Boy, Scourton has come down A LOT in weight. He was 280 if he weighed an ounce during last season and not all of it was good weight. I’m still thinking that Scourton at 260 is still considerably more powerful than Ezeiruaku. I would say that Ezeiruaku has the advantage in pass rush moves and flexibility. It will be interesting to see their 40 times and 10 yard splits.
i do worry that putting an undersized DE in Ezeiruaku out there with undersized DT (Oliver) in front of two undersized LBs playing 4-2-5 with a small nickel CB might not be a good idea.
But *maybe* not so impressive that he would be a lock to be taken before 30. I am not counting on him lasting until 30, but there is at least a slim chance.
I’ve said I find it hard to believe he’ll be there at 30 too but I wish he played with more fire for a man his size. That’s usually what happens with big guys. He possesses everything to be dominant but at times I watch his tape and I’m like eh depending on the game -

What about Pearce and Green? You excluding because you think they will go earlier than you'd be willing to move up to? Or because you think rumoured off field stuff means they are probably not realistic for the Bills?
I think Buffalo probably and unfortunately passes on Pearce especially in a trade up. Green also has character issues but teams seem happy but I think he goes in a range where it might cost the Bills too much -

I broadly agree, although I slightly disagree on Barron I think he is a lock for the top 15. But I'd put a ton of guys in that category of anywhere between #9 with the Saints and #32 with the Eagles..... Mykeil Williams, Shermar Stewart, James Pearce, the three DTs after Graham, Jihad Campbell, both the safeties, the top four receivers, both tight ends....
The guys I think are top 10 locks are:
Cam Ward
Abdul Carter
Travis Hunter
Mason Graham
Then guys who could go top 10 but are top 15 locks:
Ashton Jeanty
Will Campbell
Jahdae Barron
Armand Membou
I then think Mike Green and Jalon Walker will definitely go top 20. After that guys have very wide ranges IMO.
What I'm trying to get from @nosejob and @Vickveto, not in an antagonistic way, but in the spirit of genuine discussion is ignore that first gaggle of guys who are out of reach... who might fall into the realistic trade up window who they would consider going up for?
Yea , much like FA, I like people get jacked about the big splash and think that will be the difference in winning a SB or not. I mean to answer your question, and I know your not asking me in particular but I only see 4 guys I would move up for and to me there is a possibility that all 4 could still be there at 30. Kenneth Grant, Derrick Harmon, Trey Amos, and Hairston -
Pretty impressive for a man at 330 pounds

I would look to trade a pick somewhere for a young guy who is now blocked because of what his team did in free agency.
I mentioned trying to get Alex Austin back from the Pats, coaching changes etc and he is basically a 3/4 corner there where I would be excited to have him starting here opposite Benford over guys like Jackson. This seems unlikely, but it's something I would pursue.
How about JuJu Brents? He has had issues staying on the field, but he has flown down the depth chart in Indy, and there was also a defensive coaching change there. I am not sure he is a great fit for the scheme there now. He was already behind Kenny Moore and Jaylon Jones, and they added Charvarius Ward and Corey Ballentine. He seems like a guy who badly needs a change of scenery, and I always like his fit here. Brents is a slower corner at 4.53 with ridiculously long arms and a crazy 3 cone. I'd give them what we got for Kair.
Maybe Jacksonville's Montaric Brown or Jarrian Jones? Seems like they are making changes there.
Just some ideas to try and get guys who maybe could use a change of scenery. I would love to get our hands on Brents. He was made to play in the McDermott scheme.
It’s funny because I thought about the same idea for Alex Austin especially since everytime I see him on the field he looks like he’s doing some good things. Not as a starting option but CB 3 for sure-

We are not getting to the Graham and Carter range. We just aren't. So let's leave that to the side for now.... who are the guys that "fill" this draft and match our needs that you would want the Bills to consider trading up for in say the teens or the early 20s? Because that is a realistic conversation to have.
I agree with this but honestly, and the Bills obviously will have better insight than us, but picks 9 to 32 and beyond can be a slew of like 30 different players as team grades are going to be wildly different on these guys. Grant can go as high as 11 or as low as 30. Barron is another great example, does he go in the teens of 20s or does some needy CB team take him top 10. It’s going to be so hard to predict until their into the high teens of this draft-

A trade is imminent. we’re not keeping 10 rookies. We could trade out to later draft that’s a possibility or we could take a big swing and try to go get the missing piece. That’s my stance and I hope we do it.
I think and have said this before I can see one of two things happening. Bills go best CB/DL at 30. Then trade up at 56 using a 4th and 5th to secure the other need. I think this is more likely if they go DL at 30 than CB.
The other scenario is Buffalo stays put at 30 and 56 and trade down from 62 to recoup a 3rd and an additional pick and move around the board in the middle rounds to secure their other needs

