Jet's Setting Trend

Recommended Posts

Very strong offensive line that makes running the ball a priority. Two very strong running backs that make third and shorts possible and makeable. Young quarterback with good arm who has learned via the Bills when to throw the ball away and/or take a sack. Strong option package with durable and young option quarterback.

The Jets don't hide what they are doing too much. They seem to let you know and beat you at their game. Same thing with their blitzing on defense. Two excellent one on one cover guys allow lots of flexibility with blitzes.

Jets believe in the philosophies of Schott and Ryan and like playing to win and not to lose. Thats is really all that most players really want opposed to punting on the Saints 49 with five minutes left down by eleven.

A new stadium, a young and confident team, and coaches who coach to the players strengths should change the tide of the AFC next year. The Jets are the team to beat just like the Bills were after Harmon dropped the touchdown. You just saw it coming. Let's hope our new coaches finish their coaching search and begin the evaluation process soon because there is alot of work to do.

Hardly trend setting. In fact, it's the oldest formula for success in football.

It's a little early to be comparing these Jets, who backed into the playoffs, to the Bills that lost to the Browns on Harmon's drop. But with that line, running game, and defense they will be a force to be reckoned with for sure. Sanchez has a ways to go before he's anywhere near as good as Kelly was against the Browns that year.

GO BILLS!!!

What I mean regarding the trend is that the Colts, Saints, Pats, and Chargers have passed to open up the run and not vice versa.

If Sanchez doesn't lose them the game by throwing interceptions. They are going to be tough to beat unless you get up on them and take them out of their game. The option package with Smith has the possibility of a big play without the threat of a turnover.

I am not lying down to these guys by any stretch and what is nice about shifts in play is that other team design the blueprint and everyone copies it. Let's hope we don't have to design the blueprint.

pretty sound logical reasoning!

The Jets are on the up and up BUT they aren't a slam dunk to be good next season. Mark Sanchez isn't for sure the answer the kid had Jamarcus Russel (In his rookie year) numbers so to say they have the QB is very specious reasoning. The Jets also have 2 older players along their O-line in Damion Woody and Alen Faneca (Both will be over 32 come next season) and Brandon Moore will be 30 as well.

So in addition to QB concerns and aging offensive line members their receivers while nice aren't exactly elite either. Now look at their D Kris Jenkins is injured all the time plus old, Shaun Ellis, Lito Sheppard and Bryan Thomas all are older players as well. So while the Jets have really good D in place there are some age concerns on it as well.

So I feel like the Jets have a lot of concerns on the offensive side of the ball and what is not often talked about is the Jets D lack of clutchness through out the season.

During what could have been a game that made or broke their playoff chances they let the Falcons march up the field to score the game winning TD when they had only let up a field goal the whole game. Also the Jets D couldn't hold a 11 point lead on the Colts in the AFC title game, they also let the Fins score 21 points in the 4th quarter in their 1st game with the Jets, and in the game against Jacksonville they let the Jags score a late 4th quarter Field Goal (A chip shot at that) when they were up by 1.

So 3 times during the regular season they let a team score late points that cost the Jets games. AND in the AFC title game they didn't hold a 11 point lead. The Jets D was a very unclutch D this season.

I disagree with that point. I look to what Pittsburgh did with a young Big Ben. They asked him to simply manage games by not turning the ball over and making the occasional throw, all the while letting the run game and defense win the game. They asked him to "not lose the game". This is what's appropriate for a young QB so he can be brought along slowly and grow in confidence until he becomes the leader by example.

What's funny is the Superbowl this year will showcase 2 of the teams you listed as NOT doing what the Jets are doing.... hmmmm.....

the jets we're basically given a spot in the playoffs. not to sound like a hater but I can't remember the last team that had an easier ride into and during the playoffs then them. They got in because it was a very mediocre AFC this year and they got beat pretty good by one of the only real teams in the NFL this year. There defense is something to be excited about, but Ryan will wear old on the jets and it's only a matter of time before he will be gone.

It may be to our advantage that we're going through wholesale changes with our coaches. You could make the argument that we've been aimed (drafting many DBs; focus on ball control O) at beating the Pats* for a number of years -with absolutely no success. Typically, that's the aim of teams in a division that's being ruled by one team over the course of a few years. Now, with Parcells/Sparano and the Wildcat and Ryan's new Jets, it seems like a great opportunity to create our own new face. We just HAVE to get better at attacking the 3-4 defense.

Um it WAS the oldest formula for success. Now it is all about the QB and the passing game. And BTW Jim Kelly always said 'We use the pass to open up the run for Thurman'.

And the two teams in the superbowl? Both major PASSING teams. Times have changed, throw the damn ball!

They play Marty Ball. We will be playing Chan Ball for the next 3 years. Fasten your seatbelts.

Next year people will be saying that the Bills are setting the trend. The key to success is filling your coaching staff with CFL coaches, college coaches, and NFL rejects and retirees.

ok they got to the playoffs - but let us not get too enamored with those lofty jests - if for no other reason than how they made it to the playoffs - not exactly awe inspiring

What Bills fan who has been put through what we have been put through the past decade wouldn't accept a "not exactly awe inspiring" trip to the playoffs. It is not only what you have done but it is the direction that you are going. They got to the playoffs and their bandwagon tickets are getting more expensive every day.

I think our secondary is very strong which limits them mostly to the run which we were pretty awful at last year. Poz is better than average but not by much. Mitchell, Ellison and Draft are ok but that area needs help and the DLine needs help because Ellis isn't going to do it and who knows what Maybin will do.

I am not lying down to them by any stretch but we are either going to have to figure out how to stop what they do well or figure out we what are good at pretty quick.
