Widely reported that 49ers didn't want to pay especially when they still had Alex Smith coming off great year and Kaepernick on bench. But Harbaugh knew Alex Smith was not taking them to a Super Bowl and Kaepernick was an unknown quantity. This is the genesis of Harbaugh/Baalke tension. I could definitely see it. Lots of connections. Pegula's seem to have Bill Polian connection, who has a relationship with Manning(he was fired from Colts because he did not want to jettison Manning for Luck. Whatever you think of the decision, he for sure has access to Manning). Manning does not want to retire. He is less than 2500 yards away from the NFL record for passing yards.