Sf publicly stated they are in “reset” if will Johnson is there go get him. Two first and a second. Take best DT pick at 62
Will Johnson and Jahdae Barron are good players but they are no sure thing to be lockdown NFL guys. I wouldn’t give up that kind of value when I can get Trey Amos who’s a perfect fit for the Bills, Hairston who would automatically make the Bills more athletic in the back end, or injury guys like Ravel or Morrison or a man cover guy in Thomas somewhere around 30-

That is where you strike into a problem. I think late second is likely to be a bit of a wasteland at corner. In terms of corners with 1st or 2nd type grades I have:
1st round: Hunter (if you think he is a CB); Barron; Johnson
1st/2nd: Revel - MAJOR injury red flag
2nd: Hariston; Morrison - MAJOR injury red flag; Amos; Thomas
2nd/3rd: Porter
And there are so many corner needy teams I am just not sure any of those 9 get to the Bills at the bottom of the second unless the medicals on Revel or Morrison are so bad that they fall - and if that is the case the Bills won't pick them anyway.
After that my next tier is something like Dorian Strong, Cobee Bryant and Zy Alexander.... but I feel like 2nd round is a reach for any of those guys and there almost certainly will be better, more talented, players on the board at other spots.
If their plan is to take defensive line at #30 and wait on corner until round 2.... I think they will have to be willing to move UP in the second.
Personally, no. I think his Ole Miss tape is a lot better and more consistent than his A&M tape and I just think there is something weird about Texas A&M Dline coaching. they take very talented guys and make them look kind of average. I think Nic Scourton is another example. You only see flashes on the A&M tape then you put his Purdue film on and it's like "wow".
I understand there may be off-field / personality concerns with Nolen and that might push him down to the end of round 1 or even into the top of day 2. But without the information to take a view on that I have him as a first round grade.
I know we’ve discussed this before a bit but to me you have to take the CB at 30 unless there is just a flat out sure thing DL guy that falls into your lap. Way better value at DL at 56 and 62 than CB-

The draft is literally a crap shoot because highly rated draft picks crash and burn while great players come out of Day 2 or 3 in every draft, and good teams miss just like bad teams.
I disagree that the Bills drafting was the reason why the Bills had the playoff drought. It was more a consequence of the team philosophy which always put maximizing profits ahead of winning football games, even during the Glory Years. Bill Polian was fired because he clashed with the finance guys in the 1990s. John Butler (and a significant part of the Bills pro personnel department) left for San Diego because the Chargers offered him more money. During the Drought, the Bills never re-signed their first rounders who did develop into good/great players except for Eric Wood -- most notably, Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements, Willis McGahey, Marshawn Lynch, Stephon Gillmore -- although they did keep some two who became notable busts after signing their second contracts: Mike Williams and Marcell Dareus. Under Tom Donahoe and especially Russ Brandon/Buddy Nix/Doug Whaley regimes, the Bills continually allowed their best players to leave in FA or via trade and used the draft to find replacements.
FYI -- Tre White was the first first-round pick who developed into an outstanding player whom the Bills re-signed since the 1990s. He was drafted as a replacement for Stephon Gilmore whom the Bills allowed to hit FA (and helped the Patriots win SBs).
I don't judge rookies. Some players who look terrible as rookies develop into good/great players. Others who look like good/great NFLers in their first season never ever play that well again. I'm a believer in giving rookies three years to show who they are, especially if they play a position which has a longer learning curve than some other positions. DT is certainly one of those positions.
Mike Williams, Marcell Dareus, JP Losman, EJ Manuel, Aaron Maybin, Leodis McKelvin, CJ Spiller, Donte Whitner, Erik Flowers, John McCargo, Sammy Watkins.
These 11 guys were drafted by the Bills in the first round of the drought era. They were either flat out busts or they were players they didn’t come close to being as good as their draft spot.
Winfield doesn’t count because he was drafted in 99 the last year we were in the playoffs if you want to get technical.
The other guys Nate Clements, Marshawn Lynch, Lee Evans, Willis McGahee, Eric Wood, Stephon Gilmore were good NFL players so 6 guys but….
They did re-sign Eric Wood
Stephon Gilmore hated Buffalo and became the #1 paid CB in the league. Same thing happened for Nate Clements if I recall correctly minus the hatred of Buffalo
They did re-sign Lee Evans who was a very good NFL player for a short period and the Bills have been well documented they they wanted Ben Roethlisberger badly which led to the ill fated Losman pick.
Marshawn Lynch thought Buffalo was boring and hit a woman while driving so he wanted out of here.
Cant recall why the Bills let McGahee go but overall during the drought they had 11 terrible picks and 6 good ones. 2 RBs, 2 DBs, 1 WR, and a Center. They reupped two of them , 2 couldn’t wait to get out of here, 2 became the highest paid player at his position (Clements), and 1 I don’t recall.
So yes the Bills drought did last so long because they drafted terrible and B. Couldn’t find a QB

