Our defense like most is based on gap integrity. Whitner is maintaining the edge, while the LB should have C and maybe B gaps. While he may be reacting later than we'd like, both of those plays are very poor LB play, not Safety play(Although Byrd did blow the second one).

At this point I would take Jemarcus....At least with him we'd get to watch him flick 70 yard bombs the rest of the year before getting a new QB.

Even better keep Byrd on the field and let him develop skills at the line and 2nd level. Hes shown he can hit and tackle well already...he could end up being what Donte is advertised as....

Agreed. However it's being made painfully clear how much more effective Donte Whitner and Bryan Scott are against the run.

A couple of times during today's game I mistook Terrell Owens for James Hardy...that gives you an idea where TO's level of play is at this year.

I've always been a 3-4 fan and like your idea for the most part. My only hang-up is with Schobel/Maybin combo. I would have to see more of Maybin's coverage/tackling/awareness before putting him opposite Schobel in a 3-4. Obviously you'd want to have him rushing the edge on passing downs, but we wouldn't be able to bring both of them on 1st downs. On top of that I can't help but think by the time Maybin is mentally ready to start at OLB, Schobel would be too old to.
