Couldn't agree more about the offense. On D, I hope it's not too soon for a huge game for Browning and Borland. Browning playing in front of his hometown crowd could cut either way, but he strikes me as the type of kid that plays up to a situation like this. I really like what I saw out of Wade last week - I had almost forgotten that he was the #2 ranked CB coming out of HS.

Please be right!

Here’s an interesting take from a TCU analyst. Aside from player breakdowns, he says Patterson’s meticulous preparation may provide an edge over the Ohio State sideline sans Urban. This did not help my nerves.

Good program consistently ranked in the Top 25. Running QB and speed at skill positions can break big plays against a Buckeye defense that still has problems at MLB. Remember those underneath routes that killed the Bucks last year against offenses that were able to gain traction? I’m concerned about that. Plus, fifth-year seniors at TCU remember how pissed they were in 2014 when OSU jumped them in the rankings to get into the playoffs, so there will be some emotion mixed in as well. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bucks give up a few TDs in this game. But based on what I’ve seen from OSU’s offense so far this year, I just don’t think TCU will be able to keep up. Haskins appears to be in complete control of an offense with 4 and 5 star weapons all over the place. He’s due for a letdown at some point, and if it happens here then anything is possible. But in my mind it’s far more likely that OSU covers the 14 point spread in a tough game.

Wild game!

A few takeaways from today: The first half of the game was supremely enjoyable. I loved what they were doing on offense. There was a clear emphasis on Campbell with five targets early on, including an end around and a sweet TD. They also intentionally featured Dobbins a bit more than Weber this week, giving him six touches in a row at one point. Haskins spreading it around to everyone on the field in between bombs to Dixon is just a peak OSU experience for me. McCall muffed two punts, and then broke off a nice return to reward the coaches for leaving him in there. Not sure what his deal is at this point-- he's starting to remind me of Dontre Wilson in a way. I’m seeing CJ Saunders more than I expected given the crowded WR room. He had a nice punt return too. The coaches must really like him. Good story. On defense, I’m not sure I have ever seen a Buckeye Dline dominate an opponent quite like what happened in the last two minutes of the first half. Rutgers clearly wanted to head to the locker room and perhaps the OLine was already there mentally. Chase Young’s sack was naaasty. Bosa was freaking unstoppable. Note to other teams: maybe don’t try to block him with only a TE. That poor freshman QB left the game absolutely miserable. On the back end, Fuller’s return was obviously key. In the second half, the Martell/Snead/Victor combination gave us a peek into the future. Martell had a solid game, and he showed good heart after getting destroyed on the sideline. It’s clear that his accuracy is not at Haskins’s level, although I'm not sure I've ever seen an OSU QB place the ball quite like Haskins. Still, Martell is fun to watch and I don’t mind putting his tape out there for other teams to think about while game planning. Day ain’t afraid of no rain. Overall, a delightful day to watch Buckeye football.

I love that Dixon is getting the long balls. He’s had a tough road to this point.

Agree about Haskins, obviously. He may be a bigger factor in the WR improvement than the coaching change in that room. It’s 2018 and I don’t want to spend the season talking about JTB, but everything we discussed last season about inaccuracies and not throwing people open was on full display. The passing game was glorious. Day and Wilson were definitely feeling themselves in the play calling. Wilson 100% called that TE pass for his own unit. I hope they prove themselves over these three weeks and Urban lets them keep it going. No called QB runs for Haskins was a dream come true. As for the Defense, well, now that Smith is gone the fans will need a new public enemy, and that person is Bill Davis. The LBs need to get organized and fast. Most of the points came on just a few big plays rather than sustained drives. Those breakdowns remind me way too much of 2013. Hopefully all the secondary players leaving for the NFL these past few years haven’t finally caught up to the defense.

It’s week 1 and those teams all stepped up when they needed to. We’ll see how it goes.

Home games against Wisconsin and Penn St, road games at MSU and OSU, mix in Northwestern and Maryland... seems like a rough road to me.

True, and Bush is a monster at MLB.
-
ND looks like they might not get another first down.
-
Michigan having OL issues, as expected.
-
Lol, State never saw it coming!

My first impression of Patterson is that he reminds me of Flutie out there.

That’s rough.

PSU does it. What a game. App St’s QB made his first college start at Happy Valley and goes 12 rounds. PSU handles early season adversity. KJ Hamler looks like a star. Welcome back, football!
-
There was a rain delay that messed up the schedule. The game was moved to ESPNEWS in my area.

App St just ran it right down PSU’s throat for that TD. (Taking notes.) KJ Hamler for PSU with a clutch 50 yd KO return. Crazy: PSU 4th and 2 with a minute to play down 7. Got it. TD PSU! Nothing better than football Saturday

I’m here for App State! Hugely entertaining early evening action between Auburn-Wash and PSU-App St. Washington’s passing attack is as good as advertised, especially the back shoulder throws. Auburn’s athletes are impressive and undisciplined. PSU wants this nightmare to end already but App St. not going away. Even if PSU pulls it out, I’ve spent all afternoon seeing App St highlights from their win at Michigan in 2007, so it’s a win-win.

Maryland might be the real story there. It’s been a rising program, Durkin for his flaws knows how to prepare, and a tragedy can bring a team together. All that being said, yeah Herman would love to hide in a champagne room right about now.
