Quite the pivot. Not too long ago we were offering recognition to Russia's annexation of 5 Ukrainian Oblasts and they turned it down.

Russia's foreign minister arrives to the Alaska summit wearing a shirt with "USSR" on it in Cyrillic.

And Putin arrived wearing a red Speedo emblazoned with hammers and sickles!

I did interpret those memes of him riding a bear to be a metaphor for his nocturnal passtimes.

Pivot = Negotiation

My expectations were low because I don't believe a negotiated peace is possible without major concessions from both sides.

Russia wants territorial concessions and a neutral Ukraine, no NATO membership, and a rollback of NATO forces from their border with specific security guarantees.

Ukraine and Europe want a do over. Unconditional peace and complete Russian withdrawal from occupied territories, NATO and EU membership, and the continuation of encircling Russia and placing offensive weapons at their border.

Something has to give or war goes on.

Bringing the world together for a solution.

Also attending:

 Italian PM Giorgia Meloni,

French President Emmanuel Macron,

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte,

Germany Chancellor Friedrich Merz,

and Finland President Alexander Stubb.

But keep starting those hilarious "President Trump got rolled by Putin" threads.

For those degrading the peace efforts.

Zelensky responds,

"I thank everyone who is helping"

We had a long and substantive conversation with @POTUS

We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us.

This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour

of our bilateral conversation with President Trump.

Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace.

President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and

the main points of their discussion.

It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development

of the situation.

We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine,

the USA, and Russia.

Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders,

and a trilateral format is suitable for this.

On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss

all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war.

I am grateful for the invitation.

It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable

security guarantees together with America. We also discussed positive signals

from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security.

We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners.

I thank everyone who is helping.

Hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine arrived in Washington for high-stakes meetings to discuss a possible path to peace with Moscow, Russian attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia killed 10 people and injured dozens, the local authorities said.

Ukrainian officials pointed to the attacks as a further sign that Russia had no intention of halting hostilities. “That’s why Putin doesn’t want to cease fire,” said Andriy Yermak, Mr. Zelensky’s chief of staff. “He enjoys shelling peaceful cities while talking about his desire to end the war.”
