But we're talking about a job that takes 21 year old kids, many of whom sadly grew up in poverty, and suddenly give them millions. That's a lot of responsibility to impose on someone so young who grew up with so little. The male brain does not fully mature until 25. The rookie symposium only does so much. Too many of these kids mis-manage their money and wind up broke and in debt two years after they retire. Their friends and other outside influences bring them down. You don't have to look too hard for examples. You don't want to give millions to someone who is going to wind up in jail for killing dogs, raping women, trafficking in cocaine. You don't want to give millions to young men who are going to travel in entourages to strip clubs while packing hand guns in their waist bands. There have been too many arrests and too many tragedies. Sean Taylor is dead. Darrent Williams is dead. Chris Henry is dead. Plaxico Burress was shot. Joey Porter was shot. Travis Henry is in jail. Michael Vick was in jail. There are certain character traits and concerns that raise red flags. Some of these talented young men are more pre-disposed to these unfortunate circumstances. Teams want to make smart and safe investments. No one really knows the context in which the question was asked. It could've been offensive and it could've been a behavioural/psychological/maturity based question. It's the ugly side of the business.

$40 CJ Spiller jerseys
lets_go_bills replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll stick with paying normal price for a legit Reebok replica from The Bills Store. It's not illegal and it actually supports our team. -
Please grade our draft Tim. I give it a B-

I would sooner draw comparisons between Spiller and Chris Johnson, not Purple Jesus.

Bills still interested in Jared Gaither
lets_go_bills replied to toddgurley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Gaither is as lazy as they say, I don't want him. He's in a contract year. He'll play his arse off and then hold out for a mega deal. This has Jason Peters 2.0 written all over it. -
JaMarcus Russel about to be cut
lets_go_bills replied to toddgurley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he's the biggest bust in sports history. The guy had an amazing pro day. Almost godly and the football world in awe of his raw ability. He has the strongest arm of all time. He was the top prospect and played the most important position in sports. Everyone drooled over him. He went number one overall. He had a long holdout before being paid a disgusting amount of money (oh how I long for a rookie pay scale). And then the rest, as they say, is history. He was so bad on the field. The truth came out. He was fat, lazy and didn't give a damn about football. He didn't want to put in the work and didn't try or care. Now he's going to be release ad will fade into obscurity. He will be talked about for years to come as the biggest bust of all time. He's that bad. -
Yes it is. There are plenty of different behavioural and psychological questions/interviews. Why would they ask him that if it wasn't? Bryant has been marred with controversey throughout the entire draft process. And questions about his attitude, maturity and character have run rampant. And even if it wasn't a behavioural or psychological question, if a GM is deciding whether or not to spend a valuable high pick, potentially wager his employment with the team and hand over millions of dollars to a player, they can ask whatever they want so long as it isn't some kind of human rights violation. And this isn't. I stand firm in my belief that this question was asked of Bryant to gauge his reaction and see how he handled/responded to it. But I digress, let's just agree to disagree.

JaMarcus Russel about to be cut
lets_go_bills replied to toddgurley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While there's usually one or two people who make a case to sign every single player released, I think this is one guy who nobody will want. Then again, I could be wrong. Russell is the biggest bust of all time. Bigger than Leaf. -
Like I said, this question had absolutely nothing to do with his mom or her profession. It was not meant to offend . It was a test to see how he would react to the question. It's a behavioural interview. I can't stress that enough. Behavioural. And with millions of dollars at stake, they can ask all the questions they want. Nobody held a gun to his head, he could've got up and left if he wanted to. The question was an attitude test and a maturity test. And Dez failed. Read my second post in this thread. It was a pysch/behavioural/maturity test. It had nothing to do with his mother or her profession. Read my second post in this thread.

That's your opinion. There are literally millions of different jobs out there. They all have different requirements, different things at stake. These questions are not as direct, not as black and white as you might think. They are as much about seeing how one reacts to the questions. To they get defensive and their back up against the wall? It shows that they may crack under pressure. They also help analyze one's psychological tendencies. There are numerous jobs that require you to write a psych test. The questions are odd, sometimes seem ridiculous and even offensive. They may also seem irrelevent to the job. But they are relevant. One's answers are calculated and grouped into catergories that allow potential employers to gauge one's suitability for a job. They can help preict if someone is prone to anger issues, depression, trust issues, etc. It's not what's on the surface of the question, trust me. You can google these psych tests. The questions range from things like: "Do you love your father?" "Does the presence of blood gross you out?" "Would you prefer the work of a florist or mechanic?" "Have you ever engaged in beastiality?" "Would you rather go for a run or read a book?" This interview is a pysch test, not a stab at his family. Not a slight against him, nor meant to insult or offend. It was to gauge his response in terms of how he responded, his body lanuage, tone, diction, kinesics, etc. They wanted to see how he reacted to being asked this question. They could care less about his actually answer. It was a maturity test and it would appear that Dez failed it. To be blunt, you're wrong. Don't take this as an attack on you, but you've misunderstood what this interview's intentions were.

The draft process is all about scrutiny. Heavy, heavy, under the microscope, all skeletons out of the closet, scrutiny. If a team is considering investing a valuable draft pick and several millions of dollars in you, they can ask whatever the hell they want. No one says you have to agree to the interview, no one is making you attend, no one is making you answer. Offensive? Yes. But these teams are dotting all their "i's" and crossing all their "t's". They want to make the best investment they can. They don't want a player they pick to wash out or wind up suspended. They want him to have a long, productive and exciting career. It's the dirty side of the business, but it's a necessary evil.

