DJ...the aftermath

As bad as the 3 years of DJ were, there was one positive mark he left on the team...our secondary. LOL, he got flamed all the time for acquiring DB's but we lead the NFL in INT's and those INT's have been big reasons we have won a couple games or been competitive in some losses.

Thats about the only positive mark he left, but at least its something...lmao

Still, in a division with Brady, thats a good thing to have going forward with a new staff. Now move Maybin to LB, start Harris at LB, and draft an LT and DE this year and we will be on our way...assuming Brohm or Fitzy can handle the starting QB duties next year (or a vet QB). I am not sold on Fitzy yet, he is easily better than Trent, but need to see some consistency out of him. Still like the potential of Brohm better, but who knows, maybe Fitzy can keep improving too into a solid starter next year, just not sold yet.

You're right, that's the only positive thing you can say about "The Dick".

Hopefully, we can get a consistent pass-rush next season and we'll have double the INT's.

No kidding...could you imagine the impact a consistent pass rush would have on this secondary that already has 21 INTS?

I would love to see someone just finally move Maybin to LB and see what he can do...he is still young, and we dont get to see what he doesn in practice, so not ready to say he is a bust at DE, but what you see on the field looks like he would be better suited at LB and lord knows we need help there too...

Instruct anyone to put 80 percent of their concentration and 30% of their total resources into the secondary, and you'll probably see similar results. Yes, we have pretty decent DBs.

Yet, his manlove for DBs was the reason many other segments did not get reinforcement. And it's why our roster management is as screwed as it is, especially wrt LB depth, because these guys are barely more than Safeties + 5 pounds (which, in some cases, isn't much different from the starters). As a consequence to LB being maybe the most frequently injured positions in the NFL by the nature of the position, we have been railroaded most of the year.

Denver converted Elvis Dumervil from DE to LB and he's having a career year so far with 12 sacks. Maybe whoever is running the team next season will make the switch on Maybin.

Another reason I'm so glad The Dick is gone, he never put the players that played the best on the field. This pre-season, Copeland Bryan & Chris Ellis were getting constant QB pressure, but Dick decides to release Bryan and continue to start Kelsay. It took an injuries to get Jabary Greer and Fred Jackson on the field as well, even though both had spectaular pre-seasons. Glad to see Fewell going with the better players (Fitz & Jackson).

The only way that really works is if the player can demonstrate an ability to drop into coverage. If there is no ability to do that, then the converted LB is just another undersized DE who only rushes the passer.

The real question is if Maybin can actually drop into coverage effectively. If he can't, don't make the switch. And maybe, just maybe, that's why they haven't so far.

Was nice to see Stupar get some action yesterday, after the preseason he had. Again, injury-necessitated.

Denver (DC Mike Nolan) also switched first round pick Robert Ayers, a 275 defensive end his entire college career, to outside linebacker. He looks pretty good there but seems out of position. I wonder how much DeMarcus Ware and Shawne Merriman drop into coverage. BTW, on at least one play against Jacksonville, Maybin lined up as a linebacker in a pass rush situation. On the play I recall, he was stacked behind Schobel.
