Your ideal starting 22 in 2014

I'd have to agree with almost everything. I love that you chose Benjamin over Evans for your drafted WR. I'm a huge Benjamin believer and not completely sold on Evans. Especially for where it seems like we'd have to draft him (high 1st). I also think if Hairston can come back healthy, he has played well when he's been in. The only one I'd disagree with is Pitta. The injury he had scares me. He is a good TE, but he spends a lot of time in the trenches where knees can get rolled. I actually like Chandler. Do I like his drops sometimes? No. But he also makes some incredibly tough catches. I'd also like to take a TE in the draft somewhere. Good post!

I think Benjamin will be snagged by a smart playoff team at the end of the first; I can see the Chiefs, Saints, or Seahawks drafting him.

The TE/big receiver that interests me is Devin Funchess who is going into his junior year. I only saw him a couple of times but when I see a guy that big running reverses from the TE position it does spark my interest. He is listed at 235 but could get bigger. Am I off on him?

You may be right. I like Benjamin a lot as a prospect. He's a little raw but awfully talented.

That makes him a perfect fit for a team that doesn't have questions at quarterback. The Seahawks can work him in without worrying about their offense flowing, though they may take a guard in the first. Best-case scenario: they add an A.J. Green-type to an already-deadly offense. In the worst case, they still have a very talented offense that can sustain drives.

In the case of a team like Buffalo, getting a player like Benjamin to develop while your Q.B. needs serious developmental help (not a knock on E.J., whom I like, but the reality) can be very difficult and lead to a wasted pick/career.

I thought about trying to put together a realistic starting 22 for next year. This factors in free agency and the draft. In addition, I am using a 4-3 & 3WR set for this exercise. I would love feedback and thoughts from you guys as to what you like or what you'd do differently. Please try to remain realistic (ie EJ will be starting it looks like).

The team could probably trade down twice and still pick up Yankey at 23 or so. Unless there is a player the team loves at 9, which there should be, it would be awesome to trade down to, say, 16, and then again to 23, picking up two extra second-round picks in the process. Given our needs- offensive linemen, a tight end, and an I.L.B.- such a strategy could mean we still pick up quality players at those positions, and we'd have four early shots.

True. Especially Seattle. Two seasons in a row now that Sydney Rice has had significant injuries. Harvin always injured.

Utilize 3rd,4th, and 5th round to take OL, CB, LB. RB. Take RB Jerome Smith, Jay Bromley, Sean Hickey if I can

Your ideal situation includes acquiring Jonathan Martin? Even for a 6th, eh, I don't want him to be our starting RT

Trading down twice would be fine by me. Though if we trade down the first time to around 15, i would probably just not chance it and take Yankey there. Hes that good if he declares, which he probably will.

I know taking a Guard in the teens is kinda nuts. Last time we did i think was Ruben Brown at 13 or 14 ? Yankey is the total package and the left side of our line would be set for years.
