  1. Between this comment and the one that those who make more money are more productive is a not true comment in response both have some validity. The problem with welfare to an extent is that people do become lazy if they get money without doing any work, although some welfare cheats seem to put in a lot of effort! But at a certain point the law of diminishing returns apply and those making over a certain amount become less productive too. A smart politician should could someday work with some econometric models to target 95% of the highly productive middle for tax breaks and incentives while raising taxes on those that become less productive outside of this area. There would that suit everyone's Calvinistic tendencies....
  2. I am not, just figured I would get a rise out both sides with my post. Seriously though, plumbers make a lot of cash and I agree that Obama set his figure too low for business owners. $1 million for net revenue would have been a better figure. I stated that I wasn't sure what should constitute a small business. Might be a good thread for discussion. I have no idea of the stats in this regard, what the distribution is and how many make what?
  3. I can't bear to watch another useless debate, and I recently got NHL center ice, but don't need it tonight. I will get to watch it on MSG. Go Sabres, man are they hitting this year!
  4. Naw it was the camera, but your comment is why so many of these models are anorexic. I would tap her, newer improved version of Palin and she apparently likes to Fu&^
  5. He obviously is not a "small business owner" although NFIB will call a lot of large businesses and corporate farms small business. That being said, Obama should have known better how his response would sound. The lifting the Capital Gains tax rate across the board has unintended consequences for folks that I don't think Obama intends to target, but makes his plan problematic.
  6. I gotta LOL. Is this where the right wing knuckle draggers and the left wing hosanna come together to a point of agreement. They both do what the other accuses them of and ultimately realize that they are one... Facists Communists. The absurdity of this thread and the history it references deserves only one response: "I fart in all of your general direction"
  7. A regular talking skeleton head ready for Halloween. That is what happens with all that plastic surgery... pretty soon there is nothing more to take away.
  8. What about OXY Boy, thought they already had one.
  9. Neither does individual responsibility work when it comes to economics, especially when what you are good at make a lot of money unless you are a good business person as well. Free Markets are a farce, never has been one, always ends up with a small cadre that gets control wealth. What makes America great is that through innovation, government intervention and pure stubbornness, we find ways to break up these oligarchies and we are a diversified economy. Once again, balance, both sides have points but in pure form, neither side works because human nature can corrupt any form. Government and people need to change it up regularly and remain vigilant. If the Messiah doesn't work out then you can always go back to McSame. Either way it will be different. If only someone really crazy like Ron Paul was seriously in the mix then we could actually put the establishment's feet to the fire, if only because of the skizoidness of the whole thing.
  10. P.S. Spreading the wealth isn't such a bad thing depending how it is done. Republicans think it should be done voluntarily which is a farce because it never happens at the level it needs to and those that have the least give the most. Rich people don't give, maybe why they became rich, but that is not the point. Greed is good to a point until it becomes bad and then everything falls apart. Spreading a little cheer keeps all the wheels running well... There has to be a middle ground where the wealthy either give back more or through taxation are required to. The problem then becomes if you tax them too much then it too becomes bad economically. Balance folks, something neither the right, nor the left seem to get. But the true believers don't need to eat, they live off their own adrenaline. For the rest of us schmucks either way, however it gets done, lay off the rw/lw kool aid and find some common ground, we will all be better off.
  11. Yep, I agree the Ayers and Wright stuff is all about trying to Willie Horton Obama. McCain has some pretty bad associations too, but I don't see the media jumping on them. What about the Keating 5, what about Jack Abramson, what about McCain's Oil connections and campaign contributions, in fact both sides campaign backers and their special interests have largely been ignored by the media. The reason that Republicans are crying that the media is ignoring the Ayers and Wright stuff is mostly because it is past news and is so blatantly political. However, on the economic argument, Obama has left the door open for a courageous proposal from McCain and if he can show a modicum of intelligence on the economy and put an end to his campaign's snarling useless attacks, he might get voters to listen to his message. But right now all you hear out of them is growl, snap Obama bad, hysterical white mobs decrying he is not one of us. That isn't McCain, but he has let his folks get away with it to the point that it is hurting him. He needs to put a muzzle on Palin and send some penicillin to the true believers in order to get the middle's votes. Obama is vulnerable on the economy because of his choice of words as in today where is said he wanted to spread the wealth. That terminology is already being effectively interpreted by Republicans to their advantage, whatever Obama meant.
