My thoughts on the draft

I agree with Maddog69 on this one, he may be placed on the outside, but that doesn't mean just because he has speed he is going to only be running deep routes and "going long", I can see the majority of his plays being designed where he will run slants and make quick catches that are designed to let him use his speed after he makes the catch, with the ability to occasionally allow the Bills to have him just go deep and throw a bomb to him.

As for the kicker pick, I think they are seeing the end of Lindell career in Buffalo coming soon and are looking at bringing in his replacement now. I highly doubt they waste a roster spot to keep 3 kickers on the roster (Moorman for punts, Lindell for FG's, and the new guy for kickoffs). I see him being put onto the practice squad after training camp and used as an insurance policy if Lindell goes down, and will be his eventual replacement when they feel he can take over full time.

Things could have been much worse, we could have taken a 28 year old Qb in the 1st, or a punter in the 3rd

Buddy clearly said in a post-draft presser that they will use Graham as an outside receiver. Just because he is small like Roscoe doesn't mean they plan on using him like Roscoe. I am looking forward to seeing what this absolute burner can do in a Bills uni!

I am not bashing Graham at all. I think Chan will find lots of uses for him in the Offense. If you watch his highlights, most of his catches where quick slants or WR screens. Plays where the QB got the ball in his hands and game him a chance to make a play. He was not utilized much as a down field threat. That's not to say we won't use him in that way, just that his primary experience is not in that type of roll. You cannot coach speed. If he can stay healthy and is willing to work hard, he should be a valuable addition to the team.

Didn't they JUST extend Lindell for either 3 or 4 years? This is a move for a kickoff specialist, and while yes, he'll also get a chance to kick FGs during preseason, the expectation is not that he will force Rian out of a job. Lindell is one of the best kickers in the game -- look at his career stats.

I love listening to Buddy speak -- for some of the same reasons, I miss Dwight Adams.

I answered my own question:

If this is correct, Buddy has Dwight doing some scouting for the Bills

Good get, Peter.

It's nice to know Dwight's contributing to the efforts at One Bills Drive even while in semi-retirement.

He was a highly-regarded personnel guy not so long ago.

Thanks. I totally agree.

He also has a bit of a connection to TBD - through his daughter as I recall. I always loved the guy. TD treated him horribly.

Roscoe -- 5'9" 175 lbs.

Graham -- 5'11" 188 lbs.

TJ is not a waterbug slot receiver. He's also a kid, and we can expect he'll add some weight as he adds muscle. The Bills stated publicly they view Graham as an outside deep threat, and he'll need development on other aspects of the position.

This is the kind of pick Al Davis was famous for making with the Raiders. Some hit, some don't. But, as they say, you can't coach speed.

Can you name any "outside deep threats" who are under 6 foot? I just tried to off the top of my head and I cant think of any..

First off, great post. It's nice to have a well thought out post regarding this draft as opposed to uninformed knee-jerk reactions. That said, I totally disagree with you here. Kickers almost always lead the team in scoring and hold nearly every teams scoring records. Having a great kicker can be the difference in close games. Kickers are extremely underrated IMO, we saw what happened with Rayner and Coutu :wallbash:

Thanks :)