Will we ever find out who the Bills
lets_go_bills replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was a rumor posted, can't remember which site but I think it was PFT, that the Bills were attempting to trade up for Dan Williams. -
Great article on draft grades.....
lets_go_bills replied to BillsfaninSixburgh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a bad read. He's defensive about our picks and he has a point. "Rome wasn't built in a day." If the Bills passed on Clausen twice and McCoy thrice, that should say something about the kind of prospects the Bills though they were. Time will tell if we're right or wrong. But the bottom line is we made this team a little better. -

The Northern View - Bills, eh?
lets_go_bills replied to Soulfly3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post! I too come from Canada and fully support the Buffalo Bills. I also share your optimism and excitement. We're on the up and up and with two more good drafts, we can be a playoff contender. -
Six young Bills poised to break out...
lets_go_bills replied to RyanW2279's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He might stick because we need depth. But he's too small to be a full-timer on offense and with McKelvin's healthy return, Jackson's abilities and the addition of Spiller, he's not likely to be returning kicks neither. He may wind up camp fodder or just get burried in the depth chart. -
Danny Batten - Playmaker

Terrell Owens? -
I'm not talking about having a conservative offensive game plan. But Gailey said this was going to be a run first offense. Right now, this team's strength on offense is the run game. Run blocking is easier then pass blocking and it's a well known fact that O lineman love to run block. Teams will stack up against the run until we can prove we have a respectable air attack but the problem is aside from Evans, who can catch the ball? Someone has to emerge because Evans can and will be shut down by constant double teams. No one said anything about trap plays. Gailey will run a different offense than Jauron. It's not as simple as run or pass. It's the kind of plays you call and the blocking scheme you utilize. CJ Spiller has a chance to be a Marshall Faulk/Chris Johnson type of player. That can do wonders for your offense. The Titans do not have any WRs, yet they manage a successful ground game. You cater your offense to your strengths, and ours happens to be the ground game.

I'm optimistic. But it's not easy when you're currently experiencing a ten year playoff drought and a revolving door of ho-hum coaches and front office personnel. Bills fans are super passionate about their team and just want to win. The losing wears you thin. Tests your patience and loyalty. I'll always support and love the Buffalo Bills. As much as we B word and moan, as much as we argue and disagree, we can all agree on one thing: we want the Buffalo Bills to succeed. Period.

There will be no Bill's QB controversy this year...
lets_go_bills replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We won't carry four QBs on the final 53 man roster. One of them will be the odd man out. Probably Brohm unless he shows something in camp. And if he does then Fitz will be released. Or Brown will be assigned to the practice squad. -
I would have to agree with you sir. And I'll add to the points you made. 1. Not to make excuses but playing for Dick Jauron, not to mention two first first time OCs is not an ideal situation. The OL hasn't done a good job of keeping Trent vertical. He's taken some hard shots back there. Gailey is supposed to be the best offensive mind we've had around here in a long time and he has a reputation for getting solid production from his QBs. This bodes well for us. This year's QB class was quite weak and this was proven by how few QBs were drafted and what rounds they went in. 2. A run first time is always a good idea. You run to set up the pass. You run to keep defenses honest. You run to grind and wear down defenses. You run to eat clock. You run to get 1st downs. You run in goal line situations. You run to rest your defense and keep them fresh. If this line can run block effectively, we will pound teams all year long. We have a scary three headed monster in that backfield and they all bring something to the table. 3. You could tell Buffalo was fully committed to strengthening the front seven, especially the DL. You only have so many draft picks and can address only so many needs. I credit Nix for knowing how important it is to have quality players in the trenches. He identified the D line as a weakness and the secondary as a strength. The reason why we had a poor run defense was because of a poor D line. Not to mention we're transitioning to a new defensive scheme. We go bigger and stronger on the D line and I love it. So while QB and LT went unaddressed, it was fairly obvious to see that while certainly a deep draft class, it was rather weak at QB and LT. And if these two positions are still needs next year, you can rest assured they will be addressed early on. This is only the start of a rebuilding effort. Year one of a new regime and it's off to a good start IMO. We have the makings of a team that can run and stop the run. That's a recipe for success. There's still much work to be done and pieces to be added, but one thing at a time and we're moving in the right direction. We're getting better, not worse.

More good News about Big Ben...
lets_go_bills replied to KOKBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is like the Tiger Woods drama. One person comes forward and reveals what a bag of douche the person really is. It blows up in the athlete's face and has a snowball effect, with more and more people coming forward, lending credibility to the accusations of the athlete's douch-bag-ery. Congrats Big Ben, the whole world now knows who you really are and you've successfully managed to tarnish your legacy and alienate yourself from everyone. -
Six young Bills poised to break out...
lets_go_bills replied to RyanW2279's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read this yesterday. Not a bad read. I think the only Bill truly poised for a break out season is Andy Levitre. He's been awesome and steadily improved each game. He's the next Ruben Brown. A Pro Bowl LG who we'll have on our line for ten years and not have to worry about. -
No one will ever be happy. Human beings in general B word and moan about everything. Bills fans are no different. There's no winning. As for the draft, you can't grade drafts for at least three years. I don't know why they do it right after the draft. Drafting is like gambling. It's a game of chance. You win some you lose some. Drafting is not a science. There have been "can't miss prospects" who have busted. Conversely, there have been UDFAs who were passed over 255 times and became stars in this league. If we held the first ten picks in a draft and selected the top ten players, at least ten people on here would complain about at least one of the players we picked and be disappointed about the draft.
