  1. It's actually fairly straightforward. If people understand powerball or mega millions, they understand this. It's the same exact process but with fewer possible combinations.
  2. There's no such thing as job security in the coaching profession. How many NHL coaches current tenure is longer than three seasons? 12. Three of those are on the hot seat and may not be back next year (Julien, McLellan, Tippett). And then there's Babcock who may walk. That number is actually higher than I expected, but the rest of the list are mostly teams where the job has turned over several times in recent years.
  3. You answered your own question right there. People aren't going to trust a random number generator.
  4. Oops, I need to look at the new odds, not the old ones. But anyway, do they have lottery machines that don't use ping pong balls? Everything you ever see on tv is the ping pong ball. But either way, the earlier idea that this system unnecessarily complicates things is out the window. A 14 ball lottery is way more efficient than 200. Edit: And not that it matters much, but I'm curious about what the true probabilities in their approach are. The ones listed are actually rounded numbers. There are 1001 possible combinations and our chance is 20%. There's one number combination not accounted for in the draft lottery odds that we see. Not that it means much of anything, but I hope that one extra shot is ours.
  5. I have to say, the commercials I have seen for Unfriended make it look like the dumbest movie of all time. It makes me wonder if Adam Sandler is secretly a member of the cast.
  6. It's a lot easier than what most would suggest. Everyone always pictures one ball coming out of the machine with a painted on logo of the winning team. In order to run that setup, they'd need 1000 balls in the machine to match the probabilities that are laid out. That would be one massive lottery machine.
  7. I kind of hate that 2009 is my favorite sports moment. I was there for it and it was pure joy. I want a Buffalo team to have that moment for me, not a Boston team.
  8. He's gone. Don't worry about it... Especially after we win our 20% long shot.
  9. I hate you
  10. Boston lost anyway Edit: and it is very fitting that the season, and the tank, ended with a shutout.
  11. I just found a hole in my 2009 national championship tshirt so I need a new one.
  12. It gets more complicated if they wind up tied. There are two different scenarios there where either of the two teams wind up in the playoffs.
  13. I like you
  14. Nothing is ever guaranteed. Injury can derail anything.
  15. Not taking a single point in January sure did take care of that. When we look back on this season, that's where we really landed McEichel.
  16. My 2009 shirts are getting a bit old. I need a new set of national champions shirts. Deliver that tonight Eichel, and then skatebgourcway on over to Buffalo.
  17. Washington finished second last that year but won the lottery. It was a big drop from previous seasons, but I've never heard a tank accusation thrown their way before.
  18. Right. I think they rotate the picks in the later rounds though when teams finish tied. I could just be making that up though, I know at least one of the leagues uses that but I can't remember which.
  19. Haven't the 76ers lost every game over the past 4 years now? I hear them mentioned constantly any time I turn on ESPN. Maybe it just doesn't get as much attention in bounceyball since just about every bottom feeder team is accused of it.
  20. Draft picks had already been traded when they made the changes. That's the main reason why they didn't enact them immediately. Those deals were made under one set of valuation and the new rules would drastically change the value of those picks.
  21. This stuff is driving me mad. People will gladly look at a team's recent performance and ignore the season as a whole (ie. the crappy 80 games the Sabres have had) if that view leads towards doom and gloom for Buffalo. But if the recent performance leads to a more positive view for the Sabres (ie. Columbus is red hot right now going 10-0-1, with the only loss coming against the Rags), they ignore it completely. There is no massive hockey gods anti-Buffalo conspiracy out there and people need to drop the woe is me act. And it's not meant to be directed at you eball. It is the fanbase in general, or at least what I see online. The inferiority complex drives me mad.
  22. Thank you? If my wife ever hears about this she'll be buying all of those lesson plans.
  23. Great move by them. I'm surprised though that they have to do this in order to get him access to their health insurance though, since it happened as a part of one of their games.
  24. They do get some money and it can be shady at times. The NCAA views them as professional players though, so one single game their and they're ineligible.
  25. The whole thing is skewed by the fact that kids can play in major junior much earlier than they can in college. The elite like McDavid are allowed to start at 15 while the rest can start at 16. Once they play a single game there, they're ineligible for the NCAA. I'd love to see that rule dropped some day. You get these 20 year old kids who have burned up their junior illegibility and aren't good enough for the next step. The NCAA games would get even more competitive if some of these kids were instead allowed to go that way.