  12. If Alaska can be considered part of this country, so can southern Ontario... come on. Heck they both appear to have the same whiny accents....Mummmm and awww shuuucks. Where is Dana Carvey when you need him, bet he would do a very funny Palin imitation.
  13. Speaking of Hockey, the Sabres kicked the Islanders butt this afternoon 7-1. Go Sabres!
  14. There are two things going on here. I agree that bogus names can easily be slid on to voter rolls in certain areas. On the other side, I have seen voter intimidation where young Republicans stand by the polls and tell folks, especially African Americans that they have to go somewhere else to vote even though they vote right at that spot and told if they don't have two forms of ID including picture ID they can't vote. Usually it comes down to over enthusiastic youth, but there usually is some older gentleman behind the scenes threatening to take legal action if they are not eligible to vote. Mostly it was questioning their ID and just being nasty, like standing in front of people trying to go into vote and loudly talking about how the other side is bad in some form or another. Poll workers have almost gotten in fights, but it always seems to happen in marginal Dem and Republican districts. So the game goes on. Disgusting on both sides.
  15. Which is why it is such a cluster, because they never will, but how else are you going to get the funding for local education without them. Need to start a movement, Education Funding with Local Control. Eliminate "No Child Left Behind"
  16. I agree Darin local control is the best way to go... problem is the only adequate funding source for many areas comes from either the State or Fed level and that is where to whole process breaks down because everyone wants a say and promelgate a one size fits all and then don't provide the adequate flexibility to accomplish those tax... round and round we go, where we stop nobody knows. All I can say is education remains a contention cluster...
  17. Then why throw in the corn hole insult..., All I was saying about the apology was that it was typical and a good political tactic. I don't disagree with you about ACORN, not sure the group as a whole should go out of existence, but voter fraud is a problem with certain fringe elements. The Repigs have had their problems too. Keep that nasty insults to a minimum and you might get an intelligent response out of me. Otherwise Fox Ewe.
  18. What has this got to do with free speech. I never said they couldn't say what they have said, but that they should apologize for it and the Dems should Demand IT! Listen here, do I have to edumcate you knuckle dragger, when decide to pick your backside off the outhouse stall, you will note that I didn't say anything the Republican Party hasn't done at the drop of a hat... Hypocrite. And I agree, ACORN SHOULD HAVE better quality control and keep its name out of this kind of controversy. Also, they should issue an apology too and either accept greater standards or stay out of the voter reg. game. You are pathetic, you never admitted the Republican side is full of crap, lemming.
  19. You are an idiot. Do you even live in upstate? I lived in a number of areas in the state and Albany might as well be 500 miles from NYC. On substance, I would be concerned and want a valid explanation and have it corrected no matter the expense NOW!
  20. And now McCain camp is calling John Lewis' comments beyond the Pale when stating the McCain camp is generating this by whipping is crowd up. Please, unless the McCain camp, not just John McCain puts and an end to this despicable behavior, it lies at the candidates feet and Palin should be ashamed of herself for her antics, Democrats should demand an immediate apology from the whole Republican party.
  21. Interestingly, McCain on the stump today admonished his supporters thou gritting his teeth that while they shouldn't temper their fervor the should do it respectfully, that Obama is an honorable man and if elected President, he will be a good one. Interesting, they are finally realizing their negative attacks are having more of an effect on McCain's reputation then turning Obama away from him. Duh Big Nut, you here that??? Your boy is losing! That being said, I respect McCain, whatever his motivation for coming out and stating that, should have done it sooner and let go of his Carl Rove protege's. He would have been better off showing leadership during this financial meltdown and staying above the fray, but he chose Palin and thought that running the same old, same old campaign... kinda like fighting the last war was a winning strategy. Too bad, I think it was against his better judgment, but it was an easy attractive solution for his campaign people, just not a winning one against Obama's calm demeanor.
  22. Not totally sure about that... since DDT and PCBs were removed wildlife had moved back into the Western MA area. Turkey's roam in packs of 100, Bobcats, coyotes, fishercats, porcupines, bears, moose, brook trout are common place. Hey someone just hit a moose in Westchester last week. And a mountain lion/cougar has been spotted in the Amherst area this summer.
  23. Yep, it is a deer with guns control issue They shoot back!
  24. Sigh... I hate to admit your probably right
