The only time I "protested" was in 2000 in SF  on Black Friday. for Bush Jr in the hanging chad  matter. Since it was a day off, I went. First we marched around Union Square (the center of the shopping district where Neiman Marcus, etc were). The lefty/druggie loons were there to  protest fur and were banging on 5 gallon buckets  but not singing. We used it as  rhythm for our "Bush won Gore lost"  chant. Had one of the scum spit on a senior lady in our group. We did our chant as one of the cable cars stopped in front of us. The tourist's jaws dropped.

Had a permit and had the cops escort us down Market street towards the Ferry Building. Lots of middle fingers which we replied to with blowing kisses and saying "Thank You! Bush is #1!". Just made them seethe more.  At oe point, we spotted a funeral coming and quieted and hung our heads in respect while the counter protesters (<12) kept yelling. The cop yells at them, "A funeral is coming  A-hole!" . At the end we gave a hip-hip-hooray to the cops and they said we were the nicest protesters they had ever seen.

We were in DC with another couple for a sightseeing weekend when that occurred.  We  heard chants coming from SCOTUS and headed over.  Our friends were traditional (real) republicans then and we were D's.  We all just watched with mouths agape as the protests swelled and the TV cameras and personalities reported.  Our friends are now D's....

Glad to hear you had fun, but your story about the guy in the truck sounds…implausible.  This fellow in the truck, let’s call him Earl, his big gotcha was “Get a life!”, and blowing him kisses caused him to “floor it” Dukes of Hazard style?   What does her being quite accomplished and successful have to do with the story?  How would he know that?

nice try to twist things out of context.  it's your mo.  it's why you never post in a straightforward manner.  you try to hide your deceit but it doesn't work.

he assumed she didn't have a life.  Fact is, she has a very successful one.  Simple.

I think you're occasionally full of baloney, making up stories to fit a narrative.  That's your MO.   It's possible I'm wrong, of course, but your pickup truck story seems likely to fall into this category.  It's in the details of the story---the obligatory pickup truck, the angry man yelling "Get a life", your apparent literal interpretation and declaration that she actually has a life...and the successful lady blowing a kiss causing the the guy  to "floor it" out of there. Sounds like a bad screenplay from a 1970s B movie.

If I'm incorrect, kudos to her for having a life.  The commentary offered by the pickup truck guy was pretty banal and harmless, but certainly resembles liberal tendencies about people being in cults and worshipping orange people.  Glad everyone made it out safely.

You are incorrect.  happened as described.  lots of "macho" maga men showing their "power" by revving their engines or blowing through a busy intersection, usually in a pos vehicle.  the guy saying get a life was deliberately menacing.  he said more but I couldn't hear it above the chants.  My  friend told me forget about it.  she felt she'd won that little battle and she had.  throughout the event it was clear that one side had decorum and decency and one side had neither.  Such is the make up of America today.

I believe you're thinking of Mayberry.  That's what doesn't exist.  Hazard is very real and worse than depicted in the show.

My gosh. It really does sound menacing!

what were you chanting? No kings? This is what democracy looks like? Something even cooler than those two things? Sounds so awesome!

Gosh. You guys really spoke truth to power, not to mention rednecks. Kudos, patriot!

We are showing more timid people that there are plenty of others that agree with them  And maybe making a few moderates think deeper.  Worth it to me.  I enjoyed it.  That in itself is enough.

You didn’t initially mention  the menacing nature of the “Get a life” commentary, but in this retelling he sounds quite bloodthirsty and seems to be a regular scoundrel.   It’s interesting that he was run off by a successful lady who blew him a kiss, but I guess that’s kryptonite to menacing pick up truck drivers.

Don’t underestimate the impact of taking the timid and moderates out to the local Dairy Queen after a long day of protesting fascism.  You get ‘em a choc/vanilla twist in cherry dip, they’re voting Kamala 2028.

So you exercised your right to free speech by chanting "this is what democracy looks like" and the gentleman in the pickup exercised his by revving his engine.  Now had he thrown a monkey wrench or a sandwich or something else out his window at you that would be different.  But he didn't so no biggee I would think.

As far as your link goes, my favorite was the cartoon of Christi Norm reading Old Yeller.

nope.  the former is true. the latter was false and inflammatory.   he threw an insult out the window at a stranger he knew nothing about except that she was at a protest holding a Ukrainian flag.  these aren't equal acts in any universe...

so much hate for females among maga's.  perhaps they've experienced rejection.

Dude, you sound a little touchy.  You stand on a street corner shouting your belief and someone tosses an insult at your friend who has a life.  And you're still POed about it 3 days later?  Follow your friends advice that has a life and drop it.  Comes with the territory if you're protesting.  At the protests I go to we've had a few horn honkers and tire squealers and we laugh it off.  It's funny.  To each his own, but you do you.

nope.  bullies are not funny.  yes, crudeness and rudeness are "part of the territory" of the US now.  Doesn't mean we have to like it or submissively accept it.  They didn't get my heart rate or blood pressure up.  I knew there are many like them out there.  It was good to put faces on a few.  They  are largely who I thought they'd be - angry young men.  Call it a sociology experiment...

You actually have to accept it. It's freedom of speech.
