  1. Trace Armstrong did not hit Flutie head on. Flutie was in throwing motion when Armstrong's helmet blasted Flutie's right arm (which had the ball), Armstrong was coming in on the right side.
  2. Tony, I meant in general the "Doom & Gloomers" on here say the Bills suck, sorry I didn't clarify that. What branch of the service were you in? Seriously, congrats on military retirement . I was going for 20 years, but made in 8 years 8 months in the Marines before I was medically separated (tore up my foot & ankle). The reasons I think the Bills will be better this year, is that they went 6-10 last season, had a huge cluster f@ck to start the season (Schonert & Walker fired, AVP thrown in as OC), 20 players on IR and Dick Jauron as HC. Last year, only 1/3 of our defense was good, which was our pass defense. The run defense was a sieve (ranked #30, giving up 156.2 YPG), and couldn't muster much of a pass rush. I've always been a firm believer that in cold weather cities (like Buffalo) you need bigger linemen. I like that the Bills got bigger players on defense and are going to a hybrid 3-4. I expect the run defense to be much improved, but it's still way too early to tell about the pass rush. On offense, like I said earlier, they were a mess to start the season and it didn't help that Jauron wanted a more dulled down offense. During Jauron's time, we basically saw the same offensive sets, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 RB's or 3 WRs, 2 TEs and 1 RB, no WR in motion. I think the offense (that ranked 30th) will be better, but only marginally better (probably finish 20th-25th). There are a ton of question marks on the offense: Can Stevie Johnson & James Hardy develop into good WR's? Can Gailey get consistent production from Evans? Can Gailey get better production from the O-line? Who will emerge as the starting QB and how well will that QB do? I'm not saying playoffs (echo Jim Mora), but I can see the team finishing around 8-8/9-7. I like what Nix helped took part in when he went to SD. The Chargers were 1-15 when Nix & Co went there, five years later, the Chargers were 14-2. IMO, I can see the Bills in the playoffs in a year or two. I like how Nix is building this team and feel this rebuilding process should have taken place 10 years ago.
  3. Here are the 2 playoff stats for Flutie & Johnson: Flutie: 21 for 36, 360 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 Fumbles, Sacked 3 Times Johnson: 16 for 22, 131 yards, O TD, O INT, 2 Fumbles, Sacked 6 times. The Titans turned Johnson's turnover (which was deep in Buffalo's terrority) into a touchdown. One of Johnson's sacks was for a safety. There's no denying Flutie had 3 turnovers that game, but what the stats don't show is Moulds fumble (which should have went for a TD if Moulds ran fast & secured the ball) and Reed's personal foul penalty on the goaline. Since instant replay wasn't allowed back then, it's arguable that Reed was in for the TD, but that still gave him no right to hit the ref in the back with the ball and get a 15 yard personal foul penalty. Even though Flutie made mistakes in that game, he still did enough to put the Bills in position to win by passing for 360 yards and putting the ball in Moulds & Reeds hands to get TD's, in which those 2 players majorly screwed up. That's why it's a team game. On the other hand for 58 minutes of the game, Rob Johnson did nothing to put the Bills into a winning position. His fumble costs the Bills 7 points when the Titans capitalized on that turnover, plus cost the Bills another 2 points with one of the 6 sacks of the day being a safety. Johnson had a little over 1/3 of the passing yards that Flutie had compared to the previous year's playoff game. Yes, Johnson stepped up his game on the final drive to put the Bills in FG range, but that wasn't enough. 2 minutes of good play could not erase 58 minutes of bad play. Bottom line, Flutie was an average QB who played with a lot of heart & determination. Johnson had all the physical tools, but never had the drive & determination and could never put all the pieces together to become a franchise QB.
  4. If Moulds didn't hot-dog his run, that 2TD's for Flutie. If Reed didn't get a 15 yard personal foul penalty and a game ejection on the goaline, that's another TD (4 tries to punch it in on the goaline, Buffalo would have scored). But I guess those don't matter, do they?
  5. Yes he fumbled in the first half, but he also put the team in more winning positions throughout the game (see my posts about Eric Mould & Andre Reed costing the Bills 2 TD's). I also remember when the Bills were trailing the Jags in the 4th quarter and Thurman botched the hand off, Flutie tucked in ball in and dove towards the pilon for the winning TD. I'm not saying Flutie was great, but with the terrible O-line we had, a mobile QB is what we needed.
