OT-Pats v Raiders to open MNF

Recommended Posts

Because, unfortunately, the Raiders are one of the most popular teams in the NFL, even when they suck. Never mind that they can not sell out a home game without ABC or ESPN helping out with buyng up the remainder of their tix, so they will be on TV. While adding Moss will help the offense a lot, the Raiders traded away their best defensive player in Napolean Harris, to get him. Throw in the fact that that they cut Ray Buchanan, have a disgruntled Charles Woodson, and 2 over-the-hill DT's in Sapp & Washington, the Raiders D is just not that imposing.

Not only can't they sell out a home game, they were ranked 31st in attendance last season, just ahead of the Cardinals. Long ago the vagaries of syphilis appear to have led Al Davis to trade a stong local following for the enticement of a move to LA. That forever lost him the full allegiance of his original market, which just so happened to be better then the one he ran to save for the ability to sell jerseys and flags. Now he's crawled back and still has awful attendance while selling lot's og gear to the both markets he's snubbed. Go figure. If that makes you popular I'd be happy for a quiet non-descript existence that includes some attention to loyalty.

The Raiders will be able to take down the mighty Pats. The Pats have taken a lot of hits to their party train this offseason. There's a chance they will not be the same juggernaut next season.

the only real loss is bruschi----law basically wasnt even on the team last year. the rest will be easily replaced- the combination of watson(there highly touted rookie tight end from last year will be back),dwight, and b.johnson will more then make up david pattens loss

Stop b!tching about this...who cares.

On another opener note, Drew will be making his Cowboy debut in SoCal.  Looks like my first wager of next season will be on the Bolts.

Was that in the story, did I miss something?

And just how is it that the pathetic 5-11 Raider franchise gains the priviledge of a Monday Night game? ABC apparently learned nothing from their ratings disaster of last season that offered two Fish and three Cowboy appearances.

wow, it took all of 3 posts in the thread to get to the thinly veiled "buffalo gets no respect on MNF" post.

come on, people. outside of WNY the world doesn't revolve around the bills. the raiders are good theatre. they just made some huge splashes in free agency and via the randy moss trade. it makes a lot of sense that they're on MNF.

let's face it -- ABC believes there are some teams the nation always wants to see (dallas, oakland, miami, etc.), and some teams that the nation wants to see only when they're a good story. the bills fall into the latter category. once we start winning consistently, we'll be back on the MNF schedule.

That's why MNF's ratings keep falling every year and that's why ABC might give up Monday Night's to another network. People are sick of seeing the Cowboys, Patriots, Redskins, Raiders and Dolphins 2 or 3 times a year in lousy matchups.

I think that is part of it, but IMO another factor is the huge increase in NFL fans having the NFL package in their own home...so a lot of see all the games on Sundays, it was not like that in the past. If a team like Atlanta came on MNF in the early 80's, it was worth watching, because you did not get to see the Falcons all that much, so you may be more inclined to watch the game just from a curiousity standpoint. Nowadays, we see so many more games, that curiousity factor is virtually gone.

The Eagles had their way with your secondary and now your best playmaking linebacker looks like he should call it quits. Do you realize how many game turning plays he's made for you? You better hope the offense can pick up the slack.
