Ballsy drive for that kid.

Are you hate-watching this game?
-
Halftime can’t come soon enough.
-
And also the bottles of urine that the fans have been known to throw.

Not sure, but I think whiteouts during the day are kind of goofy and not nearly as effective as they are at night.

Game of the Day: Saturday September 22, 2018
Willyville Guy replied to Fadingpain's topic in College Football
I’m loving Wisconsin-Iowa. 17-14 Hawkeyes after three lead changes. -
Michigan looked amazing today. Defense is top end and the offense is coming together with Patterson and Higdon. I’m concerned. Meanwhile, Wisconsin-Iowa is a hugely entertaining B1G game. I’m glad the Buckeyes don’t currently play that way, but it’s fun to watch two teams line up and just try to out muscle each other.

No doubt. I think that was the year Joey G set all the passing records that Haskins is about to break.

I road-tripped to PSU as a freshman in 1994 to watch Ki-Jana Carter run up the score on a good OSU team right after PSU joined the conference. That sucked. After that “fluke,” PSU wasn't really on my radar until Pryor’s Buckeyes ran into a buzzsaw during the first nighttime whiteout I can remember. Since then those games have been nearly impossible to win on the road. I currently think of MSU as a bigger rival mostly because of Dantonio’s connection to OSU as defensive coordinator during the national championship run in 02. He runs that program similarly to the way Tressel ran the OSU program, which will always cut deep for OSU fans. Losses in the conference championship in 13 and a terrible home loss in 15 (on my 40th birthday) sealed the OSU-MSU game as a bitter rivalry for me.

304 yards and 5 TDs in the first half is pretty wild. Plus, it was good to see Pryor and Browning making plays - they must know it’s put-up or sit-down time. Can’t wait for next week.

Yeah, I joked upthread that Davis would be Public Enemy #1 now that Smith is gone, but he deserves it at this point. OSU recruits the same level of talent at LB as it does every other position group, so the reason LBs are so far behind the rest has got to be poor coaching. Davis's NFL experience isn't translating to the college game for whatever reason. Without significant improvement, he will not be the position coach in 2019. I'm actually feeling really good about the secondary. Okudah and Sheffield at corners, Fuller and Wade at safety. That works for me - assuming Wade can make the transition to safety. He's a beast that should be on the field, and I can see him developing into a ball-hawking safety in the mold of Malik Hooker.

That sounds about right. We’ll see what Urban says about it today but at this point I think there’s no chance he’ll play at PSU.

The guys on Bucknuts Morning 5 today said it’s either a groin tear or maybe a hernia. He’s not out for the season, but he’ll be out for a while because if an injury like this does not heal properly there is a high likelihood that it becomes a long term issue. Maybe a month or so. Not a good situation for him and I expect the Bucks to be smart about getting him back to 100%.

Now let’s get Kirby his 13.5 pts!

Three drops and a terrible penalty? Yeah he had a rough half.

TCU has some serious hot in the student section

Count me a fan of southern and west coast cheerleaders wayyyyy ahead of any squad anywhere else in the world. Maybe some Brazilian or Swedish squads could change my mind, but unless anyone has pics I’m not buying it. EDIT: I’ve also been drinking. Lol -
Patterson is living up to his reputation. Perfect gameplan that the Bucks will see over and over again just like Beamer’s “bear” against JT. Time for OSU’s pricey coaches to earn their paychecks with halftime adjustments.

Couldn't agree more about the offense. On D, I hope it's not too soon for a huge game for Browning and Borland. Browning playing in front of his hometown crowd could cut either way, but he strikes me as the type of kid that plays up to a situation like this. I really like what I saw out of Wade last week - I had almost forgotten that he was the #2 ranked CB coming out of HS.

Please be right!

Here’s an interesting take from a TCU analyst. Aside from player breakdowns, he says Patterson’s meticulous preparation may provide an edge over the Ohio State sideline sans Urban. This did not help my nerves.

Good program consistently ranked in the Top 25. Running QB and speed at skill positions can break big plays against a Buckeye defense that still has problems at MLB. Remember those underneath routes that killed the Bucks last year against offenses that were able to gain traction? I’m concerned about that. Plus, fifth-year seniors at TCU remember how pissed they were in 2014 when OSU jumped them in the rankings to get into the playoffs, so there will be some emotion mixed in as well. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bucks give up a few TDs in this game. But based on what I’ve seen from OSU’s offense so far this year, I just don’t think TCU will be able to keep up. Haskins appears to be in complete control of an offense with 4 and 5 star weapons all over the place. He’s due for a letdown at some point, and if it happens here then anything is possible. But in my mind it’s far more likely that OSU covers the 14 point spread in a tough game.

Wild game!

A few takeaways from today: The first half of the game was supremely enjoyable. I loved what they were doing on offense. There was a clear emphasis on Campbell with five targets early on, including an end around and a sweet TD. They also intentionally featured Dobbins a bit more than Weber this week, giving him six touches in a row at one point. Haskins spreading it around to everyone on the field in between bombs to Dixon is just a peak OSU experience for me. McCall muffed two punts, and then broke off a nice return to reward the coaches for leaving him in there. Not sure what his deal is at this point-- he's starting to remind me of Dontre Wilson in a way. I’m seeing CJ Saunders more than I expected given the crowded WR room. He had a nice punt return too. The coaches must really like him. Good story. On defense, I’m not sure I have ever seen a Buckeye Dline dominate an opponent quite like what happened in the last two minutes of the first half. Rutgers clearly wanted to head to the locker room and perhaps the OLine was already there mentally. Chase Young’s sack was naaasty. Bosa was freaking unstoppable. Note to other teams: maybe don’t try to block him with only a TE. That poor freshman QB left the game absolutely miserable. On the back end, Fuller’s return was obviously key. In the second half, the Martell/Snead/Victor combination gave us a peek into the future. Martell had a solid game, and he showed good heart after getting destroyed on the sideline. It’s clear that his accuracy is not at Haskins’s level, although I'm not sure I've ever seen an OSU QB place the ball quite like Haskins. Still, Martell is fun to watch and I don’t mind putting his tape out there for other teams to think about while game planning. Day ain’t afraid of no rain. Overall, a delightful day to watch Buckeye football.