  6. No one will argue that the Bills have been badly mismanaged and haven't been good over the last 10 years. It starts at the top with Ralph Wilson. Ralph made Donahoe team president and Ralph disappeared for 5 years. Donahoe tried building an instant winner that didn't work. Donahoe didn't want a coach that was going to talk back to him (like Cowher did) so he hired "Yes Sir, Mr. Donahoe" guys. Majority of Donahoe's draft picks and most importantly, trading away our #1 picks set this organization back. Levy came back and hired his pal Jauron, wrong choice. Jauron wanted a smaller, faster defense that didn't work. Yeah, all of us get the Bills haven't been good in ten years. It's one thing to say that you don't think the Bills will do well because of this and because of that...etc, but if you're gonna say the Bills suck and bash them up and down, then why even bother posting on here. If you can't stand the Bills, think they're gonna suck and are not making the right moves, then why even bother wasting your time on this team? It's like complaining about your neighbors and can't stand them, but are nice to their faces.
  7. More like he got demolished by Trace Armstrong. And how many QB's would hang onto a football when their arm is in throwing motion and a huge defender dives helmet first into your arm?? Sorry, but that was no cheesy Bledsoe fumble. Look to Moulds & Reed for the loss that day.
  8. Why don't you open up your refrigerator, and get some cheese for your whine.
  9. I hope Edwards isn't risking further permanent damage. I like how Edwards played last year, plus anyone that sacks Brady gets a big thumbs up by me (especially in the playoffs). Edwards wasn't signed to a long-term deal, so he's basically a stop gap until our new rookies can develop and eventually take over the position.
  10. Look at 2 Superbowl winning teams with great defenses, the 1985 Bears & the 2000 Ravens. Neither offense was stellar or had a great QB. McMahon was a good QB, but not great. Dilfer was a serviceable QB at best and all he had to do was make 2 to 3 key plays a game to win it for the Ravens. So with teams like that (and I compare the Bills teams of 98 & 99 to them), we didn't need a great offense, just a good enough one to win, and Ralph screwed it up by pulling the plug on Flutie right before the playoffs. It's over with now, let's move on.
  11. Like I said, it was the wrong decision at the wrong time. If you stick with one QB throughout the course of the entire season, then you stick with him in the playoffs. If Flutie played and lost that game to the Titans (IMO, I think Flutie would have won), then fans could have accepted that since Flutie was the starting QB all season long. That's what stings about that playoff loss the most, was replacing a QB with a winning record who played all season long with a guy who at that time "had potential" to be a good QB, in the most important game of the season. I ranked that as the 2nd worst decision in Bills history (with firing Bill Polian as #1).
  12. Ask Wade Phillips that question now: "Wade Phillips' quote from the Top 10 quarterback controveries: "In hindsight, Doug would have won us the game." That's coming from the coach that pulled Flutie for Johnson." It was the wrong decision at the wrong time. If Flutie was struggling so bad and Phillips wanted a bigger spark on offense, he should have made the QB switch no later than week 10 and not wait until the playoffs to do so. In the first half of the game vs the Titans, there were a ton of false start penalties due to the O-line not being used to Johnson's signal calls. The false start penalties backed up the Bills deep into their own endzone and ultimately, Robosack was sacked for a safety. Robosack played good on the final drive of the game and that's it, he sucked the rest of the game.
  13. It was the wrong decision at the wrong time. Robosack played good on the final drive of the game and that's it, he sucked the rest of the game. With boneheaded decisions like that, that's why Phillips has bounced around the league and has never made it deep into the playoffs.
  14. The only stat that matters is in the Win/Loss column. Flutie was 21-10, Johnson was 8-18.
  15. Mike, arguing with this clown is like arguing with the wall. Anyone that expects the Bills to fill every single hole in one offseason is clueless. Bottom line, once the season is finished and we see all the differences from this year compared to last year, then we can finally gauge where this team is going. If you like it great, if not, go down to your local grocery store, buy a box of straws, take one and suck it up!!! My prediction for the year is anywhere between 8-8 & 9-7. It will be nice to see no more deferring kicks, no more bend-don't-break Tampon 2 defense, no more "It's hard to win in the NFL". I'm so glad Skeletor is no longer coaching this team.
  16. It's funny that no one even mentions Reed's childish antics. So the Bills go from 1st and goal at goaline in which they would have had 4 tries to make it less than a yard into the endzone, instead they get backed up to the 15 yard line and have to setlle for a FG, good job Reed
  17. To add to that, I like Rich Eisen at the end of that show laughing in disbelief saying "Rob Johnson was in a quarterback controversy?!"
  18. Defense wins championships, that's an undeniable fact. When you have the #30 ranked run defense, you have to fix it. The plan is to have Troup play on run plays and Williams on passing downs. How do you know Wang won't be a good LT? Look at Peters, an UDFA Tight End who became a LT. The offense was a huge dysfunctional mess and Jauron was to blame for all of it. He didn't have the team prepared and led the league 2 out of 3 years in injuries. With better S&C coaches, the injuries will be significantly less and these guys will be able to stay on the field to build some chemistry together. I like that Gailey plans to build his offense to the strength of his players, and not try and force them into something that isn't going to work (like the no-huddle offense). Nobody knows the Bills or Ralph's future, nobody. So why worry about it now. Is the world going to come to an end on Dec 21, 2012? Are you going to worry yourself to death about it?
