  1. Oh yeah, I forgot about that! I actually have that DVD, and remember glancing at the comic before the movie, but never looked at it again. I should dig that up again. So something like this is what I'd be looking for? http://www.amazon.com/Millers-Complete-Lib...ie=UTF8&s=books And what's the difference between that and these ones: http://www.amazon.com/Frank-Millers-Sin-Ci...ie=UTF8&s=books http://www.amazon.com/Frank-Millers-Sin-Ci...ie=UTF8&s=books
  2. This is a couple years old. Cool to see the video though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Revell And as you said, he would've gotten that money back on the TV circuit, people feeling sorry for him, hell the casino might've even given him some/all of it back as a publicity stunt. CW

  4. Speaking of comic book adaptations, I *really* love Sin City. Watched it over the weekend (on a crappy TV, unfortunately...) and it was just as good as the first time I saw it. My father-in-law thought it was some ad for a video game. I've thought about buying the Sin City graphic novels, but havn't figured out what order to buy/'read them in, and not sure if I"d actually look at them more than once anyway.
  5. First day of class was fine. I already know most of the concepts from my job, as well as from my CS degree, so I think I'm ok. The only thing I'm worried about is that the instructor said the actual test questions (as opposed to the practice questions) are very convoluted. So we'll see... Just have to make sure I pass so that I'm not out $500!
  6. Or hell, why even bother trying to put it on the PC when I can just print a bunch of it off and leave it in your house? No fuss, no muss. Or how about putting it in your garbage can on trash day (before it's picked up) and call in an anonymous tip? Scary. CW
  7. Actually, they did get a touchback going against the wind once as well... I remember thinking it would be good field position for us, but instead the ball bounced in the endzone. It wasn't out of the EZ and was ugly getting there, but it did... CW
  8. Hm, you're more cynical than I am! I'll have to bring that up when I teach my PC Security class as a reason to password protect your own computer.
  9. Yup -and the ref looked very confident that it was a catch. No hesitation at all.
  10. I don't know how I feel about this... Seems like a slippery slope if anyone can get your house searched by anonymously pointing a video camera at a monitor then call the police and leave the tape at a church.... Do the ends justify the means? I'm not sure. CW
  11. It's available in HD-DVD as well. Havn't seen it yet, but supposed to look very good http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/vforvendetta.html
  12. Yeah, I only manage 700 UNIX servers (many of which are B2C and B2B) for a living, but have no idea what I'm talking about. Cincy - We did end up finding a highly recommended vet just down the street from us (instead of 25 miles away) to clean her teeth and remove the bad one. The cat looked drunk when we got her back - wobbled and fell over a lot from the meds. Sad and funny at the same time. (and most of the internet isn't being taken up by people researching shopping. Downloading a webpage takes hardly anything, compared to downloading programs, sending email attachments, etc, etc. Shoppers aren't clogging the internet with traffic ). CW
  13. That has absolutely nothing to do with the error messages on TBD. You may notice slower speeds on your DUN simply because more people are home for the holidays and using the same ISP. That doesn't mean the "internet" is being taken up by people shopping. Here's a tip - when you hear something about technology on TV, disregard it because 99% of the time it's wrong. Oops, forgot my rolleyes: CW
  14. You're joking, right...?
  15. Not all installers are bad, but there are a lot of them. Then there's installers like I had. When I was getting the triple-LNB dish, an installer had to come out three separate times to fish two cables from the roof through the attic, through the 2nd floor walls, through the 1st floor walls, and into the basement. They could've given up because it was a tough install, but he did a wonderful job and the only evidence of their work is another j-box at the top of the 2nd floor stairs. Oh, and they never even charged me for the install! But yes, I've heard that a lot (most?) installers suck. (they're not DirecTV installers, they're independent contractors). CW
  16. They both point to (roughly) the same place. I say it all the time, but I'd be *shocked* if you couldn't get line of sight. Most installres are just lazy and don't want to find a good place to put it. Nervous Guy is a perfect example - he had a few installers come out and say he couldn't get a signal. They never actually went on the roof to check or anything. After convincing him to call them and insist on testing, someone came out and he's had DirecTV ever since. They should be up on the roof with a signal tester to see if they can get a signal, not just eyeballing it. If you walk around my neighborhood, there's several houses that have a dish that looks like it's pointing at the roof, but they obviously are getting a signal. I should take a picture one of these days to post here. CW
  17. I thought you were talking about the Bills game on Sunday, sorry (that's what I get for not reading the thread until today )
  18. That's quite a feat, considering the game isn't being broadcast in HD... http://cbs.sportsline.com/cbssports/schedules/page/nfl CW
  19. The ruling does not allow the landlord to define exclusive use -- an exclusive use area is defined as any area that is yours and nobody else has a right to use. Patio, balcony, front stoop, etc. A landlord can put wording in a lease saying something like "patios are not exclusive use," but it doesn't matter and a simple call to the FCC is all it'll take to get a dish in a case like that (there's an 800 number to call to get help on it). They can stop you from putting a grill on your patio, but not a dish. Sorry, but federal law overrules local leases. Most landlords also put a clause in the lease that says, "We can come into your apartment at any time for any reason." Well (in Minnesota at least) that's an unenforcable clause and the landlord can be sued for $50/occurance. Just because it's in a contract/lease, doesn't mean it's the law. I know, I had to sue my landlord and I brought that up during the trial. Now the landlord CAN stop you from permenantly mounting the dish and from drilling holes into the house. But the way around that is to put a pole in a bucket of cement and attach the dish to the pole. There's also a clamp that be used to attach to a deck. This law came about because cable companies were giving kickbacks to landlords to force apartment people to sign up with cable. Most likely there's something similar going on with the "Free Time Warner" deals in the apartments. CW
  20. As I said, cable was allowed to bid in 2004, but they didn't want to pony up the money that DirecTV was: http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA480250.html So no crying about cable not having Sunday Ticket. It's just another case of them being cheap in everything but their monthly bill. CW
  21. I'm taking a training class for the cert next week, and have to decide whether I want to take the exam in December or wait. If I take it in Dec and fail, it costs me $500 as my company only reimburses when I pass... So there's a bit of pressure. Just curious if anyone here has it.
  22. Keep in mind that the NFL put the Ticket up for bid, and that the cable companies didn't want to pay the money that DirecTV did. They had a shot, they didn't want to take it, don't blame DirecTV for anteing up. CW
  23. I don't know about that... How much would you pay for a 3 page book?
  24. It's worse than just college level students.. I was taking an advanced fiction writing class in college (as an elective, since I like writing). Most people in the class were English majors and sadly, most couldn't comprehend standard grammar (let alone write interesting stories...). It's pretty sad when the professor tells the computer science major that he should be a writer, but doens't say that to the english majors. I think a large part of the problem is that everyone thinks they need to go to college now. When my parents were kids, they could learn a skill in high school or go to trade school. Nowadays, that doesn't happen; high school is more like "college prep," and that hurts the students who aren't really college material. Let's face it, not everyone is good enough to get a degree, and there's nothing wrong with that, but let's not try to force everyone through the (very expensive) college system. CW
  25. Ummm, if you say so....
