Update

Elsewhere, a gunman dressed in a police uniform opened fire at a Labor Party youth camp at Utoya, an island outside Oslo, on Friday, shooting several youths, party spokesman Per Gunnar Dahl told The Associated Press. He said unconfirmed reports said five people were hit as panicked youth tried to escape the island swimming.

It wasn't immediately clear if the two attacks were related.

I would think it very likely they are related.

The New York Times quotes a terrorism expert as saying that the terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, has issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack. The newspaper quotes Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism, as saying the group called the attacks a response to Norwegian forces' presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. The statement added that "there is more to come." The Times notes that the claim could not be confirmed.

You know the cartoons.
