  5. New Chiefs regime angers Pro BowlerViews 1450 Comments 16 07:04 AM ET 02.27 Share Print It My T&R Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters asked the organization Thursday to release or trade him this offseason, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Waters asked for his release two days after a brief meeting with new head coach Todd Haley and after being told by first-time general manager Scott Pioli that he had no interest in meeting with Waters, the source said. Waters, according to the source, was offended and shocked by what he perceived to be the arrogance of Haley and Pioli. Waters' meeting with Haley and follow-up phone conversations confirmed in the nine-year vet's mind that the negative reports about Haley he heard from Arizona Cardinals players while at the Pro Bowl were accurate, according to the source. The Cardinals players told Waters and tight end Tony Gonzalez that Haley, Arizona's offensive coordinator, was aloof, condescending and ignored by veterans, the source said. Anquan Boldin, Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald Jr. -- Arizona's offensive stars -- were all members of the NFC Pro Bowl team. Kansas City Star > Comment
  6. Hamdan and Fox re-signed By Chris Brown - Posted February 26th, 2009 For those that chose not to read the whole writeup on the RFAs, Gibran Hamdan was re-signed to a new contract as was fellow restricted free agent Dustin Fox. Both signed right before the deadline allowing the Bills to avoid putting a restricted tender on them. I don’t have the contract numbers, but presumably Hamdan and Fox signed for less per season than the minimum tender $1.01M. Tags: Dustin Fox, Gibran Hamdan
  7. Kendell Simmons the guard Released by pittsburgh would rather have him.

  10. Bills free up cap space by releasing Dockery Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Buffalo Bills, Derrick Dockery Two years after Buffalo made Derrick Dockery the highest-paid guard in the game, the Bills released him Thursday. In 2007, Buffalo awarded Dockery a seven-year, $49 million contract. Two years later, he is out of work. The Bills will have to accelerate $5.4 million against their cap, but a big contract is off their books. And Dockery is on the market. I THINK THIS IS A BAD MOVE AND A MOVE TO HAVE FRED TAYLOR SIGNED BY END OF THE DAY.
  11. Coles to Miami? By Chris Brown - Posted February 26th, 2009 With Laveranues Coles to be a free agent and knowing he’s tight with Chad Pennington, you have to believe that the Dolphins are at least going to lob a call into Coles to see what he’s looking for by way of a contract. For those that don’t remember Coles was the guy that was sulking when the Jets cut Pennington and replaced him with Favre. So it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Coles head south, remembering that the guy is a Florida native (born in Jacksonville) and played his college ball at Florida State. 13. Adam Schefter Looking for cap room, Texans will release DE Weaver Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Anthony Weaver, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, New York Jets As the Friday beginning of the new league year creeps closer, teams are creating more and more salary-cap room. Just days after cutting RB Ahman Green and LB Morlon Greenwood, the Texans will release DE Anthony Weaver on Tuesday. His $6.2 million base salary will come off the Texans’ salary cap, but they still must deal with $5.4 million in acceleration on his contract — a total savings of $800,000. Once Weaver is released, it will not be long before he finds another job. Jets coach Rex Ryan coached Weaver in Baltimore and could sign him for New York, or the Ravens always could try to bring him back.
  14. just so you know it comes out march 6th next friday
  15. QB Frerotte could be available By Chris Brown - Posted February 23rd, 2009 With the report out that a trade is imminent between Houston and Minnesota, which would ship QB Sage Rosenfels to the Vikings, one would have to think that Gus Frerotte could be released. Frerotte would be a good fit as a veteran backup in Buffalo. Two members of Buffalo’s organization said at the NFL Combine that a veteran QB would be a preference as a backup to starter Trent Edwards. Tags: Gus Frerotte, Sage Rosenfels

  17. Adam Schefter Redskins release Pro Bowl LB Washington Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Marcus Washington, Washington Redskins This is the time of year when big-money contracts are handed out — and also taken away. At one time Redskins former Pro Bowl linebacker Marcus Washington was the recipient of a six-year, $24 million contract. But now it is being torn up. Looking to create more room under the salary cap, the Redskins cut the 31-year-old Washington on Friday. Releasing Washington freed up $4.5 million against the Redskins salary cap. Washington was scheduled to carry a $6.52 million salary-cap figure for next season. Now, while looking at all the players at this weekend’s combine in Indianapolis, the Redskins also can take an extra long hard look at linebackers. They could use another one to help fill the void that Washington’s release created.
  18. Adam Schefter Jets release TE Baker Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter Last April the Jets drafted a starting tight end. Now they are releasing one. The Jets have decided to cut tight end Chris Baker rather than paying him the $9 million roster bonus due March 5. But just because the Jets are releasing Baker now doesn’t mean he will not return to the team. The Jets would like to re-sign him, and Baker would welcome the idea of returning to the team. But before he does, he will test the market, see what other teams are offering and then make his decision. But the Jets have made theirs - they are releasing Baker
  19. I know he came off an injury last year but if he cant have a decent year with the best QB in the league whipping balls around then hes not good anymore no thank u.
  20. Colts Hayden signing means big $$ for Greer By Chris Brown - Posted February 19th, 2009 With the Colts re-signing impending free agent CB Kelvin Hayden to a deal that averages more than $8M per season, things are looking awfully good for Bills free agent to be Jabari Greer. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter is reporting it to be a 5-year deal worth $43.5M with a huge $22.5M guaranteed. Prior to the offseason the Giants signed CB Corey Webster to a similar deal (5-$43.5M-$20M guaranteed). Just looking at the career stats of all three players they’re comparable. Hayden (27 starts, 6 INTs), Greer (26 starts, 4 INTs), Webster (31 starts, 5 INTs). Much like I indicated after the Webster signing in December, Greer could very well be looking at close to $8M per season. Tags: Corey Webster, Jabari Greer, Kelvin Hayden
  21. Harrison’s Indy days are done Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Indianapolis Colts, Marvin Harrison Everyone keeps focusing on WR Terrell Owens‘ future with the Cowboys. But the more pressing issues surround Colts WR Marvin Harrison. It’s no longer a question of if Harrison, 36, will be let go. It has become a question of when. It will happen in the coming days, certainly before the new league year starts a week from Friday, but few are sure exactly when. But make no mistake: It is happening. The Colts no longer can afford to carry Harrison, who is scheduled to have a $13.4 million number for an Indianapolis team that is starving for more salary-cap room to deal with free-agents-to-be such as CB Kelvin Hayden. If the Colts were to release Harrison, his $13.4 million number instantly would come off the books, saving the team $7 million against the cap. Harrison still would count $6.4 million in dead money, but more importantly, there would be the $7 million savings. Plus, the Colts have been bracing for this day, drafting Anthony Gonzalez in the first round and grooming young WRs Roy Hall and Pierre Garcon. The Colts’ first-round draft pick in 1996, Harrison will finish his Indianapolis career with 1,102 catches for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns. It was a great career. The last chapter soon will be written
