  1. Freddy vs. Jason was the first and only time I've asked for my money back at the theater. The kids were talking, running around, crying, etc. I told the manager that kids shouldn't be allowed in, and he claimed his hands are tied because the parents brought them in.
  2. We had a bad storm last night, but at least the insect population should be low this summer... (seriously though: they really need a proof reader...). http://www.hudsonsta...wned-many-trees
  3. I saw Freddy vs. Jason years ago -- and there were a bunch of 5-6 year old kids in the theater. Great parenting.
  4. Bingo. While I was in the middle of the interview process for my current job, I went to my former boss and said, "You know, I love doing what I'm doing here, but I'm ready for more responsibility. I'd like to work on this specific project or take on a greater role in general. What do you think?" He responded that he agreed I could do more for the company, but that he didn't have anything available for me to move into at that time. A month later, I received an offer from the job I'm at now and turned in my notice. A couple of months after that, the company I was at had a big round of layoffs - which I'm sure is why my former boss couldn't do anything at that time. But professionally, it was a great move for me, even though the overall compensation was roughly the same.
  5. If you turn in your notice, your boss says, "We'll give you $5k to stay," and you accept, what does that tell him? It says that you're a mercenary and are going to go wherever the dollars are highest and that the job itself doesn't matter. If it did, you would've come to him sooner and said, "You know, I love working here, but I think my value is $X." It also means that the manager is probably going to put you lower on the totem pole, knowing that you're more likely to leave than your coworkers - so why invest as much in training? And if there's a layoff coming up, why would I put the "loyal" people on the list, when I know you've already been looking and accepted an offer. Here's a good article that covers these points and more. http://www.recruitingblogs.com/profiles/blogs/why-you-should-never-accept-a-counter-offer
  6. I've caught myself doing 95 a few times in my old '99 Toyota Camry. Didn't feel like it was that fast, and when I noticed, I quickly reduced the speed and put the cruise control on. Looks like I'm the slow poke in the group though.
  7. I doubt this will help Sony at all, actually. In a few months nobody will even remember this (people have short memories...).
  8. Exactly. You should NEVER stop looking for a new job. There's absolutely no harm in doing an in-person interview. Do it, learn more about the company and the role, and see if you like it. If so, take it. If not, stay where you're at. One word of advice that you can take or leave: NEVER NEVER NEVER take a counter-offer from your current employer. Those were words of wisdom imparted to me early on in my career, and it makes sense. You can ask for more money/responsibility/whatever BEFORE you turn in your notice, but once you turn it in, you've made up your mind so don't change course.
  9. They were pushing the envelope on features, but are instead rolling back to doing the same thing the current console does, only with prettier graphics. The ability to share your games with family members sounded awesome (from the little details we had). The ability to play games without putting a disk in was also very cool. Now, although there will be digital distribution available, the cool features that came with it will be gone. People saw "DRM" and screamed, not realizing that current consoles have DRM as well.... I'm sure the Xbox One will still be a good console, but I think some of the features they were trying to push through would've made it better. They did a crap job of explaining the benefits though -- bad PR team.
  10. And the actual MS link: http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update
  11. No, PS3 games won't work on the PS4. Xbox 360 games won't work on the Xbox One either.
  12. If you're paying $60, you're doing it wrong.
  13. You mean the same company that, in order to "protect" their music, installed a root kit on everyone's PC? It's not firmware, it's just software. And Major Nelson actually said they weren't going to leave people high and dry after 10 years: http://www.neowin.net/news/banned-xbox-live-users-will-still-be-able-to-play-their-xbox-one-games There's a lot to complain about - they've screwed the PR - but there's a lot of false information out there too.
  14. I disagree. You can't "lose" the console battle before it's even started. Even more importantly, there doesn't have to be a "winner" and a "loser." Did the PS3 "lose" to the Xbox 360 this generation? The 360 sold more units, but I think they both did fine. The same will happen this time around. This isn't like the HD /Blu-Ray battle where you knew they couldn't both win. All of this IMHO, of course. Regarding bricking the system after 10 years, banned users getting screwed, etc, etc: http://www.neowin.ne...-xbox-one-games
  15. I actually just wrote an article about this. People who use cellphones have no right to complain about the Kinect, IMHO. http://www.neowin.ne...s-spying-on-you Many will disagree (and I don't agree with 100% conviction on what I wrote, but do with the basic premise)
  16. Yeah - at first I thought it meant you had to cut the pages a certain way to open them, but I'm not sure...

  18. Cool story. I have a similar one: Several years ago, somebody broke into my grandmother's house in Niagara Falls (near 20th Street - if you know the area, it's now a cesspool ). She was in the mid-70s at the time and was in her backyard gardening when the guy slipped in. She happened to go in the house while he was there, saw him, so grabbed a knife from the kitchen, and cornered him. The punk threw something at her that hit her in the head (nothing serious), and she responded by stabbing him with the knife! He pushed her down and ran out the door bleeding. The police picked him up a few blocks away. My grandmother was pissed because the police took the knife as evidence; it was her favorite knife.
  19. See, I don't have a problem with that -- they have contracts with the bottled water company, for example. Lots of places don't allow you to bring your own food/drink. But the bag ban goes far beyond that. I've been to Green Bay in December -- those aluminum benches are freaking cold!! But no seat cushions allowed now.
  20. That confuses me -- they say they can output videos/pictures in 4k, but not games. Huh? if the Xbox One can, why can't the PS4? It has to be a firmware/software update to enable it I'd think...
  21. Who was Snowden supposed to go to when the "chairman" of the NSA is the one ordering this stuff?
  22. I'm trying to figure out why the woman who blew the whistle on Enron is looked at as a hero, but this guy is a traitor (by many)... Isn't it pretty much the same thing? Enron had confidential documents that were released, NSA had top secret documents. Why does the government get to hide things that are illegal (NSA isn't supposed to be collecting data on American citizens), but companies aren't supposed to?
  23. "or just sunning on a chair." -- Umm, I thought this was in Alaska? "850 SD/850 rent Available 7/1/2012" -- First, I assume that should be 2013? But what's "850 SD?" "woods up the dead end road.." -- Maybe it's just me, but I read that to mean that there's dead people in the woods at first. There's some typographical errors too - not sure if those matter on Craigslist.
  24. You can resell games, but it's limited - and no details yet. Sounds like eBay sales, for example, are out. But remember, it's no different than Steam. (which means they should offer great deals like Steam... Otherwise, I'll agree that the whole thing sucks. ) Here's some info - although I don't think it answers your question. http://www.neowin.ne...box-ones-kinect http://www.neowin.ne...nd-kinect-demos
