Donald Trump has upset that apple cart. For people who care about things like fiscal sanity, accountability and transparency, it is a welcome restoration

The Trump administration outshining its own stooges daily is the kind of tragic comedy you can’t make up.

Hmm. The state telling private enterprise to fix prices? Interesting.

Exactly. But what else would you expect when WEI hires are in charge, using a mix of psyops and mind games as their go-to strategies?

Amazon pulled back that "threat" (by which I mean "disclosing the truth"), but the point has been made.

I hope Amazon and more companies do this. The price impact of tariffs shouldn't be hidden.

Unless Trump course corrects soon, we'll be seeing this a lot.

Reading the tea leaves in Trump's morning cup:

- I see the White House trotted out ... PETER NAVARRO this morning. Ol' Pete is back. So that always spooks markets since he is, after all, Mr. Tariff.

- Prediction: Bessent will pop up somewhere this afternoon or after markets close with some kind of phony "it's all a negotiations tactic, and we're really close" statement. Markets up later today or in after-hours trading.

What fun. Trump has made this just like Bet MGM with tons of in-game betting options.

Tariffs also create something else economists hate: trying to game the system. Companies spending lots of time and money to try to minimize their impact like this:

https://viewfromthewing.com/delta-beats-trumps-tariffs-new-airbus-jets-arriving-duty-free/

Delta's Airbus orders would be subject to a 10% tariff. So they take delivery of them in Japan and technically base them overseas so they are not taxed.

Is it a stretch to think Amazon benefited China more than the U.S.? I get the cheaper pricing point, like Wal-Mart did. But they’ve pretty much crushed …..everything here? Kind of a treasonous thing in a backhanded way. No?

If Trump has his way, our economy will resemble the USSR.

Yeah, we might have goods made in America, but they’ll be low-quality clones of good brands in the same was Optima was a clone of Olympia typewriters, or Zenit was a low-quality clone of Leica.

No innovation, no competition. There will be no incentive to make goods better for the consumer because firms are artificially propped up by the government.

What a terrible way to live.

You're correct, living in a constant state of orange man bad is a terrible way to live.

Reducing everything to “orange man bad” shows you lack the intellectual capability to understand opposing arguments.

Keep running on this messaging, Trump! Americans love paying more for stuff!

That must be a very nice jacket for $628. And a $90 shirt? With or without tariffs, you can get better deals store/sites like Kohls or Macys. But if you're looking for an example of how the tariffs are hurting the average consumer you might want to cite a lower price point.

$600 for a Hart Shafner and Marx suit coat is normal.  You can buy one at Dillards in the mall.  A tailored, high quality shirt is $90.  Why should king trump be the only American able to wear nice clothes?

Why should I? European firms make better clothing.

As @Joe Ferguson forever said, $90 is a common price for a quality dress shirt, especially when you shop higher label brands like Ralph Lauren.

Hart is an American company .  it's still has a plant in Illinois.  Not sure about the factories in Rochester NY and Hamilton Ontario.  You get what you pay for.  Their stuff lasts.  It looks good.  Fits well.  so who do they compete with?  Hugo Boss comes to mind.  Even more expensive before tariffs but shouldn't any consumer be able to choose between the two?  This is so far removed from bedrock American principle of free enterprise it's sickening.  and the maga's call us socialists.

Great rebuttal. Go publish that in an academic paper.

Tariffs and protectionism stifle innovation. This is a simple economic fact.

Correct. If American made is so great, it should win out in the market place.
