  4. D-line coach replacement candidate? By Chris Brown - Posted January 21st, 2009 After doing some digging I haven’t found too many defensive line or assistant defensive line coaches currently working in the league with connections to members of Buffalo’s staff. One that I did find was Oakland defensive tackles coach Don Johnson. Johnson worked with Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell in Chicago in 2005, where he coached the defensive line with great success. Tommie Harris made the Pro Bowl (2005) during Johnson’s time with the Bears and then rookie Mark Anderson had 12 sacks, while Adewale Ogunleye had 10 (2006). Johnson is also a New Jersey native, so coming back east closer to his roots could also be a positive. I’m not saying I know he’s a candidate for the job, but in light of the unstable coaching situation in Oakland, the fact that a defensive line job would be a step up from his current position and that he’d be working under a coordinator with whom he’s worked before, it’s not unreasonable to think he’d at least be a candidate to replace Bill Kollar. 5. Jackson in line for multi-year deal? By Chris Brown - Posted January 21st, 2009 Buffalobills.com reported earlier this month that Fred Jackson would be open to a contract extension despite being just an exclusive rights free agent. According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, who spoke with Jackson more recently, the Bills are apparently on the same page with the versatile back. Jackson told the Iowa paper that covered his college career the following. “It’s just the business of the game,” Jackson said. “I’ve got to negotiate a contract coming up, so we’ll see what happens with that. I’m pretty sure I’ll be back in Buffalo. We’ve talked to them already. They want to do some things to kind of keep me there, and I want to be there.” Jackson was one of the bright spots for Buffalo’s offense in 2008 and indicated to Buffalobills.com that his role may increase further in 2009, which would make a long term deal the logical next step. Jackson is very popular among Bills fans so hopefully such an agreement can be reached this offseason. Tags: Fred Jackson

  11. Kollar reportedly leaving to coach Texans By Chris Brown - Posted January 20th, 2009 The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Bills defensive line coach Bill Kollar is leaving Buffalo to coach the Texans. Kollar was the second candidate interviewed for the position. The first was former Lions head coach Rod Marinelli. Several members of Houston’s defensive staff were let go at season’s end. The Bills have not yet confirmed the move, but if accurate it appears to be a lateral move, which would mean the Bills let Kollar leave. Kollar is the second assistant to depart from Jauron’s original staff, joining former offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild, who left to be the head coach at Colorado State following the 2007 season. 13. Toomer for a year? By Chris Brown - Posted January 14th, 2009 Just a thought here knowing full well that the Bills under Dick Jauron typically do not go after free agents on the back side of their careers. But in light of what James Hardy will be facing with his rehab from a torn ACL and all the time he will miss, Amani Toomer might not be a terrible stop gap option for 2009. I know he’ll be 35 when next season starts, but he’s a reliable veteran wideout that’s 6′3″ and can still make plays in the red zone. He would mesh well with the character players in the locker room and would be a player that opposing defenses would have to respect inside the 20-yard line. And he should be affordable. Sure there are better receivers out there in the free agent market, but after the team forked over big money to retain Lee Evans, players like T.J. Houshmanzadeh are unrealistic as I see it. The Bills can’t afford two Lee Evans at receiver and Housh will cost as much if not more than Evans on the open market if he gets there. The Bills have been relatively successful in the past with veteran pickups at WR like Bill Brooks and Quinn Early. I’d just like to see a vet that’s been there and done that. I know Toomer isn’t a major game breaker anymore, but I think he’s dependable and capable of making enough plays to make this offense better. Again just for 2009. 16. Leftwich suitors lining up By Chris Brown - Posted January 12th, 2009 Looks like the teams interested in soon to be free agent QB Byron Leftwich are already lining up as the Chicago Bears figure to be one team that’s interested and they may even offer him an opportunity to compete for the starting job, as their GM Jerry Angelo called QB their #1 offseason priority. I’ve said in a couple of different places that he’s probably the best backup option on the market for the Bills this offseason, who will be in the market for a #2 QB with the anticipated departure of J.P. Losman. But I can’t see the Bills giving Leftwich or any other backup QB candidate the promise that they’ll compete for the starting job, with Trent Edwards entrenched in that role. So a player like Leftwich, who wants to start in the league again, will likely look for better opportunities to start elsewhere, thereby lessening the chances of Buffalo signing a backup of his caliber. It’s unclear at this time if Buffalo is even interested in Leftwich, but he’s certainly had a promising season in the times he’s been called upon to step in for Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh. 19. I Garuntee they will keep him as a 4th DE he would be a great 4th if everyonre else is healthy draft a good DE to put in at the 3rd DE spot.
  20. Lol im hearing Mortensen say Bill Callahan is a frontrunner for Jets job.
  21. They have to put something on the website and he was the best DE this year.
  22. Eric Mangini named browns Head Coach
  23. McShay has Bills taking TE By Chris Brown - Posted January 6th, 2009 For what it’s worth (knowing this will likely change 50 times) ESPN’s Todd McShay has the Bills taking Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham with the 11th pick in his mock draft. Personally I’d like to see a pass rushing DE. Gresham has impressive numbers as is the case with just about every skill position offensive player for Oklahoma this year with 58 catches for 888 yards and 12 TDs. He’s 6′5″ 266. He’s got good all-around talent with long arms and soft hands. So he’s an interesting prospect, but again I’d like to see the Bills address the pass rush first.
