Proposal calls for new downtown stadium

If the key to development is a new stadium, how come there is virtually nothing out at the RWS? ECC, a couple bars, and a convenience store across the street. WHOPEE!!!!

Come on man, we also have a Texas Hots, Subways, TBCY, and last year a car wash was built down the road. You really are selling this stadium/economic impact thing a little short.

Only in Buffalo can paying hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to move an already existing business a few miles be considered "progress."

Maybe they can add some swings and store books in the new stadium, so when the Bills aren't playing, parents can take their kids to the "park" and "library."

And maybe add a couple of pentium IIs, so all the laid-off county workers can go there to surf monster.com.

They put a bunch of money into RWS not too long ago. Given the track record for getting major projects done around WNY, this is laughable. The city and county are in fiscal straights. Where would these $$ come from?

Then again, I can't wait to drive across the new Peace bridge and take my seat at this stadium and then maybe go and do some gambling at the downtown casino followed by trip to a the fancy new $750 million outer harbor that is sure to be constructed.

Just fill in the potholes and figure out a way to get RWS stadium traffic alleviated and I will be pleasantly surprised.

Lets just say Cablevision's bid for Adelphia today is accepted and the Bass Pro stuff comes through---Downtown Buffalo could actually have some hope with the right incentives and tax abbatements...I know its a pipe dream but I have seen it work other places.

Unless there is more to the story that I am unaware of, I thought the Adelphia and Buffalo marriage went the way of the Edsel? How would Cablevision change that?

I would like a stadium downtown as I think it could be instrumental in a downtown renaissance. Fiscally, I am skeptical that Buffalo and New York State could pull it off in the foreseeable future.

If they build it with a retractable roof then they could play the Super Bowl in Buffalo.

Few folks want to travel to a cold weather winter climate. The tourist trade in January is non-existant in WNY. And ya can't smoke cigarettes anywhere.

The comcast/time warner bid would leave little room for a regional hq in a place like buffalo. A cablevision bid might open up more possibilities for regional headquarters and offices...

Time Warner for example has two regional hubs in NC and employs about 2000 folks in the state--Cablevision would need that type of operation somewhere in the new markets it would obtain if it took over Adelphia's. It would be more than just the truck roll folks probably include their marketing, finance, hr and other business functions.

it was a link to a ticket website.

Yep, I gathered that from the URL. But seriously, Bflo would not be a viable SB venue. At the annual meetings, teams crab about not getting one, but after they pich their complaints, they agree that the max amount of shared bucks come from the warm weather places.

Nothing for you and me to fight about... :)
