[closed]What does "football analytics" mean?

Recommended Posts

My understanding is that it is basically advanced statistical analysis and predictive analysis.

Looking at past occurences and predicting future success.

For instance.

Are you statisically better off punting on 4th and 1 from the opponents 35 yard line or does it make sense to attempt a FG or even to go for it.

I realize this is an over simplification, but this is the basic idea.

Probably similar to baseballs cyber metrics...course I don't understand that either.

I've recently heard the phrase "football analytics" a lot in the past few days relating to NFL head coaches. I've ever heard this before. Russ Brandon has mentioned it in his interviews. Can anyone shed some light, please?
