They didn't really lose the turnover battle; it was 1-1 not counting the failed lateral with no time on the clock.

Also, a link would be appreciated.

I'm one of those people who look at failed drives, no points it's a failed drive. Doesn't matter if it is punts, ints, fumbles, ToDs; no points you failed...

The lateral certainly doesn't count. The end of half or end of fame TOs mean nothing...

As I've stated before, DaQuon Jones is the straw that stirs the drink on that D. His absence from the Bengals game killed them. He's arguably their most crucial defensive player.

It's him and Milano. When those 2 went out in London, my feeling was fire the season away. White, we survived last year without and figured we could scheme the back end. Those 2 players are what under Allen, diggs and Dawkins on the irreplaceable list?

To me the only way to combat this is to lean heavier into the offense and follow the Chiefs motto, score TDs and get the other team playing from behind and one dimensional. Trying to grind clock to keep the D off the field allows them full use of their playbook and further stresses them team and puts even more pressure on the offense to work in heroics...jmo of course

I suspect if the coaching staff had an issue with his blitz handling they would have addressed it by now. He has never once been a "hot route" kind of QB. He can lean on his elite physical abilities to create explosive plays in those situations and his escaping the blitz takes a coverage defender completely out of the play which creates running lanes and advantages downfield.

To use the same example play, in my mind (and I believe the coaches' minds) it is more likely that we will score a TD with him rolling out than it is if he hits Shakir for a 3 yard gain on that play. 3rd and 2 in a goalline situation is not really a favorable look for our offense. Allen rolling out of the pocket towards Diggs in single man coverage at the front corner of the endzone on 2nd down is a very favorable look. If we want to celebrate the successes that those plays often bring, we have to live with the failures too.

Ty Dunne had an article awhile back with Farve talking about his career and Allen; when he brought up points about why he did something unconventional or went to make a near impossible throw - his response was because I can make the play. Total gunslinger mentality and Josh is wired that same way

Also that play is how Allen always handles free rushers. He never hits a hot route in those situations, especially one that is short of the sticks. People forgot how he plays QB I guess? He usually evades the free rusher and then runs for a big gain or tries to complete a pass in a scramble drill. In this case he hit Diggs at the goal line but Diggs didn't make the tough catch.

These broken plays often become explosive gains or TDs which is why defenses historically have not blitzed him much, they've learned that he burns them more times than not. Here the blitzer did a good job taking away his escape route angle to the right, but Allen rolling out of the pocket even to the left is a really dangerous situation for a defense to put themselves into. They're lucky Diggs didn't corral that one in, like he has a dozen times before.

I don't know, a lot of analysis I'm seeing today is people evaluating Allen as a traditional QB in a traditional offense and that just isn't how it's ever going to be. Instead of complaining about it or trying to take away what makes him special, we should be hoping the team leans into it and surrounds him with weapons that fit his skill set.

Allen is simply not interested in the hot read or checkdown...

You are spot on in your post

I get that! But expecting an offense, even a great offense, to score 30 points to win a game is asking a lot of them.

The D is injured, but they had the LEAD with less than 2 minutes to go.. facing a frankly BAD O.  They couldn’t stop a bad O. What’s going to happen when the Bills face not only very good O’s but also very good D’s like Dallas and Philly. I mean Sundays Bills D wouldn’t stop Mahomes once and they pull off what the Bills did to NE a few years ago and score TDs on every drive.

KC wins the superbowls with unstoppable offense and not great defenses. If you go up 14 + points, the opponent is one dimensional amd become easier to defend, you take away a large portion of their playbook.

I will also add when looking at a top team against the league average, you are looking at fools gold. How can you compare the tops teams against averages of teams that are not their peers, the bottom 16 teams of the league are worse than us, where do we compare against the averages of the good teams? Especially on offense....

ok so a guy that wasnt available and then More Non First round WRs.  So again your issue is lets draft for WRs but in the first, and my argument even thought they dont is to draft WRs valued in other rounds much higher because well I need something to support my argument????

Part of the reason why I am a bit meh on trading for players at the deadline. Use you picks and players to move around the draft to go grab an eventual diggs replacement in RD 1. I pinch my nose as I say this, but if we aren't great this year, so be it and use this draft to get that WR (provided this class actually has someone).

We can always make cap room, but I'm looking for younger playmaker. This year the QB run will help push talent down the board. An off year for us, well...

I don't like it, but looking at how we are trending...it's in the back of my mind

well, Bean is generally bad-mediocre with 1st-2nd round picks, so I'd be okay trading for a guy with a 1st who is a 1st round value.  1st next year, and a 3rd the following that can become a second.  Throw in Knox  (Den coach gen likes TEs).

Beane has repeatedly said he likes to keep his trades too the current draft,  so I'd apply that philosophy here.  As a GM he did have the responsibility to weigh out the odds of us making a run out not in what he gives up and for who.

I'd also caution all of us, look at Hines last year and barely playing.  Even if we made a move,  how does it move the needle this year? I know it's a 1 player sample size,  but getting that player up to speed and going,  didn't seem like this coaching staff is capable of...

    WR2.

let me caveat that by saying can be a slot or outside. Someone that can step up when Diggs is taken out of the football game.

this team has had enough of the Disappearing act of Davis.

    100%

That being said, unless it is someone we can resign or hold onto for a few years and will pay dividends, I'm not sure I'm trading picks to try to go all-in this season, this team is not that team imo...

  9. The biggest change in offense is the lack of a real WR2, John Brown and Emmanuel Sanders are more of a threat than Gabe. This has tremendously choked our offense...

Allen doesn't trust the OL with pressure coming and he doesn't really trust Davis or Knox (drops I assume) the target share minus Diggs for every other pass catchers are very low.

Add Milano out and we have to now really outscore everyone.

    Woof.

Has anyone went over to the Cheats* message board lately? Curious as to how they are doing over there LOL

Beane’s “turn a blind eye” approach to WR2 ranks up there with heading into the season with Nate Peterman and rookie Josh Allen.

    Utterly stupid.

It would be a world of difference you would see in the offense...

It pushes Gabe down to wr3 and would allow him to work the defense like he used to (to freelance himself open down field) and to be able to swap him and Kincaid out when u wanted to attack in 11 or 12 personnel. I'll use Hopkins as an example but him diggs knox and Davis or him, diggs Knox and Kincaid is nice...

Yep. This is much more the issue than any changing of Josh or anything of that nature. Teams have reverted the past two weeks to double Diggs and man up the rest. The Bills don't have an answer at the moment because the other guys are not winning their assignments.

This handcuffs Dorsey's play calling as well

who knows how well Knox could catch the ball with a bad wrist?

Based off of past experiences, without a wrist injury, his drop in a we really need a play to be made by you, is par for the course...

All kidding aside, the lack of a bona-fide WR2 who can run a full route tree and quickly get off the line hurts this team more than anything else right now

It should be made clear to Allen that running is an important part of his game and needs to continue.  At the same time, it should be made clear to him unless the game is on the line, he needs to avoid getting hit as much as possible.

Either the coaches, Allen or both are making a mess of this, and it needs to be fixed.

Allen without the running part of his game, makes him a lesser QB.

    There is a chance, indeed.

But again...at this point, we're not talking about honing an elite top-level understanding.  We're talking about making bonehead decisions that the man who "changed my career when he walked into the building" (Josh's words about Dorsey) should be able to talk to Josh and be heard about.

    Agree...

Wrong thread (kind of) but since I have your attention and I do (most of us do) trust your insight...

And comments or thoughts on this? I literally just had this pop up on Twitter. I want to go back and watch the entire thing...
