"It's still the economy".......

Except the price of gasoline affects the price of EVERYTHING in this world. How do you think products get to the store? When gas prices double (which they have), that means the cost of getting goods and services to their end points do exactly the same.

The price of gas has a SIGNIFICANT affect on how the world economy works. During the Clinton Administration, oil averaged $17BBL for over 7 years. The world economy went absolutely crazy. Then, with a few months to go, oil prices spiked and the world economy started griding downward in a predictable manner.

Your example is far too simple for reality.

Its not gas that we need to be focused on, but the price of oil. Gasoline is just one of a end products of oil, as oil is an input in nearly every product we buy. Its not just transportation costs, but all manners of energy, consumer products, chemicals, solvents.. so yeah, the price of oil really affects EVERYTHING.

The issue with that Statement, is if he gets sick he still gets treated, because we as a society do not turn people away, we just shift costs of care..... in the absence of exclusion, one could argue HI is a need.

He'd get treated, but he'd be forced to pay out of pocket until he went bankrupt, after which he could go on medicaid. It's still a want, as in he should want to have it so that he doesn't go bankrupt and then become a burden on society.

And the fallacy of Obamacare is that everyone will start going to the doctor and ER's will be empty. The illegals will still go there because EMTALA says that no one can be turned away. And the people who mostly populate/re-populate the ER's will continue to go there because they don't have to wait days, much less weeks, to be seen, and it's a way to get away from their home environment for awhile.

Yep, like I intimated above. I was watching CNN one day a few weeks and they had Ben Stein on talking about gas price. He said the same thing d4rk did about how gas prices just raise everyone's gas bill a few dollars. I thought he was smarter than that, but I guess a shill doesn't need to think much, or at least admit the truth.

You're right but you're wrong.

When Joe the Plumber blames the president for the price of gas, he's not thinking about the world economy. So, while you're absolutely right about the impact of gas prices, when it becomes a political ploy, it's about the voters' cash in hand, and nothing else.

He's still right. Because the voters will be reminded by Romney that gas prices affect EVERYTHING else since everything needs to either be manufactured from oil or transported to you somehow.

But that is the simplicity of the argument that politicians make and that people buy into. No one takes into account the global impact of oil prices. This is evidenced by every car company in American scraping to make their cars one MPG more efficient than the other. Most consumers don't take into account that the difference in fuel costs at that level are negligible.

I truly believe that no one takes their expenditures on fuel into account when they make decisions regarding fuel efficient automobiles. They just see "ohh this will be cheaper" and go with it. That's why we have people driving Smart Cars when they could be driving a Golf Diesel or a Fiesta, which are infinitely more practical.

It's the same reason people sh*t a brick when prices go up $0.75 cents a gallon and then it's "don't elect this guy, he's gonna take your gas money!"

If the big picture mattered, we wouldn't be having these discussions.

Car manufacturers "scrape" to make their cars one MPG more efficient because of CAFE standards. Every MPG they squeeze out of efficient cars has a downstream affect on their ability to sell higher margin SUVs and trucks. The "Sales Factor" of MPG is a positive byproduct, but not the reason for the goal.

You're not going to find disagreement from me when it comes to the stupidity of the world populous. We keep electing Democrats and Republicans and falling for **** like "Global Warming", don't we?