Ezeiruaku has barely been mentioned on here. Intriguing prospect though. 16.5 sacks, 21 TFL, 3 FF last year
his size isn't ideal....but he has 34 inch armsGetting Collins would be a home run
Ezeiruaku is super underrated on this board. He doesn’t have a jet like first step because, imo after watching a lot of his tape , he watches to see what the OT is doing before he decides which one of his many developed pass rush moves he’s going to use.
He’s light but he was fine as a run defender in college and at the senior bowl. Pearce is the same weight, 3 pounds lighter than Mike Green and 2 inch longer arms, 9 pounds lighter than Nic Scourton. He’s not significantly smaller than the other DEs in his range.
He’s more of a tactician than a pure speed rusher and he’ll prob get swallowed up sometimes by 330 pound guys but so will the rest of the DEs in this class at times

So true, even in a year like the 2011 draft.
Just look at the top 6 picks: Cam Newton, Von Miller, Marcell Dareus, A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones. One of those is not like the others.
Yea even when this team has had high picks mostly in the past, the vast majority were good to bust players and more on the bust side. Reason why we didn’t make the playoffs for so long-

I think we’ll add some low end guys to fill out the 90 and compete. Maybe you get one more “name” signing for a bargain but I think they have turned the focus onto the draft and their 10 picks. I don’t think much changes in need with their signings
2 minutes ago, NewEra said:Doesn’t really matter what you want. We’ll see how it plays out, but I’d be shocked if we invest another decent pick/more cap at the position for 2025
Rapp, Bishop, Forrest and Hamlin is likely out S room this season
I think they will add a safety in the draft but it won’t be until the mid to late rounds to compete or go on the PS for a year-

Just because you draft high doesn’t guarantee you a blue chipper elite player. We had the 9th pick and got Ed Oliver who has been solid, was seen as a blue chipper but didn’t. We traded up to get a monster LB who was young in Edmunds who a lot of people would turn into an elite player and it never materialized.

Beane also stated in his presser that he stuck with Ogunjobi because the DT market had thinned out a lot after they agreed so I wouldn’t expect much if they do move forward in signing him

He’s young, maybe they think he could improve but he’ll probably he battling Zion Logue and others for maybe the last DT spot and maybe he locks in a job for 6 weeks

I have been there a couple of times. My first visit, Walter Payton just happened to be there and I was a young kid who didn’t realize who he was at the time.
Took a couple of minutes to talk to my grandparents, shook my hand, and talked to me for a minute. Still remember the interaction. When he passed he was one of the few celebrities I felt sorry for because of how nice he was to take the time out for my family.
I went there as well as an adult when the Bills were in the hall of fame game

Just watched Deone Walker vs. Georgia and he is big. I don't think that he is the power player that you would guess based on his height and weight. The Georgia OGs pushed him around some. He has mass, but not much of it is in his lower-half which is where most power comes from and he is so tall that blockers often can get leverage on him. I saw some plays where he had success using his long-arms to keep blockers away from his body, but I don't think that was very often. He also did block a pass at the LOS - his height and arm length can be useful for clogging passing lanes.
To be clear, I consider myself a fan, not a draft expert though I have followed the draft obsessively since the mid-80s.
Thoughts/opinions on Walker? To me, he isn't what the Bills' need, but certainly I could be wrong.
Not a fan in stay away territory tbh-

Jihaad Campbell had a torn labrum and just had surgery for it. Wonder if this will affect his stock any.

Eagles have Carter and Davis which is a huge reason why their DL destroyed KC
Their not going to take two 1Techs back to back. They will take a DT and then they will trade up for a CB or vice versa.

I’d say it’s more likely that the Bills stay put at 30, then move up from 56 with the capital they have in the midrounds.

It’s interesting because Milanos contract was very cuttable after this season. Wouldn’t have been so much this offseason.
Doesn’t make sense from Milanos side unless he has told the Bills this will be his last year playing and he is helping out the Bills salary cap now and in the future.
We have Williams waiting in the wings but now we’re gonna need someone for serious depth
-
Bills apparently met with Landon Jackson again before his pro day. Seems the Bills have met with him numerous times. Killed the combine, tape is good not great, feel we need someone with more bend but the Bills are seriously considering him for sure

The athletic put out a new big board this morning and they have Hairston at 38.
they have. Ezeiruarku at 30 fwiw
Im not against DL at 30 whether interior or outside but just looking at the roster and the depth of the draft it makes way more sense to go Corner at 30 and DL at 62. Now it’ll there is someone that fell that is just so much higher on the board than okay. I’m an Ezeiruaku fan more than a lot on this board but it’s swaying away from him
It’s time for a generational talent, blue chipper

I agree more picks will make it as well on the surface their aren’t many spots but the Bills could add competition at a lot of spots and practice squads.
I think RB, WR, TE, OG, P could all use a selection either for need, competition, or future depth.
We def need at least 1 DE, 1 DT, 1 LB, 1 CB That’s 9 picks right there. Could honestly take another DE, DT, and CB without batting an eye plus comp for Hamlin/Forrest. To me getting to 10 rookies being drafted isn’t that hard. Will all of them make it maybe not but could I see them using 9 I sure can