  19. Mike, obviously this muggins guy is upset that Nix & Gailey didn't pick the players he wanted them to pick. Nevermind that our run defense was a sieve. I guess the Bills were suppose to stick with 220-230 pound LB's and 240 pound DE's that can't get the job done. I guess the Bills we suppose to continue to let teams run all over them like the Jets did when they rushed for over 300 yards against us (and 3 other teams rushed for over 200 yards). But hey, Ralph is suppose to be like Dan Synder and dump huge amounts of money on players just to fix all the problems in one season. Totally unreasonable expectations.
  20. So you have no problem with Lynch's antics? You have no worries that he won't get in trouble again? Yes, Jackson & Lynch are 2 good RB's, but they're not elite. If Spiller turns out to be an elite RB and produces on a level similiar to LT did in SD (during the Marty years) then the pick made all the sense in the world. Did picking Jairus Byrd in the 2nd round make any sense at that time last year when every year under Jauron, the Bills drafted 4-5 DB's a year? At that time, it made no sense, but we all saw during the course of the season why the Bills drafted Byrd. Nix said he only liked 2 OT's in the draft and wasn't going to reach for one if those two were gone by the ninth pick. QB's, any QB in the league would have sucked under the conditions last year. What QB did well under Jauron anywhere he coached? Please, name me one? The Bills haven't even played a game under the new coaching regime and you're already acting like we're gonna be anywhere from 2-14 to 4-12. If that's how you feel, then why even bother posting on here? Why support a team that doesn't live up to your expectations?
  21. two 1,000 yard backs? Lynch had 450 yards last season, put down the crack pipe already. From Mike Oxhurtz: "Let's look at the Bills 2 starting RB's: Lynch, is one problem away from being suspended for a whole season. While Lynch is a bruising RB that keeps his feet moving upon initial contact and is a good red zone threat, he has a poor field of vision which is evident by Lynch constantly running into the back of his linemen. His biggest problem already stated, has been his run-ins with the law, one more time and he will be likely suspended anywhere from 8-16 games by Roger Goodell. Jackson, a feel good story here, a Division III guy that busted his butt to make it to the NFL. Jackson is very good in open field (between the 20's) and is a very good receiving option. Downsides, he's 29 and he's not a good red zone threat. In 2008 he had 3 rushing TD's, in 2009 he had 2 rushing TD's and 2 receiving TD's. With the comparsions of Spiller to Chris Johnson already, I think it was a great move to get Spiller now. Jackson will not be around in 5 years (due to age) and I expect Lynch to be out of here as well. I'm not saying Spiller is going to have the same production as Johnson, but if he comes close, that will be much more production than the Bills could get from Lynch & Jackson." I agree with this 100%
  22. He drafted some RB named Tomlinson in the first round. I don't know, how did LT do in SD? (sarcasm)
  23. I understand why Nix & Gailey are giving the 3 QB's and the O-line a chance this year. Last year, Jauron wanted a dulled down, pop-warner type offense, Schonert & Langston Walker get fired 10 days before the start of the season and the QB coach was thrown in 10 days before the start of the season as the Offensive Coordinator. That's not to say that these guys get a free pass, but they are given some leeway given the circumstances of last year. I looked back at Butler/Smith/Nix's first draft in SD and they drafted an OT in the 5th & 7th rounds as well, so it looks like Nix is following that pattern. If Nix can duplicate that success in SD here in Buffalo, then a lot of fans will be very happy.
  24. http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/03/16/w...rs-are-quality/ http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/03/17/e...felt-in-b-more/ The articles speak for themselves. There are some good analysts on Sirius radio, but just like most football announcers, they bash Buffalo because Buffalo has been bad for 10 years and didn't fill (in their minds) the 2 biggest holes in the draft (LT & QB). I like that Nix & Gailey are bringing in a ton of people to compete for jobs, that will make everyone work harder. How many times did we see Jauron play the wrong guy and it took injury for the better player to get on the field? I like the new approach.
  25. Sanchez threw for 182 yards and 1 TD in the Wild Card game, wow, he really lit up the Bengals. It was more like the Jets have a great defense. So Dwan Edwards and Andra Davis are chumps? What FA did we pick up from the Chiefs? Since you're a Jets & Dolphins fan, why don't you back to their sites and stay on there since you're in love with both teams.
