Last year he was exposed in the running game getting beat on the edge so many times.

 

There was some pretty rampant speculation in another thread, pointing out some key mistakes by Lawson in the KC game last season.

These mistakes were huge, but Lawson was not playing his natural position.

To be fair, the cap hit cutting him now vs next year for next years accounting probably is nearly identical. The dudes dead money next year would be very low even if he plays out this year.

 

if you cut him now, you save $1.1 mil this year with $2 mil dead money (that could be spread out over this year and next) and all of his $3.4 mil salary/cap hit next year (no dead).

 

it just seems that average veterans like manny are getting squezzed out of the league in favor of high paid impact players and minimum paid rookies/free agents.

he was the silent champion, the unknown lynch pin.

 

Lawsons ability to contain the outside with Mario and whoever we subbed at DE on the strong side allowed Alonso to lurk the middle and funnel action there. Mario set the pocket. Lawson held the flat, contained the outside bounce out and sealed the edge. It was film study material watching how Lawson worked with Williams. Two NCSU guys that came out together.
