open letter to the south

General Sherman should have been allowed to complete his work and reconstruction was the worst idea EVER! The South should have been kept in third-world nation status. ARGH!

having spent several years in a blue northern state and the last couple in a red southern state, i have to disagree

with the exception of my favorite football teams (bills, psu, packers, steelers), there's really nothing the north has to compete with the south

No way!

Southerners are hilarious, man.

I made fun of Dale Earnhardt's death so hard a couple years ago, that I actually made a Wal-Mart employee cry at her counter. And I often explain to people around here that General Sherman and Nat Turner are my heroes. Since even the smartest rednecks in the south are mildly retarded, they have no idea who I'm talking about.

whaddya expect, they go to public school

126188[/snapback]

Doesn't matter.

The only significant correlation between education and success is socioeconomic background. Not class size, not school choice, etc. If the parents give a rats ass about education, chances are their children will too.

Since children that are home-schooled or attend private school usually come from better socioeconomic backgrounds, their grades tend to reflect that fact. Regardless, there isn't much of a difference between the median college bound student from a public or private school, suggesting that both recieve a similar education. Children from the right background have a higher chance of succeeding in any environment.

Public schools aren't necessarily worse, they are just burdened with more children that don't give a damn which reflects poorly on the school. Think back to high school, remember how many kids didn't want to be there in the first place? If they could just drop out and dig ditches for the rest of their life, public schools would get much higher ratings.

:I starred in Brokeback Mountain: the "moral majority." All of this moral pandering is downright scary. Just look at what has happened with the FCC, people voting against thier economc interest because they are afraid a judge will change a poem kids say before school, or voting because they are afraid of what Jon Stewart called "hot man on man monigamy."

OUr country is becoming like the puritans where out neghbors and government are running around, pointing, yeling "sinner!" "sinner!" :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: We need a "Hester Pryne" revolt!

where in my post does it say anything about morals or sinners?

i was just posting an observation on having lived in both the blue north and red south

for folks who preach so much on tolerance and diversity and accepting others, the left sure does have a problem practicing what they preach in regards to the other 51% of the country

Where do you live now, and have you ever lived in the South? Do you realize that the moral majority lives everywhere, not just the South? There are also liberals living in the North. I have lived in California, Tennessee, northeastern PA, and Western NY, and all these places have people of drastically diverse political views. Anyone who agrees with an KzooMike and hateful site like this is not very open minded in my opinion.

Try reading this site, I think it's a good counterpoint to "F the south".

Impressive argument. Obnoxious, KzooMike, unneccessarily vulgar. Can't understand why you can't get everyone to agree with you.

Yeah, there's almost no porn on the internet anymore and it's been like 3 days since I read about a Catholic priest molesting some kid.

These "the sky is falling" posts just never get old. And we wonder why these political parties keep shoveling this stevestojan at us while stealing all our money.

The Southern problem have spread to the midwest and west, my friend. No longer is it just the South, but in those more rural areas as well. There are just cultural differences that I am at a loss to EVER understand.

True, the Moral 'Majority' is everywhere... Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Nebraska, Kansas, California, Indiana, etc... but only the SOUTH can bring in to you via those insane televangelists and false prophets on television and through other media. Herein lies the difference!

And you know what, since we're generalizing here, I'd like to put in my two cents:

The north is full of pandering, corrupt, gay-loving liberals that love to hand out their money to lazy, greedy minorities that happen to be their neighbors.

See, doesn't that sound great?

You're a bigot, slothrop, and the worst kind. a HYPOCRITICAL bigot.

I'll forgo what I was going to say about the south, as that is my home, and I do take offense. Can't reason with ignorance.

Everyone needs to come more to the center. The harder the "libs" (perceived as the blue) push a splintered, special interest agenda-the harder those that want some sort of a moral and cohesive base to their society are going to push in the opposite direction. The key difference is, in my opinion, that the more conservative factions tend to me more supportive of what is good for the group as a whole, at least in their perception. The liberal faction concentrates on what is good for the individual, irregardless of what it does to the fabric of their society. They then back up and try to justify why their view is good for the whole, and it generally amounts to "what does it hurt?"

LOL! I hate the religous based political ideology of the south and "square states" so, yeah I am a bigot. This is funny.

on the lighter side, I'll tell you what I dislike about the north and south from personal experience:

North - 5 month winters long in Bflo, ice storms, New York sport teams other than Bflo

South - fried fired and more fried food, cockroaches, lack of beer choices (wake up - there's more to beer than Bud and Bud lite), Miami, and Dallas

but hey, its a package deal and you take the good with the bad...

Yeah, you HATE people that have religious beliefs.

That makes you a bigot whether you like it or not. Now I realize it's uite fashionable to be a religion hater on the left, but it's still wrong.

LOL! Wrong - I said I hate religous BASED POLITICAL IDEOLOGY. History shows us OVER AND OVER that when religon becomes politics rarely do good things happen. (See, Inquisition; See also, witch trials; KKK; Bin Laden; election of George Bush).

The above statement doesn't seem to reflect any opinion about religious ideology. It's inflamatory crap slamming a large portion of the country you present yourself to be a citizen of. Also, for the large part most of this region embraces a fairly conservative social and political viewpoint that is not neccessarily religiously based. I've lived down that way several years and can name many people who haven't set foot inside a church in 40 years that voted Republican.
