Ravens vs Chiefs Game thread (the Bills lamp is lit)
Low Positive replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think the talent is as good as we all think it is. They have a reputation as a good drafting team, so when a player is drafted by them his assessment goes up a few notches. Also, whenever they make a move it is seen by fans around the league as a good move, even it was a move that would be questioned if another team made it. Even the professional talking heads are guilty of this. It's circular thinking. Like "The Ravens made a move, and it must be a good move because the Ravens make good moves." Exhibit one of this would be the response here when they signed Jaire Alexander. Now their fans know better, of course, because they live with the team day in and day out. They are really angry at Eric DeCosta, who everyone here thinks is without flaw, for drafting a safety and neglecting the offensive and defensive lines. They also have a reputation having a really good and physical defense. It can take years for that perception to shift in the eyes of the public. Look at how long it took for people to stop assuming that the Steelers defense would be good. -

But I thought they have the Best Roster in the NFL™? -

Your last point here is the truth. The Bills broke the Ravens and the Lions finished the job last week. We tend to treat these guys like Madden players, who have a rating and always play up to that rating. But these are human beings, with all the emotional baggage that comes with that. The Best Roster in the NFL™ just looks defeated, and Harbaugh is in danger of losing the locker room. Another point; John Harbaugh's background is as a special teams coach. This means that he's a manager who has little to do with scheme on either side of the ball and is therefore dependent on coordinators more than most coaches. When they lose a coordinator to a HC job, they end up installing a whole new system which can necessitate personnel changes. This happens every couple of years. -

Josh Allen won an MVP last year with an awful game in Houston. -
Well, drives are starting almost in FG range due to the kickoff rules. Also, open-field tackles are nearly impossible RBs and WRs are strong enough to run through solo arm tackles from the waist down. So yeah, that's the new NFL.

Bills lost to the Chiefs yesterday. Must be, because we're firing the coach and Xavier Worthy is an all-pro. I read all that here on TBD. I get all my football info here because "enquiring minds want to know" (I figure a reference to a TV commercial from the 80's would go over well with this crowd.) -
What are you talking about? That slow punter is the Bills biggest weapon this side of Josh Allen RtP flops.

This is not what I saw at all. There were a bunch of deep shots in the second quarter that were incomplete. And on all of those, you could see guys open underneath who probably could have gotten the first. Someone, either Josh Allen or Joe Brady, went away from what was working to try to open up the passing game. Then they went back to what was working on the first drive of the third quarter, and in retrospect, that was all she wrote. In general, there is a risk in downfield passing. They are lower-percentage plays that can either result in INTs or incompletions that put you behind the sticks. Those incompletions put a team in obvious passing downs, reducing the effect of the running game. Everything in football comes with a tradeoff. The Xs and Os of that are what make the game so great. -
1) I don't think any fans are satisfied with their favorite team's tackling. You just don't notice it on other teams. When we watch other games, offensive guys from both teams make plays. When we watch the Bills, any play by the other team is the result of missed tackles, bad scheme, and horrible coaching. Sometimes the other guys make plays too. All that being said, the Bills need to stop letting teams score on their first scripted drive. The difference between the Jets games and the last two games is that we let the inferior team score early, keeping them in the game. 2) You're not wrong on the officiating. A team with 38 rushing attempts, some of them QB scrambles after he held the ball forever, had 1 offensive holding call. They did have an agenda. What we saw was a bunch of refs keeping a weaker team in the game. Another point: The modern NFL rules dictate that the other team, no matter how bad, is probably going to score some points. It reminds me of when I used to be more active on Sabres forums. A player like Crosby would score an amazing goal, and the forum would spend all their time trying to find whch defender missed their assignment. Sometimes the other guys make plays. And the salary cap dictates that even really bad NFL teams have some star players. In 2012, the Lions had Calvin Johnson, who had almost 2,000 receiving yards, and Matthew Stafford, who had almost 5,000 passing yards. They went 4-12. All teams have stars

Did I miss something? This entire board feels like the Bills lost to the Chiefs yesterday. We got Chiefs fans popping in to defend Mahomes. We got the Worthy thread bumped. We're firing the coach and the GM because the Chiefs beat us again in the playoffs. It's like a strange parallel universe. -

My inclination is to let people wallow in their misery, but if you check the stats, you'll see that it wasn't as bad as it felt on TV. https://static.www.nfl.com/image/upload/v1759090809/gamecenter/f6aa26a6-311e-11f0-b670-ae1250fadad1.pdf -

But that was a penalty 10 times out of 10. He saw the drop and decided to get a lick in anyway. A stupid decision that cost his team a game. Jerrah looks like he's gonna cry. -

I'm really angry that the Bills lost this game. I didn't watch and I haven't checked the score, but i came right here to see if we won and it is clear that we lost and lost bad. The amount of complaining on here about the defense must mean that the Bills defense gave up more yards of offense than any other team this year to the Saints. What????!!!! You're telling me that they actually won???? The Bills worst in the league defense gave up fewer yards to the Saints than both the Cards and 49ers? Couldn't be!!! They're starting a head coaching search one thread down FFS.- 376 replies

You can't do that. If the Rams knew he was this good, they would have picked him 4 rounds sooner. They were just as surprised as everyone else.

You know how everyone here thinks Eric DeCosta is the best GM who has built the "Most Talented Roster in the NFL™?" Well, I just checked Purple Flock and Ravens fans want him fired for neglecting both lines. -

And what do you want the Bills to do about that in late September?
