From what I read they had some dollars and years in mind and when the offers surpassed that they walked away. I'm starting to wonder whether Stearns is capable of running a big market team. I'm at a loss but losing confidence in Stearns more and more each day. I posed this question yesterday: what's the best move Stearns has made since he's been here, Iglesias? Torrens? (I don't give him credit for Soto, that was all Cohen imo)

He primarily played DH and second base last year and he's played one game at first base in his 12-year MLB career. That's...one. Game. I don't believe Polanco is the "replacement" at 1B. If he is, something went horribly awry or Stearns has no plan. I simply refuse to believe that's the case. Polanco will only be the main 1B if there are bigger offensive pieces added, IMO. So far it's been an underwhelming Hot Stove but it's still early. And Vientos at 1B doesn't give me any more of a "warm and fuzzy" than Polanco. 1

And I don't blame Stearns completely for players lost to free agency but wtf is the plan to go into next year with a stronger core than came up short this year? I'll reserve judgement but I'm struggling to come up with reasons to believe in Stearns. 1
