No. If's he's cut all of that 10.7 becomes dead cap. But if we got, say, a seventh-rounder we get all that cap space. It is if you want to sign somebody or trade for somebody. I'm not saying to do it just to create the space. Beane would have to have someone in mind and would do this as part of that move.

What you get for Oliver in a trade is not really important. If he's traded, the BIlls free up 10.7 million in cap space with 0 dead cap. That's the asset.

I know that mock drafts don't do a good job of predicting exactly what each team will do, but they do give you a good sense of what the consensus of players' values are going into the draft. Every mock draft in 2019 had Ed Oliver going in the top 10, with most having him going in the top 5. For me, he is not a terrible player at all. But he didn't live up to his draft position and Beane doesn't seem to intend to extend him. Might as well get something if you can and use that cap space elsewhere. The fans on his new team won't hate on him so much because the draft position won't be a factor for them.

To be fair, how many guards can you name that have never played for the Bills? For me, it's Cole Strange because of the draft reach and Quinton Nelson because of how high he was drafted. Every time the BIlls are linked to a guard, I have to look him up.
