Random thoughts.

I like cheap imported stuff. I have a couple new LG TVs. Really awesome, particularly the OLED one. Made in South Korea. It'll be something like 34% more expensive next week. I don't want to pay that. Should I buy an American made TV? Hah. Show me one.

I don't care where a T shirt is made. No investor is ever going to start up a T shirt factory in America. I would not feel any pride if America suddenly became the world's leading T shirt producer. In fact I would assume that it means America is seriously in decline if we've got tens of thousands of people on working in a T shirt sweat shop.

I bought a German-made EV. Really pleased. Got a federal and state EV credit. Made it super affordable. It will cost 20% more next week. Why? Last I checked that German worker seems to have better working conditions than some schmuck on the GM assembly line in Michigan

What a chicken response.

I’ll buy the dips. Is that a problem? It didn’t seem to be an issue in August.

And when this doesn’t happen, which it won’t, will you be here to walk back your hysteria? Rhetorical question.

As you well know, that was in reference to annexing an ally. It can be found on page ten of this thread. Feel free to bring it up if that ever happens. Otherwise…

What an odd hill to die on.

It’s not a hill. It’s an accurate representation of my comment on page 10 of this thread. You attempted to frame it as something else and failed miserably. No big deal. You’ve had what appears to be a very traumatic day. Hang in there. Buy the dip like you did in August.

$30 trillion gone from the economy and you’re being all cute and snobby as usual.

Eventually you’ll drop off the thread like you did with my thread about the Trump administration sending an innocent man to the gulag. Even you couldn’t defend that.

TIRED YET? NOT YET?

Look Who’s Folding Under Trump’s Tariff Pressure

Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed confidence that Canada would remove its tariffs on U.S. goods if President Donald Trump ends his trade war.

Speaking with CNBC’s Ross Sorkin on Wednesday morning, Ford responded to a question about Canada’s $60 billion in retaliatory tariffs on American imports, suggesting that the ball is in Trump’s court.

Ford is currently the chair of Canada’s Council of the Federation of premiers and has participated in bilateral discussions with U.S. officials in the past. However, it should be noted that the tariffs placed on some U.S. goods are ultimately the responsibility of the federal government.

“We’d be willing to take those off tomorrow, if he took all the tariffs off. We are not the problem,” Ford said.

Last month, the U.S. introduced a global 25 per cent tax on all steel and aluminum imports. Before that, Trump imposed a blanket 25 per cent tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico, but later exempted items that are compliant under the North American free trade pact, although that exemption is set to expire on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, it looks like Mexico is backing down, too. According to Reuters, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated on Wednesday that Mexico has no plans to impose retaliatory tariffs on the United States just ahead of President Donald Trump’s expected tariff announcement.

You seem to be against buying the dips in April but were all over it in August. Why is that?

I will try to engage more in the threads that are important to you. Please accept my apologies for not joining sufficiently in the outrage of the day.

Summers is obviously correct.

These things are dynamic. Raise tariffs. That will suppress spending. Suppress spending, retail jobs will drop. Retail jobs drop, commercial real estate drops. Spending goes down, state sales tax revenue goes down. GDP drops, or rises a percent or two or five lower than it otherwise would. The federal tax base falls, deficits rise.

These clowns have no idea what they're doing.

The April “dip” didn’t include deliberate trade warfare with every single one of our allies.

It’s cute how you consider one of the biggest acts of economic sabotage in U.S. history to be “the outrage of the day.”

Ok so let me understand...

Trump imposes tariffs on steel, aluminum and cars made in Canada.  Canada places counter tariffs.

Now Ford is saying he will take off Canadian tariffs (over which he has no authority) if Trump removes the tariffs on steels, cars and aluminum.

What is the win? Will the hotels and tourist attractions in Vermont which have lost tons of Canadian tourists as a result of the boycott get a win as well?

Help me understand.

You are prone to dramatics. A few weeks ago you declared “global economic meltdown” on a run of the mill down day for the markets. Embarrassing. You believe “torture” took place at Logan Airport. Equally embarrassing. I imagine your penchant for dramatics is because you have no meaningful experience outside of the “progressive” bubble that you inhabit. Having been around a bit, I am not prone to dramatics. We’ll see how it plays out. I will join you, pitchfork in hand, for the next midterms if that’s what is called for. Until then, something about coping and seething.
