  1. The NFL and AFL had their first common draft in 1967, making this year the 42nd draft in modern professional football history. Jake Long becomes the third offensive lineman selected with the first pick, joining Orlando Pace and Ron Yary (HOF). Each made 7 Pro Bowls. Fifteen lineman have now been drafted first overall, with twelve of them being defensive players. Exactly two-thirds of the number one draft picks have been offensive players. Long becomes the eighth player from the Big 10 to be drafted first overall, joining Courtney Brown, Pace, Ki-Jana Carter, Dan Wilkinson, Jeff George, Tom Cousineau and Bubba Smith. Long becomes the first Michigan Wolverine ever selected with the number one overall pick. Long becomes the 37th first draft pick selected from a current BCS school. Alex Smith (Utah), David Carr (Fresno State), Ed "Too Tall" Jones (Tennessee State), John Matuszak (Tampa) and and Terry Bradshaw (Louisiana Tech) were all drafted from current non-BCS schools or non-Division 1 schools (Jones, Matuszak). Long joins Bubba Smith and Orlando Pace in a tie for the third tallest player ever picked first overall. Ed "Too Tall" Jones was the tallest first pick ever at 6'9, and John Matuszak ranks second at six feet, eight inches. Ki-Jana Carter, 5'10, was the shortest top selection ever. Long is also the third heaviest player ever (315 lbs) drafted first overall, behind Dan Wilkinson (335) and Orlando Pace (325). Irving Fryar was the lightest first pick, weighing just 200 pounds. Long is also the first native Michigander selected at the top of the draft. Washington, Texas and Ohio have each had four top picks, while California leads the country with six sons selected first (Palmer, Aikman, Keyshawn Johnson, Plunkett, David Carr and O.J. Simpson). Long is the tenth oldest player selected first overall. Billy Simms was the oldest, as he turned 25 in September of his rookie season. Mike Vick was the youngest, and both he and Alex Smith were just 20 years old when drafted.
  2. I'm with you ajzepp. I feel it is my duty as a Bills fan to man my position on the coach until The Bills make their final selection. When it's over, I generally feel disorientated, sore from being stationary for two days, lethargic, and either extremely excited or depressed about who the Bills had chosen.
  3. Only if it has 3 white defensive ends.
  4. The draft is like my Birthday and Christmas rolled into one one!
  5. He's no Jordy Nelson.
  6. Will they have plenty of flat screens set up around their establishment to watch the NFL draft?
  7. If you disagree with me in regards to Mendenhall and Stewart, that's your choice. But to say McFadden is like Adrian Peterson last year shows from the onset, that you have no credibility in even discussing Rb's. Adrian Peterson is a once a decade combination of power and speed. He has legitimate Hall of Fame potential. McFadden has speed and explosiveness, but he is not shifty or powerful. He is built more like a WR than a traditional RB . The weakest part of his game is leg drive, which IMHO will keep him from being a 3OO carry bell cow back in the NFL.(which I think BOTH Stewart and Mendenhall will be). Throw in questions about this guys character and to me he is a risky pick. Certainly McFadden will show flashes of excellence with his speed, but IMHO he will need to be complemented with a power back in a committee in the NFL. Your dismissal of Stewart and Mendenhall as just workout warriors is completely off the mark, and I'm counting on others ignorance to scoop them up in all my fantasy football drafts. They are both at least as talented as Marshawn Lynch. If they are put on better teams than Lynch as rookies(which is likely) and shoulder the load, they both could have extremely productive seasons. McFadden in the same class with Adrian Peterson? I'm still having a hard time believing ANYONE could make such a statement.
  8. First instruction: lose the caps
  9. Why did you have to interrupt them? Just shut off the lights, leave the room, and leave them be.
  10. Poz was drafted in the 2nd round. The 34rth pick.
  11. Nice article on the quality and depth in this particular draft. Link
  12. Willis,Poz, Revis, Lynch,Okoye and Leon Hall.
  13. This thread is just begging to rick roll somebody. Beware.
  14. I think that means Desean Jackson will be going to the Rams with the second pick!
  15. Yeah, he still lives on Lebrun Road. His son is finishing up his senior year at St. Joe's. Hmm....were you worried you saw a ghoul?
  16. My draft books, rankings, etc. will be hurled at the TV!! It won't be the first time......
  17. Dude: Yeah, his 0 sacks and 0 interceptions sure turned around alot of games for USC last year.
  18. Also, on Allens behalf, was Kansas City ever ahead in any game? Many cheaps sacks can be attributed to defensive ends playing teams that are forced to pass on just about every down, because they are behind by so much. Allen certainly didn't have much of a chance for those cheap sacks playing for KC.
  19. A few predictions just to get started: 1. Malcom Kelly will be available for The Bills pick in the second round, The Bills will take a pass. 2. Owen Schmitt will not be taken before the 6th round. 3. The Bills will not take Keith Rivers, even if he is on the board when we pick. 4. Rivers will drop out of the top 10. 5. McFadden will drop in this draft. 6 .Mendenhall and Stewart will both have better careers than McFadden in the NFL. Both will be in the top 10-15 backs in the league at this time next year.
  20. This Rivers talk is driving me nuts!! Posters keep on saying that he can replace Crowell. Like Crowell is some type of weak link on this team. Who cares if he is a free agent next year? Here's a novel idea, sign him to an extension! Crowell had a very good year last year. He was easily one of the best defensive players on our team. He was voted a defensive captain, led the team in tackles and became the only NFL linebacker in 2007 with a safety, sack, interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery. He is in the prime of his career.....HE IS NOT A WEAK LINK ON THIS TEAM AND DOES NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED! We have other starters that are weaker links than Crowell. WR,TE,C,OG,DE,FS,FB,CB. What part of this is hard to comprehend? Keith Rivers forte is being a coverage linebacker. Picking at number #11 IMHO is no time to take a coverage linebacker. If this kid was a dynamic rusher from the linebacker position I'd be excited. He is NOT a pass rushing linebacker or for that matter a dynamic playmaker. He had 0 sacks and also had 0 interceptions last year. Time to end the nonsense.
  21. From every source I've seen the choice is down to Long or Dorsey. Though to be honest, trading down is the most likely scenario IMHO.
  22. Agreed they did. As much as it would stink to give up a player of Allens caliber, it seems like a good trade. Kansas City lost there last 9 games last year and should be in full scale rebuilding mode. They are in need of a major talent infusion. These extra choices will give them a ton of flexibility in the draft this year.
