is Thunder and Lighting dead?

You know you love Willis just as much as we do, bro......

I hope you guys really do get Edge in a trade.......It would be great to have dueling RBs from 'The U'.  It'll also make it more satisfying when we kick the Dolphins' asses a time or three this season  :(

Willis? Willis? Dontrelle Willis maybe.

And I hate the U. BUT, as thug as he is, I respect Edge for his game, and for what he's done off the field.

Get this: He bought a store downtown of the town where he grew up, and turned it into a youth center, put inTVs, books, video games, foosball. And then he left the doors unlocked. He gets so much respect that no one steals anything from there. Well one night I guess he was working late on seomthing in the center, and he fell asleep on the couch in front of the TV. When he woke up, some kids had come in to use the center, saw him sleeping, didnt want to wake him, and went to sleep on the floor. So he wakes up to 6 or 7 kids sleeping around him.

Cute story. Shows he's a cool guy.

Travis playing with a "broken leg" was blown so out of proportion. It was a non-weight bearing bone. ANY NFL back would play with that condition. There's minimal pain, and he couldn't do any more damage.  But the Buffalo Media was looking to give him props for being tough, because like it or not, he was never that good.

He also had a cracked rib, which is extremely painful if you market porn over the Internet let alone be a RB in the NFL. He was voted MVP of the team by his fellow players. Coming into last season he put up back to back years that only 5-6 other backs in the entire league could match in yards and TDs and catches. I really don't understand this hatred. He was an excellent player for the Bills and he tried harder for the Bills than you have ever tried at anything in your life. And I can just about guarantee that without really knowing you. I know he tried harder for the Bills than anything I have ever done.

Agreed. TH was the only one amongst those gutless losers on the Bills 2003 Offense who played like he gave a damn. Maybe it's still guilt by association, look at the few players that are left: Moulds (gets a pass from most cause he was hurt, but still gets slammed today by some), Teague, MW, Reed, TH... everyone but Campbell is somebody's whipping boy. Gilbride & others may be gone, but that season left behind a lot of ugly memories and scars... big reason why I didn't mind seeing Jennings leave town.

You're absolutely right. Travis was the only one. He fought like hell for every friggin' inch when it looked like no one else on the offense gave a sh--.

Ok, I know, I know, kindler gentler, TBD. But that reply was just assinine. Does it make you feel good that because some of the companies I do business with (including Microsoft) deal in porn that you have an easy target to attack me with? Does that help you when you have nothing else to say? Does it bother you that I make as much money as I do at such a young age? Or is it the fact that you hate your job and I enjoy mine?

Oh, "and he's tried harder than I have for anything?" Are you kidding me you? I graduated with a dual bachelor degree, cum laude, while working 2 jobs so that I could land the type of job where I wouldn't have to be the type of person to B word about a 1% sales tax increase in Western New York. Travis plays football.

So, "brother", you can get off your knees for Travis. I was bashing an overrated RB in the NFL and you had to make it personal. Wrong choice. Knowing that my job is fun for you to play around with will make cashing my paycheck this week even more enjoyable.

Actually, I wasn't bashing your job whatsoever. I happen to love porn. I have zero problem with your job, and wish you well. You can make a ton of money and be happy if that is what makes you happy. The point was, ONLY, that a cracked rib hurts like hell even if you're working at a desk doing marketing, let alone having 300 pound freaks of nature running full speed at you trying to break you in two.

By the way, I happen to love my job as much as is humanly possible and would never do anything else. If you think studying hard and working two jobs is very hard, you're absolutely right. If you think it is harder than playing running back in the NFL, you should probably have studied more because you don't sound very smart. :(

If you didn't intend to bash my job, you did a poor job of it, but I will believe that you didn't intend to. In that case, I apologize for my 'knee jerk' reply.

That being said, I have a feeling getting two degrees would be harder than running for 2000 yards for Travis Henry, who I believe scored at or near a 10 on his wonderlic.

That being said, thanks for your calm reply. This kindler, gentler, TBD is really working, and I think I don't like it!

Actually, I'll very respectfully (in addition to kindly and gently) disagree with you there, doggie. I may be no Stevestojan, but I had to work 40-50 hrs per week while the rest of the world was sleeping in order to go to school full time and graduate summa cum laude with a BA in (research) psych. A lot of other folks have to work full time and go to school full time, too.....and after having done it myself, I'd put that up against being a RB in the NFL any day.

Why do you think the average lifespan of an NFL running back is 3-4 years, because there are so many good ones coming up to replace them? Think again. I am not talking about hours you put in, or the rewards one gets, or how much fun playing football may be. I am talking about putting your body through things that humans aren't supposed to withstand. How hard these guys actually hit, and try. How painful it is for these guys on Monday and Tuesday when they can hardly get out of bed, especially when you're the size of Travis Henry and carrying the ball 325 times in a season with no one really blocking for you. It is simply brutal on a mind, on an entire body, on a psyche. What Travis put himself through in that 2003 season was savage.

What if we can't get good enough compensation for Travis? Would it be extreme to try to mend ways with the TH and make him a very good complementary back along with WM? This would give us a great 1-2 punch, and we can have both on the field at the same time like Mularkey had planned originally...TH would get a chance to redeem himself after a very dissapointing '04 and earn that contract with another team (ala Lamont Jordan)

flame away

267594

Travis has real little say in the matter. If he wants to get paid, he'll have to swallow his pride and play for a new contract when he's finally a free agent. It's up to him and only him.

As long as he's on the roster, he's still my favorite Bill.

If Travis wasnt going to grow up last year with McGahee, what makes everyone think he'll gladly back him up this season?

267605

If by some fluke TH is still with us this upcoming season, I would like to believe that a guy sitting on the last crumb of a contract, playing for a team he HAS to play for because no one else wanted him, has GOT to want to put his best foot forward since every time he touches the ball, it's another line on his resume. If he is with us next year and gives up, that will be the end of his career until the Raiders come calling.

Well one night I guess he was working late on seomthing in the center, and he fell asleep on the couch in front of the TV. Oh my god...did you get a chance to peak at Michael Jackson's defense plan? "So there I was, sleeping on the couch, and the next thing I know I'm waking up surrounded by six or seven kids sleeping with me...." :D

I hear what you are saying......but I honestly think that it's just a difference between physical strain and mental/social strain. I know a couple single moms who can listen to what I accomplished with my degree and make it look plain silly in comparison with what they are doing. A lot of people, myself included, didn't take summers off, either. It was like 3 years of the same thing, with very little time for a social life or relationships. GRanted, I think Travis is a tough bastard. But at the same time, if someone told me that I could become a millionaire in 3-4 years but the catch would be that my joints and everything else would be a mess when it was over, I'd gladly make that deal.

I'm honestly not trying to say that pro athletes don't have tough jobs, and I'm not saying they don't have permanent physical issues because of the pounding they take. I just think that all you have to do is look around and you'll probably realize you know someone who works just as hard or harder in their every day life, with only a fraction of the financial reward.

I might agree with you, if there were 300 pound guys jumping up and down on your liver while you were finishing a term paper. :D

School is frustrating and mentally exhausting. Professional contact sports have both of those components as well as the added bonus of literally getting the sh-- kicked out of you at the same time.
