028 to 2032 and probably 2 more SCOTUS appointments.

Nothing like unbounded optimism. I am old enough to remember when Obama ushered in a new Democratic century.

Well, not true. But there is a troubling issue with income/wealth distribution in America. It far predates Trump (even Trump 1.0). What you guys would call "globalism" is really nothing more than "a free economy." Bernie would say it's a Winner Take All economy.

Tyler Cowen called it "Average is Over." A good read.

And who said we’re stopping global free trade?

Because $1.50 for every $100 ain't "free"?

Free trade means no taxes?  You guys and your changing definitions.

Sign me up for where that exists.

Is it Laissez Faire?  No.  That hasn’t existed since Hong Kong and 1880s America.

Coincidentally the greatest period of growth in American history.

I'm going with Roundy or Nedboi.

seeing it much more clearly now.  the anger about covid is economic and not about science or medicine.  what's 1 million deaths when gen z will be negatively impacted?  those refrigerated trailer truck morgues weren't real and even if they were, they were full of old people.

trump's immorality is spreading like the virus itself.

It's about a lot, actually. We'll be living with the learning loss of our kiddos for decades. We made some terrible decisions. What actually frustrates me more than anything is that data and information was actually hidden.

These idiots seem to think that trade routes are defended for free...

Those days are over...

A new global model is emerging...

Some people have no sense of the future...

Then again...

They voted for Biden and Harris...

Truly stupid people...

They loved the lock downs and vaccine mandates though...

And the trillions in new debt to finance it...

The next 18 months is going to be so much fun...

i million Americans died.  The only effort that would have significantly reduced that number was mandatory vaccination or at least better adherence.  Kids can catch up especially the bright ones.  They'll still be brilliant Stanford and MIT engineering etc grads out of the covid crop of kids

I don't mean to sound cruel or classist here. Really, I don't.

But this is true. COVID shutdowns and home schooling exposed those kids who aren't self-motivated, who don't have parents who value education, who were likely never to succeed on an academic track. It accelerated that natural division; it didn't create it. That's why I'm all for a system that provides second chances: GEDs, community college, etc., for those kids who couldn't stick to it when they were young but who have now found the necessary discipline.
