It was done in tandem with mutual security, the sharing of data about citizens sensitive data. It was done with private and government investment in schools, training, sharing, and cross border professional movement. Without these efforts Kentucky would not have an auto industry, nor would Carolina, and Texas. Then without discussion, without consideration, and with great malice, the prez and his honchos violated the trust of the signature of the prez , his own actual signature, violated the trust of an entire nation he represents and without cause. We and the world now know, don't trust the US or its people, or it's businesses. Money is the result of business, but trust is the real currency. That will be the lesson.

Prior to Nafta there was a deal called the autopac to balance production and sales of vehicles between Canada and US. If 10% of sales were in Canada, 10% of vehicles by dollar must be built in Canada. Then Nafta which gave Mexico the advantage as quotas disappeared because vehicles were becoming too costly as a result of the hold on companies by unions in US and Canada. Wages in Mexico dropped prices and increased big 3 profits. Other industries followed. Canada lost more jobs proportionate to US. Then trump signed Nafta #2 USMCA, now he violates it. If nothing else he proves to be untrustworthy. Factories will return to US, Canadians will buy 3only Canadian and Japanese and Korean and Euro cars. US will lose 10% of sales opportunities between the countries, unions will have control, costs will quickly rise. By 2030 US produced vehicles will cost 20% more without tariffs and sales will be 10% less in NA, and 50% less in the rest of the world. We have been here before. The wheel is being reinvented. There was a time, not so long ago, that if any politician hinted at messing around with SS there would be an amazing reaction.
